✍️ Write based on the line prompt above

Posted 6 years, 9 months ago (Edited 5 years, 4 months ago) by Caine

This game is very similar to Respond to the prompt above you. In this game, however, the prompts are random lines, such as "What do you think you're doing?" and "Do you need help?" instead of questions or scenarios.
Your response should be in the form of short story / flash fiction!

How it works:

  1. Claim your post so you won't get ninja'd! It'd suck to lose all the writing you did just because someone wrote & posted faster than you!
  2. Edit your post and respond to the line given to you. You need to include the line in your story, but otherwise you have free hands to interpret it as you like. The response should be in the form of short story / flash fiction.
  3. At the end of your post, make sure to give the next person a line as well! Make sure the line is not too specific or restricting so the thread won't get stuck.

Rules:

  • Keep it PG13!
  • Use the spoiler function if your post is very long! It'll be easier for others to scroll down if they aren't met with a wall of text
  • Make sure to post IC so people will know which character you're using in the prompt & they can potentially check it out!
  • YOU CAN RESPOND AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE like you don't need to wait for a certain amount of people to reply until you're allowed to.
  • Honestly this thread is so dead that anarchy reigns and if you don't fill your claim it's not the end of the world, as long as you provide a line for the next user

Example:

Line: "What do we have here?"

Reply: "What do we have here?" the man asked with a repulsive smile on his face. He had tied Xavier up while he was unconscious, and was now pointing at him with a supposedly loaded gun - Xavier had no intentions to take a risk and believe the gun was fake. "Not so smart anymore, huh? Looks like foxes aren't all that clever after all!"

"I'm not a fox!" Xavier hissed.

"That should be the least of your concerns right now, given your current situation," the man laughed, but his gun was still pointing at the detective.

Here is a line for the first:

"I'm never going to do that again, I swear!"

Nico Tenebris crownines

"I'm never going to do that again, I swear!"

Nico's newest enemy screeched in terror, attempting to plead for mercy from her wrath. They had tried to steal from one of her new party-friends, and she had caught them in the act. Not wanting to let the guy go without some kind of punishment, she had dragged him outside and roughed him up a little. The guy seemed to confident when he was trying to steal, but he was a total coward in reality. Towering over the thief, Nico flashed him a playful smile before speaking with a voice filled with venom.

"If I even so much as hear that you tried something like that again, I will find you. Anywho, bored of you now. I have a party to go to," Nico hissed, before turning on her heel and leaving the guy to take care of himself.

The line for the next person: "Hey, what's that thing over there?"

teddiebearie

characters: Kazimir Yakubov / Rohan Rao / Winnie Song / Xeno Cho / Agnes Falk
posted OOC because there are multiple characters

"Hey, what's that thing over there?" Winnie asked, peeking over the hedge, a mischievous look in her eyes. A small, odd object was lying on the ground, just outside of the student academy grounds.

"Guys, we're gonna get caught..." Agnes warned, a worried look in her eyes. She was clutching her hands to her chest in worry, although there was no harsh punishment for leaving the academy grounds.

"Honestly, who cares? 'Cause I sure don't." Winnie pushed, clearly not worried about the outcome. Or, perhaps, that was why she was so keen; she wanted to see what would happen. She turned to Kazimir, Rohan and Xeno. "What do you guys think? Agnes is being a goody-two-shoes and isn't coming."

"I'm not!" Agnes lightly whined, her frown deepening and her voice rising in pitch. "I just don't want to get in trouble..."

"Okay, okay, calm down. You're not gonna tell on us, right? None of you are, right?" Winnie smirked, knowing she had won the argument. It didn't matter if Agnes came or not, it was perfectly fine so long as she didn't tell on them.

"No!" Agnes fliched, then breathed in. "I won't tell... but I won't come."

"That's fine." Winnie grinned, although it looked rather sinister, causing Agnes' face to twist into panic and then a grimace and then her earlier worried state. Winnie blinked, not used to that sort of reaction. Usually, Agnes woud blush when she did so.

"Why, of course!" Kazimir exclaimed, giggling in a way only he could pull off. "I'll come."

"Greaty-ho!" Winnie's grin turned into a smirk as she averted her attention to Kazimir, then to Rohan and Xeno. "You guys?"

