Ara

Backstory

Ara was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. His parents, both Armenian immigrants who had low-income jobs and spoke little English. They spent a lot of time trying to make sure they had enough money to provide for Ara, but this often meant working long hours. Despite his parents busy schedules, Ara was still very close with both his parents. 

Growing up, Ara didn't have many friends. He had always been a quiet person who kept to himself. He took his his classes very seriously, and spent most of his time studying and as a result did very well in school. Ara had a special interest in sciences, which was eventually what led him to try to get into med school. During his final year of high school, he spent a lot of time applying for scholarships and eventually got accepted into a university out in Vancouver. After high school, he moved out to Vancouver, the first time he left his hometown. 

During Ara's first year of university, he discovered that he had telekinetic and telepathic abilities. Ara, who had always been way too concerned about fitting in and being "normal" decided it would be best if he kept his powers a secret. While he spent most of his time focussing on his studies, he began to wonder whether there was anyone else with such abilities. 

Ara eventually graduated from med school and went on to become an emergency room doctor. He had hoped to return to Montreal when he graduated, but when he got offered a position at a hospital in Vancouver he decided to accept. After a few years of living in Vancouver, Ara met Andor, who had the same abilities as Ara. Ara was now more determined than ever to find out more about their powers. He kept in touch with Andor, who eventually became one of Ara's closest friends. Andor agreed to help Ara, and to keep their abilities a secret. However, Ara quickly realized that Andor was beginning to resent him. Worried that Andor was going to break his promise and reveal their secret, Ara made him an offer: He would help pay Andor's rent as long as Andor kept their powers a secret. Since then, the two have continued trying to find an explanation for their mysterious powers but have so far had no luck. 

Personality

Ara is very cold and aloof. He is very independent and introverted. He prefers to be by himself rather than hanging out with others. Despite his reserved nature, Ara is also highly organized and a good critical thinker, which makes him a strong leader.

Ara is very intelligent; a fact that he likes to flaunt. As a result, he can come across as being arrogant and pretentious most of the time. Ara also prefers to lead rather than follow. He would much rather do his own thing as opposed to being told what to do. Despite this, Ara still has respect for authority figures. 

Relationships With Other Characters

Andor: Ara and Andor are opposites in almost every regard, but despite this the two are still fairly close. Due to their clashing personalities, they argue often and Ara sometimes cancels plans he made with Andor since he feels like he needs a break from Andor's boisterous personality. 

Random Facts

• English is Ara's 3rd language. Armenian and French are his first and second.
• Andor was actually the first to question Ara's sexuality. Even though he figured that Andor was right, he still denied being Aro/Ace for a really long time.
• His birthday is on Coffee Day, which is fitting since he loves coffee (this was actually done unintentionally)
• Despite coming across as being very serious and no-nonsense, he is actually known to be very sarcastic. 
• He hates the cold. 
• His full name is Arakel Raphael Azaryan. His middle name was only chosen so that his intials will spell out his name (or nickname, technically).
