Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Medium-length black hair with slightly longer bangs on right side
  • Green eyes
  • Light brown skin
  • Very tall in height
  • Physically fit with a very strong and muscled build
  • 3 piercings per ear
  • Tattoo under left eye that represents his family mark
  • Tattoo under right eye that is the Equistic symbol meaning "resolve"
  • Tattoo on right wrist of bow and arrow symbol
  • Tattoo of a raven with wings spread across his chest
  • Tattoo on his back (undetermined design as of now)
  • Small rhombus-like patch of skin on chest (between raven tattoo's head and right wing) that resembles purple and green stained glass
  • Black horse tail with green beads strung through some of the strands

In his usual centaur form, he easily stands 9 feet tall with his horse half being that of a pure black Friesian. His body is very strong and large, yet he is also very agile and swift. He can also take on a pure-horse form and a humanoid form. He greatly prefers his normal centaur form though, but he would choose his horse form over his humanoid form any day. He stands about 6'10" in his human form, but he has a lot of trouble balancing on two feet and doesn't like the feeling of having a smaller body and having a rearranged internal structure.

Clothing Style

Gage tends to wear the same small handful of outfits and doesn't feel the need to expand his wardrobe since he's quite often on the move. His most common outfit as a centaur consists of a long sleeved green shirt with a longer extension around the waist attached by a belt. He wears leather armor under the shirt and leather shoulderpads, elbow guards, a neck guard, and numerous belts across his chest. He also has leather belts just above each of his four ankles. Across his back on his horse half he has a blanket like pseudo-saddle of sorts that is strapped around his abdomen and holds his satchels. He didn't used to wear it until Xel complained about his back being too uncomfortable. He also wears fingerless gloves with gauntlets over them. He also has some green beads strung through strands of his tail, which is something his mother used to do and now he just maintains them.

In his human form he wears green pants with leather straps around his right leg, along with knee-length brown and black riding boots (don't ask why, it's not like he's the one riding anything). However, whatever form he may be in he always wears his green headband and a black feather hair accessory. The feather has a green clip at the top and green beads are attached around the middle shaft (but not actually strung through it since that doesn't make any dang sense). His earrings are either silver or jade most often. In general, Gage doesn't like to leave his upper body exposed and always tends to cover up with a long-sleeved shirt unless he's bathing. It's likely that he doesn't like for anyone to see his tattoos, since they are very personal to him.

Personality

Gage is a rather grumpy and solemn centaur who prefers to keep to himself. He can be rather anti-social at times, although he's perfectly capable of interacting confidently around others when needed. He has a rather cynical and skeptical view of everything, and he tends to speak either very bluntly or with biting sarcasm regardless if he's fond of the person he's talking to or not. His rough personality can make it difficult to approach and get along with him at times, but he is a very honest and down to earth man who can be a reliable ally as long as you give him no reason to dislike you. He comes off as rather quiet most of the time and rarely initiates conversation without reason, and even when others talk to him there's no guarantee that he'll even respond. His responses tend to be guarded or somewhat harsh even when he's not purposely being aggressive or defensive, and he's not easy to get to know unless you have rather thick skin and a lot of persistence.

Due to the amount of enemies he has and the training while growing up in his tribe, Gage is always very wary of his surrounding and almost always seems a little tense even if he doesn't seemed to be stressed. He comes off as cool headed and calm when in peaceful situations, but he never fully lets his guard down even when alone or with others that he trusts. His senses are very heightened which allow him to notice things most people wouldn't, and it is rather difficult to catch him off guard (even when Xel is rambling and making a racket). Gage is definitely jaded when it comes to interacting with others due to many past friendships having ended in betrayal, particularly his long term relationship with his first love that ended with her stabbing him in the back (figuratively and literally). He does not trust easily anymore, and while he is capable of putting his trust in certain people, he very rarely opens up to them about anything in his life. To most he can be somewhat of a mystery since he doesn't reveal much about himself to just anyone, and he isn't interested in making himself emotionally vulnerable anymore. He also tends to bottle up his emotions, aside from his anger since he is rather hot tempered and can be easily annoyed. He's not very sensitive toward others in general, but he's certainly not sensitive when irritated and has no issues expressing his brutally honest opinions toward those he holds no interest or respect for. Gage also has a rather vindictive nature due to how many times he's been burned in the past, and those who provoke his wrath should expect no forgiveness.

Backstory

Gage grew up in the Dyveil tribe of centaurs in Arkabor, Onakaiya as the son of the chieftain. He was well trained in combat and archery by his father and their family friend, Trevor, whom he considered his mentor and uncle. At the age of 12, Gage was taken from his tribe by the Enlightened, but he managed to escape when they stopped at Doobutsu Tenshi. However, he was severely injured and on the verge of dying until the Spirit Anima's host came across him. He made Gage swear to keep his secret to save his life, which Gage swore, and the Spirit Anima's host whispered his name to Gage to spiritually connect them to hold Gage's soul to his body long enough to heal his wounds. The host then told him his name was the secret, and Gage promised not to tell anyone. He then brought Gage to the capital so officials could arrange him transportation back home.

However, after returning to his tribe, Enlightened missionaries incessantly attacked their village to get Gage to reveal the Spirit Anima's host's name. His tribe eventually grew angry and demanded the chieftain give up Gage to end the attacks. The chieftain refused, and a civil battle ensued in which Gage's mother was killed by an arrow directed at him. Gage's father ordered Trevor to take Gage to safety as he remained behind with his loyal tribesmen to keep them from following. Gage's mentor took him to Onakaiya's Warp Gate, opened it to Emdrica, and told him to find De Jack Zilvas before dying of wounds sustained during the battle.

