"I'm Sorry... I Wanted To Help..."

Name: Sumiye Kuno

Age: 20

Height: 5’6”

Weight: 117 lbs

Talent: Ultimate Psychiatrist

Appearence

Sumiye has a very round face accompanied by small eyes which are an ash color much like her natural hair color. Her abundance of teal-green hair is tied in four low ponytails. Her hair reaches to the strap of her lab coat. Sumiye has very light skin which seems to be always blushing on her cheeks. Not to mention, her features all come together to seem very welcoming and friendly. She is almost always smiling.

Sumiye wears a long black dress that reaches her knees, it’s very sleek and  professional. Over her dress is an open white lab coat which reaches down to her knees, it can close with a long green strap but she hardly ever closes it. She wears a ribbon around her chest ending in a Silver Flower (a metal flower pin) which is a symbol of her parent’s “empire”. She wears black flats along with a black headband tied in her hair.

She hardly ever wears her hair down, only doing it for when she's sleeping or for an important event. She also has other dresses but she likes simplistic clothes, usually going for easy to look at. Sumiye hates super detailed clothes, she just doesn't care for fashion that much.

Personality

Sumiye is a straight-forward girl, being rather open about her job and even her past regarding Hope's Peak Elemntary. Her manipulative nature may seem to contradict this but Sumiye knows that her lying abilities only get stronger when sprinkling truth within. Even if she is easily manipulated herself. She's incredibly gifted at social situations because of her understanding and composed nature, allowing others to easily trust her. But it doesn't come from nowhere, Sumiye had trained for years to be the people person that she is.

Regarding her family, Sumiye is very loyal and naive- Having following her parents orders since she was born. She's quite silent and sweet around her family- being professional at her home life, too. The only one of her family who she doesn't believe to be someon to act professional around is her brother who she spent her childhood around and gained a rather motherly love for her before he eventually began to despise her due to Sumiye's natural talent. Sumiye continues to be guiltridden from her failure. Due to this, she is easily fooled into developing vigilantic morals but Junko.

Bio

Sumiye was born into a family of two Ultimates- the Ultimate Orator and the Ultimate Entrepreneur- and immediately was thrust into many different types of test to try and figure out a talent- being quite successful at ones involving social interaction- due to her parents wanting her child(ren) to become Ultimates like themselves. Once she was five, her little brother was born and he, too, was given multiples classes and tests to try to find his talent early on in life. Sumiye was soon after put into “Hope’s Peak Elementary: A Hope’s Peak Branch of Schooling.” This school was divided into eight different sections (groups where kids would be split up based on their interests and then would be taught extensively to try and extract any talent from them). However, after each grade level, a kid could be moved to a different group based off changing interests, lack of talent, or natural talent in another section. The sections were Lil Ultimate Music, Lil Ultimate Drama, Lil Ultimate Art, Lil Ultimate Math, Lil Ultimate PE, Lil Ultimate Social Studies, and Lil Ultimate Homeroom. Kids who liked/were naturally talented at singing and/or playing instruments were put in Lil Ultimate Music. Kids who liked/were naturally talented at stagecraft and/or acting were put in Lil Ultimate Drama. Kids who liked/were naturally talented at math and/or science were put in Lil Ultimate Math. Kids who liked/were naturally talented at sports were put in Lil Ultimate PE. Kids who liked/were naturally talented at history and/or the way people interacted were put into Lil Ultimate Social Studies. And kids who excelled at talents in two or more sections were put into Lil Ultimate Homeroom. Now, Hope’s Peak Elementary gave many opportunities and a much larger chance to become an Ultimate in the future, so the price of getting in was not cheap. And who were the people who usually had money? The previously graduated Ultimates. Meaning the Ultimates would graduate, stick their kids into Hope’s Peak Elementary to force talent from them, and then their children were Ultimates themselves. The vicious cycle continued and continued for generations, really. A child of an Ultimate (or two) were assumed to become Ultimates themselves. The only problem was when two kids had the same talent. Two or more children with the same general talent had two options of what could happen to them. Either two specialized talents would be ripped from their general talent, say two children are both going after the talent of ‘dancer’. But then, it turns out they’re each best at the specialization of dancing like one is good at ballet, the other at ballroom dancing. One would become the Ultimate Ballet Dancer, while the other would be the Ultimate Ballroom Dancer. The other outcome was much more unfortunate. Some talents had no specifications to boil down into. Which means that the kids competing for a talent would become rivals, trying their best to become the Ultimate and get more opportunities and public attention than the other. Only one child would grow up to be qualified for the Ultimate title. But then again, sometimes the title was stolen away from the two or more kids who were fighting for one talent by some non-Hope’s Peak Elementary attender. Though cases like that were rare due to the ton of publicity which surrounded kids from Hope’s Peak Elementary just because of their shiny Lil Ultimate titles. While Sumiye never had a competitor in Hope’s Peak Elementary for her talent (at least- not one that could compare to her), her brother Noritaka was a different story. He went head to head with another boy for the title of Ultimate Boxer. Noritaka’s school life was nothing but hard work- If he wasn’t an Ultimate, their parents would be so disappointed. He began to get bitter and hated Sumiye, who was heartbroken at this. She loved her brother due to their childhood together when their parents were usually away- Though Noritaka didn’t recall those memories as well as Sumiye did. It was horrible for her to see him constantly struggle to be better than his rival, Tomiko.