"Not interested. You guys can do what you want." Rohan shrugged, a disinterested look on his face. "It's not that interesting anyway."

"Don't involve me in this. You're on your own." Xeno had a mix of a tired and disgusted facial expression, which dissapeared when he yawned.

Winnie resisted the urge to deadpan and instead frowned, all while keeping her smirk on her face. "Okay, sure. Whatever," with that, she turned her attention to Kazimir. "Let's go?"

"Of course, after you," he giggled, raising his hand over his mouth. "M'lady."

"I'm taken, you dumbass." Winnie retorted, but she laughed slightly anyway, hopping over the bush with Kazimir close in tow.

A silence overtook the rest of the group.

"Wait, who is she taken by?" Xeno asked, confusion evident in his tone.

There was another brief silence before Rohan answered, "Does she even know what romance is?"

"Good point." Xeno responded and turned to leave, Rohan joining him soon after while Agnes stared at where Winnie had been a few minutes ago. If one looked close enough, a small trace of longing could be found.

"I'm gone for three minutes... and this happens?"

Cyrus Bell Caine

"I'm gone for three minutes... and this happens?" Cyrus looked at the beaten up boys standing and sitting all around the hallway.

"It was Kayden's fault!" one of the boys yelled and pointed at another boy, but then flinched in pain.

"No it wasn't!" the other boy, Kayden, screamed back.

"I don't care whose fault it was!" was Cyrus' stern and somewhat loud reply. "All I did was to get more plasters and you all have gotten yourself beaten up even worse while I was gone."

He crossed his arms and with a pouting expression added: "Do you all hate me so much you want to give me even more trouble than you already give? I don't enjoy patching you idiots up day after day!" In actuality Cyrus very much enjoyed treating the wounds and bruises of others as he loved to be of help, but there was no way he'd let others know it straight. They'd just tease him about it and get even more reckless. Cyrus was doing all this on his free time, and at this point he was sure that in just a week he was already busier than the actual school nurse was in a month. All the boys came to him instead of going to the nurse's office.

"We're sorry," the other boys replied in unison, heads hanging low.

"Next time you fight while waiting for my treatment I'll make sure to treat you with a punch to the face! Got it?!"

"Yessir!"

Cyrus had to hide a smile when everyone responded to him like to an army general.

"Stop looking at me with the puppy eyes"

teddiebearie

characters: Rohan Rao / Yanio Chung / Winnie Song

"Stop looking at me with the puppy eyes, it's not going to work." Rohan stated, his face set in an unreadable deadpan. "I said no, Yanio."

"But!" Yanio begged, her eyes tearing up slightly. She had clasped her hands together and kept begging Rohan, despite the fact that she knew it was probably useless. "You don't understand how important this is!"

"Yanio, we are not going to sneak out after hours to see a horror movie just because it involves a hospital. Subject closed." Rohan responed, his tone set in the same deadpan as his face. "It's not happening."

"But!" this time, Yanio turned to Winnie, who had been watching in amusement. "Winnie, please!"

Winnie chuckled, obviously entretained. "Aww, c'mon, why not? She really wants to go, y'know."

"I'm not stupid, that's all. Unlike some people, I'm not into getting into trouble just for the lols." Rohan sighed, shaking his head and looking at the time. "It's time to go to class. We should go."

"Aww, c'mon! Really?" when Rohan didn't respond, Winnie turned to Yanio, who seemed to have pulled out her phone.

"Actually, I think we could watch it on a streaming site." Yanio replied and showed Winnie her phone, her tears long dried.

Winnie blinked at the screen before smiling widely, although it still looked slightly sinister. "Yeah! Kinda surprised that doesn't have a firewall but hell yeah! Let's watch it on Rohan's laptop though, just in case it downloads malware or somethin'."

"Is that really okay?" Yanio asked, pocketing her phone and grabbing her books from the table.

Winnie waved it off, closing her eyes and looking smug. "Yeah. Definitively. I'm sure he won't mind if it's you."

"Eh? Why not?" before Yanio could blink, Winnie had bolted out the door, her bag in her hands. How she was putting on her backpack and running at the same time was something that Yanio wasn't sure of. "Winnie?"

"Hurry up or be late for class!" Winnie shouted back, very clearly not hiding her amusement.