Gage was taken in by Jack until he could travel on his own. Gage trained alone to hone his skills while avoiding Enlightened missionaries still on the hunt. Through the years, he's encountered many false friends that betrayed him to the Enlightened, so Gage's trust in others has almost been completely destroyed. This changes when he meets an odd Dalindran by the name of Xelhalae Kalsel, and over the years Gage has been traveling on and off with Xel since they both have become targets for the Enlightened.

Trivia:

  • Gage's first name was taken from looking through some old yearbooks of mine and picking out some cool sounding names from my grade. There was a boy named Gage from another class, but my Gage doesn't have anything in common with or look even remotely similar to the real person as far as I know, since I didn't really know him.
  • Due to strange circumstances following Xelha's death, Gage somehow has Xelha's soul effectively a part of him now since a soul shard of sorts holding her soul has phased into his chest. It's where the stained glass-like marking on his chest is.
    • Xel's life is now tied to Gage's, basically making Gage Xel's new alter. Gage finds this rather concerning, but Xel doesn't really seem to care that much.
  • Gage is not fond of most modern societies in general, considering he was born and raised in the forest, so he's not a fan of crowded streets/buildings and technology.
    • Although he can handle them both at a basic level just fine, he prefers to avoid it and just keep to a solitary life when possible.
  • In general, he prefers things to be simple and doesn't like having unnecessary luxuries, but his life tends to be far more complicated than he would like.
  • Gage's relationship with Xel has allowed him to hold onto some of the gentle and down to earth tendencies he used to have in his youth. Although he speaks to Xel rather roughly and treats him as an annoyance quite often, he does care very much for the Dalindran and considers him to be an obnoxious little brother who won't leave him alone.
    • His harsh personality mellows out quite a bit around Xel, and although he's still rather grumpy and snippy with him, he is far more tolerant of Xel's annoying behavior, mostly because he finds it amusing at times.
    • The two get into a lot of arguments and back-and-forths with each other, yet they are rarely serious in nature. They can get rather intense and aggressive depending on the topic, although it usually involves one or the other's safety.
    • Gage is viciously protective of Xel and will not forgive anyone that threatens him, and he gets worked up easily when Xel takes unnecessary risks or does something drastic to protect Gage instead.
    • Although he holds up a rough and seemingly unbreakable exterior around everyone, Xel can sometimes bring out his sensitive side where Gage is unusually emotional and open about himself.
  • Despite the fact he prefers to be alone, Gage acknowledges he tends to let his feelings eat away at him more when he has time to himself to really think about it. Repeated loss and betrayal in his past has brought on lingering depression that only seems to visibly affect him if he allows himself to stray from any tasks that require his attention.
    • He tends to keep himself busy to maintain focus, since thinking too hard about his experiences has led him toward completely giving up on everything before.
    • Although he expresses annoyance with Xel's near-constant company, he is grateful to have a persistent distraction from such thoughts, since Xel has more recently given him a reason to keep going. As long as that annoying pest is still around, then Gage will refuse to give up his life so long as he can do something to protect the only person he can consider family anymore.
    • After Xelha's soul gets merged with him, he basically sets aside the option of giving up his life entirely, since his life is tied with Xel's.
  • Like one would likely expect from a horse, Gage enjoys running and having open space to run around, which is why he's not terribly fond of busy cities or crowded/narrow streets.
  • His phobia of heights has to do with the incident he was kidnapped by the Enlightened as a child. Prior to that incident, he'd always kept himself pretty firmly on the ground since Arkabor has relatively flat terrain. Being taken by these foreigners with strange technology and getting whisked away in one of their flying ships was very traumatizing for him, and he always associates heights with this negative experience.
  • Doesn't follow orders very well and prefers to do things on his own. He can take directions or do tasks for other people if he respects them or if he could benefit from it, but otherwise he'll only do something if he wants to.
  • The bow he uses belonged to Trevor, which was left to him after Trevor died. He always takes very good care of it and hates when other people touch it.
    • The only exception is Xel, who knows how much Gage values it and always makes a point to be careful with it if he ever needs to handle it.
  • He doesn't have claustrophobia, but he doesn't like being in enclosed spaces. As mentioned before, he likes having plenty of space to move around, especially since he's rather large, so enclosed spaces can get him irritated very easily.
    • He also doesn't like the feeling of being stuck in place or being restrained. He prefers to feel like he has full range of motion at any given moment, both because he doesn't like being touched much but also because he's a little paranoid and prefers to feel open to react to any changing conditions or threats.
    • He never liked enclosed spaces much to begin with, but being captured and imprisoned by the Enlightened for several months certainly didn't help either.
  • He also doesn't like vehicles much, even ones that are big enough to probably transport him. He prefers to go places on his own hooves, and although he doesn't get motion sickness, he doesn't feel comfortable when he's in moving vehicles or moving surfaces.
  • His favorite color is green.
  • The feather he wears in his hair was given to him by his mother, so it is very dear to him.
  • Fond of ravens since they remind him of his mother, both because of her name and also because they tended to flock around her.
  • When nervous or anxious, he tends to pace if he has the space for it. Otherwise he might just prod at the ground with his hooves.
  • Referred to as "Glompable Gage" by a blonde chick that falls from the sky, but despite the name you should never attempt it.
    • He's not entirely sure where the blonde chick who falls from the sky comes from (other than the sky, obviously) or why she has a habit or stalking/glomping him, but he's beyond caring at this point.
  • Old Charahub blurb: "The only remaining member of his tribe, he dedicates his life to keeping a secret that saved his life."