Sumiye graduated Hope’s Peak Elementary with a lot of friends but only a few followed her to Hope’s Peak Academy and she had to leave most of them behind as her Ultimate Psychiatrist talent had been accepted into Hope’s Peak Academy (though, no one was surprised). Over the course of her time at Hope’s Peak Elementary, she had gotten quite a name for herself by being insanely good at reading people, being patient, and being understanding while offering good solutions to problems. In Hope’s Peak Academy, Sumiye made quite a lot of friends and was known as the “motherly friend” despite hardly actually caring about any of them. Her professional regime made her distant yet close at the same time and Sumiye had a hard time getting attached to people.

After entering the school, Sumiye got a part-time job at Hope’s Peak Academy as they were looking to hire her as their counselor (along with her potentially doing side jobs elsewhere). Sumiye was sweet, kind, and smart- A perfect friend and student. But that was only at school. At home, she was a wreck. Her parents lived rather close to the school so she hadn’t got a dorm at Hope’s Peak Academy. This led to massive regret. While she hadn’t been very close to her parents due to how busy they were, she’d gotten very close to Noritaka and was very upset when he stopped talking to her. Sumiye would even make dinner but Noritaka wouldn’t eat it. She hated that she made him so angry and wanted to make it better.

On the night that Noritaka would be going head-to-head against Tomiko for the last time to see who would be going to Hope’s Peak Academy, Sumiye tampered with Tomiko’s achievements- so even if Noritaka lost, he would be more qualified to be the Ultimate Boxer. Hopefully. After all, it would’ve just been a bad day for Noritaka and he could win again on a good day. Little did Sumiye know, Noritaka had also sabotaged his rival. Tomiko had shown up tired to the match because Noritaka had spiked Tomiko’s drink the night before. Noritaka won the match but was met with controversy, especially once he got his title that night. Tomiko’s “fans” believed Noritaka shouldn’t have won- They spread rumors, being sure that Sumiye had pulled some strings at Hope’s Peak Academy and made sure her brother got accepted into the school. Noritaka became a joke. He was known as the one who’d rode coattails to the Ultimate Boxer position, known as “Ms. Kuno/Sumiye’s Brother.” Noritaka hated Sumiye even more and she started to hate herself, knowing that she shouldn’t have doubted her brother like she had.

Sumiye graduated Hope’s Peak in a cloud of despair. Her brother really wanted nothing to do with her. The year she became employed by Hope’s Peak Academy as the counselor and a part-time teacher for those with the Lil Ultimate Social Studies talents (like she had had). At first, her job was simple but because she was a trusted employee, raised by Hope’s Peak itself it seemed, she was allowed to have access to Hope’s Peak’s databases and with that… All their secrets. One of the largest secrets being the “Izuru Kamakura Project”. Along with the Ultimate Neurologist Matsuda, Sumiye was trusted to look over and take care of Hajime Hinata throughout the time of his surgery (though he was almost never conscious while she was there- and when he was, he was dazed and confused). Sumiye made reports on the “Izuru Kamakura Project” and was the one to replace Hajime’s IV, food, pain medication, etc. She felt uncomfortable with what was going on but the boy had agreed to surgery so it didn’t seem to be a problem.

That was, until Junko Enoshima started hanging around. She, at first, only spoke to Matsuda but then began making comments to Sumiye. In the beginning, they were just about Hajime- Things like how she missed her friend, Hajime and was sad he chose to do this but then… Junko knew. The comments were now more tailored to Sumiye- understanding her disgust with Hope’s Peak Academy, her underlying pressure to be perfect, her bad relationship with her brother, she knew it all. And Sumiye listened to what Junko said daily on her trips to visit Hajime and check on his progress. She began to hate Hope’s Peak completely. Hated what it had turned her life into, hated what it had done to Hajime and Noritaka. In the midst of this, Noritaka actually got a girlfriend named Kishi who seemed perfect in every way and stole all of Noritaka's time. He didn't come home anymore and so Sumiye moved out in sadness. Her old best friend and brother hated her and now had a girlfriend to make him hate Sumiye even more.

It was the day Sumiye was in an unpleasant mood. She walked into the lab without a word and began her daily check-up on Hajime. Junko was delighted. She told Sumiye that she trusted her enough to make Sumiye a part of the plan now- The plan to destroy Hope’s Peak. Sumiye, with her pleasant, welcoming features, agreed. At this point, she didn’t care about anyone else, Sumiye wanted her family back together. This sparked her vigilantic tendencies. The plan was simple- Junko was going to push the reserve students into a suicide to get the public in an uproar, and to save those poor children (though Sumiye looked down on them even if she didn’t mean to) from the grip of Hope’s Peak. Any reserve student who came to Sumiye’s office, contemplating suicide, would be agreed with by Sumiye that it was a good idea.

There were many who showed up and asked Sumiye for guidance on what to do. Every single one of them left her office convinced suicide was the only option. After the suicides and the Most Tragic Event in the History of Mankind, Sumiye did not become Ultimate Despair in the way that the others had. Junko had informed Sumiye that Noritaka had been killed in one of the riots, sending Sumiye into a plummeting despair where she left Hope’s Peak Academy and hid away in her parent’s old house, too upset to do much of anything. It was about a year later before Sumiye was found as a “survivor” and learned of the Future Foundation. She was taken in nearly starved and could hardly speak, given that the only time she ate was when she deliriously played house as if Noritaka and her parents were still there. After a week or so with the Future Foundation, she put on her same calm exterior again and pleasantly asked what was going on. Sumiye was explained the situation with Junko and even given a book of all the students who had been taken by Junko for killing games, Noritaka being one of them. Sumiye fell into despair again, destroyed that Junko had lied about her brother and had most likely killed him herself. Her vigilantic views kicked in and this time, Sumiye vowed that she would find and kill any followers of Junko, whilst under the disguise as just a normal survivor that the Future Foundation saved.