"Ahh! Wait for me!" and with that, Yanio bolted out of the library, shouting at Winnie to wait for her.

"Why... Why would you do such a terrible thing? Why would you eat my pizza?"

Nathan Pastel truelexblue

characters: nathan pastel and chris jensen

"Why... Why would you do such a terrible thing? Why would you eat my pizza?" Nathan asked as he turned to Chris. He observed the scene of the crime, it seemed as though Nathan looked high and low for the pizza slice he ate before he came home from work. But alas, his search was made in vain!  Nathan was tearing up a bit.

"Wait, that was yours?" Chris hesitated, worried for his boyfriend. "Sorry, babe, I didn't know."

"I was saving that slice for lunch today! Didn't I tell you that?" Nathan began to pout.

"Um, no, I don't think so. Or maybe I don't remember." Chris shuffled closer to him-

There was now a grin across his face.

"I was just playin' with ya!" Nathan giggled. He noticed the dumbfounded visage as he put his arms around him. "It's alright, I left that for you. I knew you would eat it."

"Hah. Thanks." Chris planted a small peck on his cheek.

"Anything for you, Chris!"

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disappoint you."

Riy Veilheart HeroofEnelios

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disappoint you."

The knight's hurt tone made Renne's chest ache as she watched him hang his head in shame before her. She wanted to say something to comfort him, but nothing came to mind that she felt would truly express her feelings. So instead she put both of her hands on his shoulder, prompting him to look at her with a puzzled look, before she pulled him close and tightly wrapped her arms around him.

"Don't ever say such things." She whispered in his ear, stunning him into silence. "You didn't disappoint me. If anything I'm proud of you."

"Why?" Riy said quietly, his puzzled look slowly turning to curiosity.  Renne's face was flushed and she felt the urge to let go, but instead only held tighter and kept going.

"You never had to do this, and yet despite all that's happened and all you've been put through for my sake, you never stopped fighting." Her words made Riy's expression soften, and the tiniest of smiles was forming.

"Renne..."

"Even though you're reckless, impulsive and don't always listen." The noble's next words stung a little, but Riy knew them to be true. He couldn't exactly disagree that he had a bad habit of rushing in. Renne paused to let go and step  away from the knight, glancing at him with a sweet smile. "That courage you have is amazing. I really love-" The princess seemed to realize what was coming out of her mouth because she stopped and swiftly turned away on her heel.

"You love what?" Riy boldly asked despite his own flushed cheeks. Renne didn't turn at this point and folded her hands behind her back as she hummed.

"That courage, and..." She paused again and flashed the boy a coy grin. "one other thing, but it's a secret." With those words she didn't give the knight a chance to respond before she started down the palace hall, a new noticeable spring in her step. Riy himself couldn't think of what to say in response, so he watched her leave with a sheepish smile as he wondered what the noble was going to say next, and it made his heart race.

"Why did you have to do that?"

Lewis O'Connor HowlingCat

Characters: Ronin and Lewis

"Why did you have to do that?"

Lewis exhaled and glance over to Ronin. The Lopunny was in the middle of wrapping his wounds when Ronin asked that question. That simple question came off as being complex when Ronin uttered that. Perhaps it was because of the fact Ronin questions are often the ones that actually took Lewis some time to think of a response from. In honesty, Lewis saw that as a bit of a talent that Ronin had.  His questions always seem to catch him off guard. However, Lewis was already prepared to answer this question. Twirling the drink in his paw, Lewis smiled at Ronin.

"I have no tolerance for those who continues to disregard following the rules," Lewis hummed.

'You threaten to eat that guy," Ronin frowned.

Lewis knew that Ronin certainly wasn't saying the Charmeleon that he scared off was a good guy. In fact, he was positive Ronin thought that guy was a jerk. The way he flirted with Ronin when the male clearly felt uncomfortable about it was simply disgusting. Well at least in Lewis' eyes and that was saying a lot. However, Lewis did know that Ronin did not approve of the way he scared off the fire lizard. I suppose stating that he would eat the lizard was a bit..overboard. Did that change that it still was funny as heck? Nope.

'Hey. At least he stopped flirting with you," Lewis huffed.  "At least give me credit for that."

