Calm, Mellow, Apathetic, Indecisive, Playful, Creative, Lazy

Yuqi has a calm and mellow character, quite representative of her writing and style, with a small smile almost permanently etched on her face. Even in times of great distress, she rarely shows much emotion and neither does she understand why others are so affected by such events. Lacking in empathy, she has few friends due to not being able to be there when they need her most.

She is also quite indecisive, not used to being spoilt by choice, though she does enjoy it, and can spend days thinking about a single choice. Due to this, when she writes or paints, she's often quite experimental, swapping and mixing styles and techniques, creating quite novel or strange outcomes. She is actually quite playful and somewhat lazy at heart, enjoying expressing her creativity in a variety of ways.

Backstory

Birth & Family Relations
Yuqi was born a few days before the Festival of Thanks, as a premature birth, which was seen as an oddly inauspicious sign in her family. Her parents had believed since the pregnancy was conceived, that their child would definitely be born after the Festival of Thanks due to timing, and would be a great blessing bestowed by the God and the Consort from the festival. Hence, since she was born prematurely, she was viewed with mixed feelings. Additionally, Yuqi's birth was the most painful out of all her siblings for her mother, alienating her further.

Perhaps in most families, the youngest was doted upon most. But this family did not become one of them.

Viewed with indifference all her life, Yuqi grew used to amusing herself and making do with what she had. Over the years, she maintained lukewarm/distant relations with her family, including her three older siblings.

Family Status & Religion
Ning Yuqi was born to quite a wealthy family, her mother being a respected tutor of mathematics and her father a retired soldier. Even with all the mouths to feed, there was plenty to go around and a well-sized house that never seemed cramped. For generations, the Ning clan has been highly religious & devout in nature, hence it was no surprise that there was an entirely seperated hall dedicated to worship and prayer in Yuqi's family home.

Even after moving out at a young age, Yuqi kept up the tradition, at first building a small but carefully maintained altar in a corner of her room, and later creating a similar small prayer room that suited her aesthetics and beliefs. She has never faltered in her faith, diligently praying to her God and the Consort at least once a day, with an unshakable belief in the spiritual aspect of the world.

When at a loss, she occasionally resorts to prayer, or visiting suitable temples.

• Yuqi is an author, somewhat known for more fantastical/poetic/eccentric stories, and enjoys calligraphy/painting as a side job/hobby.
• Yuqi lives alone in her own small house in the city of Autumn.
