super vulgar. doesnt get a lot of sleep at night (for multiple reasons) and just always looks and sounds tired. He has a lot of nasty habits (smoking, nail biting, over drinking, side note- hes a very emotional drunk and cries a lot). brett has a lot of one night stands and regrets most of them, not because they were bad, but mostly because at the end of the day, he's still alone and craving the attention he wanted in the first place. after the death of his husband, he's been extremely anxious and overprotective of his daughter, even more so than when his husband was alive. he's also the sorta guy who keeps dirty magazines under his bed and prays that no one finds them. aside from being depressed & lonely as Fuck, he has a good sense of humor and makes way too many dad jokes, to the point where friends and co-workers actively tell him to stop. he's also lazy and likes to just sit around watching monster shows and bad romcoms.

backstory (WIP)

brett was the third and final child born to william renaud and olivia hall, with twins valerie and edward born 3 years before him. he had a fairly normal childhood but once he had reached high school, things went downhill for him. he became reckless and wild and started to hang around with 'the wrong crowd' (meanwhile he still is friends with a few of the people now) at age 16 he started to smoke and at 17, joined a gang and while most of the things he did were fairly tame, he nearly landed himself in jail for almost killing someone. during an incident he lost most of his right hand pinky finger which is when he decided to leave the gang two years later.
brett graduated high school and eventually went to college as a business major but dropped out two years later. at age 19 he got himself a job at a local bar where he still works as a bartender. while working one night he met a man who he later started dating and because he was still young and naive, made too rash of a decision and decided to propose a little over a month later, this didnt last long and the two eventually broke off. around this time he came out as gay to his family who didnt take it all too well, his father was the least accepting and kicked him out of their house. afterwards, he moved in with two members of his old gang, giacomo and morris. at this point in time, brett was in a bad place and began to use alcohol and sex as a way to clear his mind.
his father passed away from cancer a year later when brett was 22 and at that time, he had just moved out of his roommates' house and into his own apartment and adopted a dog, riley, and life seemed pretty stagnant. during a work shift he met louis, who was mourning the death of his mother who had recently passed. having had lost his father not long ago, he was able to bring comfort to him and after sleeping together on the first night (classic brett) they began to date eventually moved in together, getting married two years later. another year later, the two adopted a daughter together and things seemed pretty good for those few years and brett was actually genuinely happy.
when brett was 28 louis had passed away in a motorcycle accident on his way home from work one night after a side-impact collision from another car, the driver of which was heavily drunk. after his husband's death, brett's depression returned and he went back to sleeping around and et cetera to keep his mind off things. now he is a single father to his daughter who just wants to provide the best for her