Ronin simply huffed and looked away. His fingers dance along the surface of the water he was drinking. He muttered something softly. With his hearing, Lewis was able to make out the male's mutters being something along the lines of what he said to be true. He couldn't help but smirk at that. There was always something nice about Ronin admitting that Lewis was right about things.

"You were supposed to be watching him." (You are free to change him to whatever genders work~)

teddiebearie

Characters: Rohan Rao / Yanio Chung / Kyo Maeda / Kazimir Yakubov / Oxana Kozel / Albin Jez / Xeno Cho / Winnie Song / Karmen Zupan / Teddy Augentsein / Agnes Falk
posting OOC bc there's a lot of characters.

"You were supposed to be watching her." Rohan sighed, resisting the strong urge of smacking his palm against his face.

Winnie had suggested sneaking out after school was done and getting a job, which was completely against the academy rules. Rohan had, of course, objected to it, telling her it was a stupid idea and that she was going to get in trouble for it. Winnie had chosen to ignore him, or perhaps specifically go against his warning, because she had gone missing in the four minutes Rohan was gone.

"I was?" Yanio questioned, confused. She had been sure the one supposed to be watching Winnie was Kyo. "Wasn't that Kyo?"

"No," Kyo chuckled, smiling warmly. "If anything, it was Kazimir and you. Correct me if I'm wrong, though."

"You instructed all of us to watch her," Kazimir started, the amused expression never leaving his face. "But see, she's a tricky one. You could have the whole school watching her and she'd still escape your grasp."

"Um..." Oxana cut in, her voice quivering. "We turned away for one second and she was gone, so they were doing their jobs..."

"What they said." Yanio defended, making finger guns in their direction. "I was doing my job."

Just then, the doors to the library opened and in strolled Albin and Xeno, Teddy and Agnes trailing behind. Albin was chewing on some kind of hard candy, a smile plastered across his face. "Howdy." he greeted Rohan, whose eyes had narrowed at him.

"And why weren't you here?" Rohan asked, clearly not amused in the least. Could he really not go to the bathroom without Winnie dissapearing anymore? He wasn't worried about Winnie in the least, but they would definitively be objects of the teachers' wraths if they found her missing. He had no intention to get on his instructors' bad sides.

"I was getting some candy," Albin replied, the same grin on his face. "Why?"

Rohan's frown deepened, and Xeno opened his mouth, the same deadpan he always had on his face, "If you're going to strangle him, do it now before Karmen arrives. We won't tell on you."

Albin nearly choked on his candy, hitting his chest lightly in order not to suffocate. "What?" he asked once he regained his breath, eyes wide. "Aren't we friends?"

Rohan sighed, hearing the doors open again. "Too late. Stop wasting my time, Albin. Either you do as you're told or you leave."

Karmen walked in, their head held high. Their nose wrinkled in disgust upon seeing the group before turning to Oxana, a small face making it's way onto their face. "Hello. I was actually looking for you!"

"Ah, really?" Oxana smiled nervously at Karmen. She felt like the only one of her friends that actually liked them, despite the fact that Winnie and Xeno probably didn't have anything against them. She wanted to be friends with him, but at the same time she wanted to get along with her current friends, and she definitively didn't want to break any relationships or cause any grudges.

"Of course," Karmen replied nonchalantly, closing their eyes and smiling.

"When are they not?" Teddy mublmed quietly, to the point where only Agnes could hear him. She chose not to make a comment, but he had a good point. Karmen wanted to spend pretty much every second together with Oxana, who didn't see why this was a slight issue. Agnes trusted her friend, but she could only hope she wouldn't be tainted or broken by Karmen.

"Would you like to go to a cafe together? Get a coffee, talk, relax, the norm, you know?" Karmen continued, not having heard Teddy. Their eyes were still closed as they extented their hand in Oxana's direction.

"Um..." Oxana hesitated, glancing between Karmen and her friends. She and Kyo were the only ones to miss Karmen's slightly darker expression. Eventually, she decided one hour wouldn't hurt. "Uh, alright... but we have to be back by the closing time, alright?"

Karmen's expression instantly brightened as they grabbed hold of Oxana's hand and whisked her away towards the doors, smiling brightly. "That's completely fine!"

The door was slammed in their faces as they left. There was no doubt that it had been done on purpose, causing Xeno to sigh. Rohan's scowl deepended, if that was possible.

