Background
Thane is the invention of an wealthy French toymaker named Alfred Gaudier with a fascination in alchemy and robotics. Initially he had built the robot as an eternal vessel once his body gave out. Instead of his life being extended through his robot, the inventor's freed soul entered the designated hourglass-like core, providing sentience and life to the metal being instead of inhabiting it. The family found Thane next to the corpse of his inventor and feared him. Though a well-placed note from the man informed them of his attempts, the robot was still seen as an abomination who had stolen the man's life. The idea of selling him or locking him away was considered between members, but his build and the soul trapped inside him deterred them from doing so. Instead, he was raised to serve the family, brought up as a butler by the house staff. While the staff treated him fairly nicely, to the family he was more like a fancy toy to show off to guests. Through the years, as time ran out, the core would absorb the soul of his inventor's next of kin, unknowingly killing the individual in the process. Eventually, he came to realize what was happening and strove to prevent it from repeating. As members of his family continue gradually cycling out, the descendants are more kind to him than the ones before, giving him more of a reason to stop this "curse" from happening. Thane's outer chassis is composed of a white-painted titanium that is made to closely resemble polished porcelain. The black bits, i.e around his neck and waist, are made of matte silicone (previously rubber). His head looks much like a skeleton, and the holes on the sides of his face serves as vents to release steam. His voice is immensely deep, something that can often startle some individuals in addition to him looking like a skeleton. Even with the feature of being steam-powered, he is an odd case, where he is able to taste tea and consume it without the ingredients causing too much trouble in his boiler. It is assumed that his creator wanted to enjoy some human pleasantries within the chassis. He is consistently warm, save for the times he's feeling unwell. The smell he has is often whatever tea he has had earlier on in the day. He maintains himself well, always keenly dressed with neatly pressed clothes.Personality
Thane was brought up to be a butler and has been trained as such. He is tolerant with a calm temperament, and it is difficult to make him particularly angry. At times he does tend to get frustrated with his lot in life, occasionally harassed by ghosts who haven't been able to communicate with anyone else for years and years. He enjoys playing music in his down time as well as reading.Abilities
Through the decades, in an effort to better understand himself, he has found that his origins have given him a link to the spiritual world. He is able to see and communicate with ghosts. He is also able to consume ghosts in order to add to the soul sands that fill his hourglass core so that he can maintain his sentience. This is not something he enjoys doing, and it's easier on his conscience to absorb invasive or malicious spirits, rather than those of the innocent. Aside from that, he is skilled in playing the violin and cello, and is often happy to perform to those willing to listen, alive or otherwise. Thane is a character I would like to use more. He is often open to roleplay with, just shoot me a message. As with most of my OCs, they are more like templates, where they can be stretched and squashed, and their history can be thrown out the window to fit the storyline better if need be.
