Personality
There is zero question in Jean-León's mind that what he has been taught is absolutely correct. Call it stubbornness, call it passion, call it indoctrination - they all mean the same to him. Every mage, himself included, is secretly harboring a desire to create destruction, specifically the kind that can, and will, destroy lives. And the ones that are hidden, that claim not to know about it - oh, they are the worst of all. He will find those who are guilty of being mages, or destroy himself trying. He is a mage, after all - destruction is in his blood. (100 words)
History
After his parents were killed by mages, Jean-León was raised the ward of a zealous witch hunter who collected orphan children. Most of the other children ran away or grew up and left, but he never felt the need/desire to - no one else seemed to have the ideas of the hunter, and by now he was indoctrinated enough that it was the only thing he really believed so nothing really swayed him away.
Then he got his powers.
It was slow at first - he'd ask who'd stolen something he had in his cache, and someone would look just guilty enough for him to know who to pursue. But slowly, it grew so people would kneel, apologize at his feet, even if he didn't know what question to ask. If they were guilty of something, they became stunned. He accidentally did it to the hunter, which is how he learned that everyone feels guilty about something. In secret, he worked at it until it would only happen with specific questions, as that was more useful to the hunter's cause.
When he finally showed the hunter, the hunter was shocked, though less surprised than expected. There was no real physical indication, but Jean-León believed he should be marked, so he got a giant rose tattoo on his shoulder as a declaration that he was a dangerous mage, but he was working to better the world.
Now he uses his guilt magic to try to find hidden mages, so he can bring them to people like the hunter. He doesn't know what they do with them, but he is serving is purpose (271 words)
Guilt Manifestation
Jean-León is able to make to make people feel their guilt. Whether they say it or not depends on the strength and desire of the person and their guilt. Due to his discipline, they only feel the need to talk about the guilt he asks about, rather than confessing whatever guilt comes to their mind in his presence. There's some possibility that he can create guilt, but that is rare at his power level and only happens accidentally. It is becoming slightly more likely, however. Also, "guilt" is what the other character feels they have done wrong - if they do not feel that being a mage is bad, they will not be affected at all if that is the question asked. Unless, of course, it is one of the rare instances where his power creates guilt they don't actually feel. Again, rare at this level of power, but the potential is there.
Costs
- Magic disables one or more of the caster's senses while it is in use (2) - the mule's sight vanishes completely until the other responds with their guilt, or some time (determined by Jean-León's conviction [more = longer time]) has passed
- Magic use has a short-term adverse effect on the caster's mood/frame of mind. (1) - for the next hour or so after asking a magicked question (again, determined by his conviction), Jean-León is incapable of feeling any sort of empathy at all