"Now," he started, turning to the rest of the students. "What about Winnie?"

"No, seriously, what?"

 Digi chiliechii_inactive

Characters: Digi, Hyou

"No, seriously, what?" Digi asked, rather firmly, as she looked over at Hyou.

The two were relaxing on the couch. Digi playing on her handheld gaming device as typical of her. Her attention mainly on her video game, it's easy for things to happen around her without her noticing when she's like that. But there are times when something catches her attention enough for her to pry herself away from her game. And this was one of those occasions.

Hyou's not sure what compelled him to say it. Perhaps it's because of stress, mid-terms are coming up and he's been falling behind in English. The constant hounding of a couple other classmates doesn't help either. Those things ontop of his frequent internal struggle of his feelings is putting a lot of tension on this teenager. So maybe he thought saying it....saying I love you would help the stress and strain lesson. It wasn't like she was really paying attention after all. He was already having a one sided conversation with her.

But oh boy was he wrong. And that immediate regret left him frozen with tension.

Digi furrowed her brows, lowering her game and repeated again "Seriously, what the hell did you just say??"

Not loosing face, Hyou slowly opened his mouth. His mind racing to come up with an excuse. "I...said.....kung..fu..."

"......kung fu?" An eyebrow of suspicion raises.

"...yea...kung fu. I was saying...we should watch a kung fu movie."

She stared at him, not really sure if she believed him or not. Sure, she wasn't really paying attention to what he was talking about-- but she swore she heard him say....

"Ok" she finally responds "Whatever, let's watch a kung fu movie." She brings back up her gaming device, her attention returning to it.

Hyou relaxes and internally takes the biggest sigh of relief on the planet as he reaches over for the remote. First world problems am I right?

(WOW THIS WAS FUN I AM DEFINITELY COMING BACK AAA)

"Are you scared?"

 Rolling Flash Jim

Characters: Boulder and Sunny
(they are both gems based on Steven Universe)

--

"Are you scared?" Sunstone asked the gem sitting next to him, while keeping his eyes on the meteor field. He's been carefully navigating the small space ship through the danger zone for the past half an hour or so, and Boulder hasn't said a word through all of it.
Giving him a quick glance, Sunny could see that the opal was curled up on his chair, hugging his knees to his chest, with his eyes directed at the space before them, but his gaze was clearly elsewhere. While Sunny was dealing with getting lost in space, Boulder was lost in thoughts.
Has he even heard his question?

"Boulder? Hey!" he said in a louder, playfully nagging yet considerate voice.
The other guy's head snapped up, as if he had a bucket of cold water poured onto him. A short and quiet "Huh??" was all he said.

Risking another short glance at his friend, Sunny could see him staring, a confused and unhappy expression on his face.
"Oh, you are definitely not okay." he remarked.
"I don't remember saying I was." the shorter gem replied with a slightly annoyed, and depressingly empty voice.
"I mean yeah but you would if I asked you," the Sunstone shrugged, in an attempt to lighten the mood. It didn't work.

"No offence Sunny but I really, really don't feel like playing these games right now. I already feel like crap so can you not."
Boulder's voice just notably raised, and he sounded like he's been holding back the tears this entire time.
"I'm actual trash. I'm so sorry for being... man I don't even know what word to use. For being this, ok. You shouldn't be here right now because of me being a whiny off-colour with a bunch of issues," tears started pouring, "You should be there fighting, not babysitting this useless clod!! I'm so, so sorry, Sunny,"

"Dude, I'd honestly prefer being in any place with you rather than--" Sunny tried to interject, but was silenced by the other gem's ongoing self-loathing.

"And THAT'S not even the worst part, okay?? YOU can say whatever you want but it won't change the fact that I made us ditch our team. You made some amazing fusions back there, and they could use you, they could use Carnelian-- AND!! AND!!! SPEAKING OF FUSION!"

"We could!!--"

"FLASH IS GOING TO HATE ME FOR THIS, DO YOU REALISE THAT??"
Boulder's words became barely legible due to the self-induced panic attack he's been going through.
"Flash is not going to forgive this-- we ca-can't fuse after this, Sunny we can't I couldn't take it.. I don't want him to hate me, I couldn't take it.."

"Okay time out buddy, why would Flash ever hate you? I'm part of him and I'm genuinely NOT mad, okay?? You are my best friend Boulder, and if I had to pick between you and the rebellion, you are my pick. I adore you, therefore Flash can't be mad, it's just plain logic." Sunny said, in the cheeriest voice he could muster during the situation, which was now intense both inside and outside the space ship.

"That's really nice of you to say and all, but I'm a part of him too and I have never hated myself more than I do now. I thought I was getting better and I could control this anxiety, but I cowered out because of course I did. It's like I made no progress at all as a person so what's even the point."

"The point is," Sunny took a sharp turn upwards, pushing both gems back into their seats, but neither of them flinched. Just like that, the meteor field was gone, and before them lay the vast open space, brimming with stars.
"We're both here now, alive. And okay, you have a problem. Maybe you're a bit off-colour, so what. I don't really care for that, you know?"
"Okay but--" Boulder tried to argue but Sunny kept talking, which shut him up quickly.
"Yeah, SURE we could stay and support the cause and maybe die a glorious death on the battlefield, it sounds cool in theory, but honestly? I'd much rather be a deserter and get a chance to spend more time with you. I ditched Homeworld because of you, and it was a great idea. Now I ditched the rebels because of you, and I think that was also a good idea. Not great mind you, but still good. Because I'd rather live with my best friend who's a little off-colour, than die for a leader who came out perfect."

The ship fell silent for a few moments after that, Boulder processing all the information he was given, and Sunny letting him do so at his own pace.

"You are bothered that I made us leave." the opal said finally, speaking slowly, checking facts.
"Yeah."
"But you don't.." Boulder's words faded away as he tried to find the right words to express his thoughts.
"I don't hold it against you. You weren't made for combat and I wasn't mad at you for even a second."
"I... I really hate myself for this. And the thought of Flash-- I can't stand it."
"I'm gonna be honest. Well, I'm always honest but I'm gonna be super honest with you now. I think Flash will be mad at you."
Boulder's gaze dropped.
"But - I also think he will understand. I think he'll get worked up about the situation, throw a hissy fit like he does," Sunny cackled at the thought, "Maybe stay bitter for a while, because he gets that after you. But he'll get over it. He'll understand, Boulder. Give him some credit."

Next line: "That bothers me."

Jet Russo Caine

Characters: Jet and Leon (Claude mentioned)

"That bothers me," Leon mumbled while standing in the diner hall's queue.

"What does?" Jet asked, unsure of what Leon was talking about all of sudden.

"The way Claude has been acting recently," the other replied with now lowered voice. "Don't you think it's strange, even for him?"

"He did lose his roommate just recently though. I don't think it's all that strange if he is acting odd. Imagine if the same thing had happened to you, and you had no way of knowing what happened to that person," Jet reminded him. It's not like he liked Claude much, he still couldn't help but feel sorry for him: even if he seemed like the type of person who didn't care for others, Jet was sure even a person like Claude would surely feel something about the disappearance of a person he was rooming with. Anyone would be a little shaken up, honestly.

"Yeah, I know," Leon admitted, but continued, his voice now a whisper: "But I think the way he acts is particularly strange though, especially now that he is going to get a new roommate in just a dew days. Remember what Rick told us?"

"Do you mean that instance where he saw Claude outside of his room at night?"

"Precisely!" Leon whispered in agitation. "That's just plain weird! Who just stands outside of their hallway in the middle of the night, especially when it's forbidden anyway!"

"You might have a point," Jet nodded slowly. Knowing Rick, he probably got freaked out bad when he saw Claude standing there: Rick had described Claude to look like a ghost in his white nightgown and light, opened hair all the while standing outside of the hallway's window.

"Whoever the new guy is, I'll make sure to not let him fall a victim to Claude," Leon then declared seriously. "That snake is planning something, mark my words."

Next line: "I'm not really sure about this..."

tobitaka

Characters: Alyssa and Professor Price (lacks a profile)

"I'm not really sure about this..." Alyssa shifted how she sat in the chair, nervously holding her hands close to her chest. This man, despite showing her so much kindness, was unsettling to her. His motives of 'treating' her seemed... almost suspicious. Alyssa couldn't recall that anything was wrong with her, but the man insisted repeatedly that something was wrong and that he must fix it! She may of not remembered a thing, but she wasn't an idiot.

"Nonsense! I know what you need, after all, I'm the doctor here." Professor Price gave the woman a grin, leaning over and patting her head. He turned around, grabbing a clipboard and a pen. "So, you're still remembering those thoughts, right?"

Alyssa hesitated. Why was this necessary? He was just speaking about how she was ill and how he must give her medical treatment. Why would be asking about if she still had memory of a vague incident? "I...I do." She took in a short breath, "But why would you need to ask? You were just-"

"Don't question, it's all apart of your treatment. Your amnesia must have given you fake memories to replace the ones you no longer have!" The man interrupted, as if this was some big mystery he had just solved. "Must be, of course. You can't remember anything but that!" He watched Alyssa with careful eyes as he spoke, not breaking his gaze. "I have just the medication for that, my dear." The man stepped forward, so that now he was practically towering over Alyssa. "I can make you picture perfect! You won't remember a thing about that, oh-so, 'traumatizing' event!" He finished his statement in his head. I'll make sure of that.

"Now..." He saw the sudden fear in her eyes as he reached down and grabbed her roughly by her shoulders, "shall we start your treatment?"

''I know what you hide from me, tell me the truth.''

The blonde-haired demon wanted answers, now. But the girl only stood there, with a puzzled expression on her face.

"The truth...?"

"What were you doing in the demon realm?"

The girl thought for a few moments before responding. She couldn't remember why she was there, or that she was there at all. However, there was something else on her mind: she had a feeling she had met the demon before, but couldn't remember who she was.

"...How did you know I was there?"

"Don't act stupid, I know you know. So tell me, why were you there? An ordinary human like you doesn't end up in a place like that by accident."

"I... I don't know. I don't remember being there. I don't even know who you are. Why do you want to know?"

"I'm not falling for it. I know you're up to something."

"I-I'm not! I really don't know! Just who are you, and why are you asking me these things?!"

The demon could sense the panic in her voice and her expression changed to a look of concern. She couldn't be serious... right?

"We met there yesterday. I was the one who got you out of there. Don't you remember?"

"...No."

"It was only yesterday. You can't have forgotten already."

"I don't remember what happened yesterday at all. I... just can't seem to remember anything. I don't even remember my own name."

The demon didn't know what to say. She was starting to believe the girl, but at the same time she had a feeling that helping her would be a bad idea. She ignored the feeling, though, as the girl seemed to genuinely need help trying to remember things.

"...I don't know if I'd be able to help you remember who you are. But I believe you, and I might be able to at least help you get better at remembering things. I'm not making any promises, though."

The girl thought for a few moments. She wasn't entirely sure if she should trust the demon; like she had pointed out earlier, the two had only met each other yesterday. However, the girl didn't know, or at least couldn't remember, anyone else who was willing to help her with her problem, so she felt that she didn't have a choice in the matter.

"...Okay."

"I know you're going to hate me for saying this, but..."

Characters: Teddy Augenstein / Karmen Zupan / Oxana Kozel (mentioned)

“I know you’re going to hate me for saying this, but…” Teddy shifted, uncomfortable and somewhat scared of the reaction he’d receive for what he was about to say. “You… uh, really need to stop…”

“What?” Karmen laughed, raising an eyebrow and smiling bitterly. “With what? Who are you to tell me so?”

Teddy sighed, having expected a reaction like this, but it didn’t make him any less nervous. “Your, uh, bratty… attitude is, um, really bothering a lot of people so, if you could, uh, stop?”

“Since when do I take orders from the likes of you? I’m better than you in every way, so suck it. Don’t bother me, understood?” Karmen’s command rung in Teddy’s head for a few seconds longer before Karmen wrinkled their nose and turned to leave.

In a last attempt to get Karmen to leave behind their bratty attitude, Teddy shrieked out, “What about Oxana? Doesn’t this bother her, too?”

His brash tone and the fact that he said two sentences in a row without any vocalized pauses of any kind surprised him, but it didn’t seem to bother Karmen. Rather, what bothered Karmen was the content of Teddy’s unexpected shriek, as they stopped but didn’t turn.

Their voice dropped in pitch, and they let out a small warning, leaving Teddy in a cold sweat, “Leave Oxana out of this.”

"If you were looking for a good moment, that was it."
