Hate

The Avatar of Hate | they/them | Minor Antagonist in the Panic Stories

As the name implies, Hate is the metaphysical embodiment of pure, unfiltered and complete hatred. Grudges, enemies, loathing, deep-seated prejudices, all the forms that hate takes, Hate is them. As a living flame, Hate embodies the more slow-burn effects of hatred more than the quick and dirty hate that is fueled more by anger, which is under Pain's purview. Hate has a similar composed persona to Frenzy, but Hate is far less chaotic, preferring to play a long game of evil and insidious plans with their host. Of the three Avatars, Hate is probably the smartest, or at least the most crafty of them.

As one of the Avatars, Hate has a singular job - keep their assigned Aspect of God from realizing their powers. Hate causes all the incarnations of the Maintaining Aspect to loathe the world they are supposed to maintain from destruction or wanton creation.

In the Panic Stories, Smolder/Sierra is Hate's host, although she spends most of the story in denial of it. Hate eventually confronts Sierra in her own mind, but they underestimate Sierra's strength and are defeated by her force of will. Despite that, since Sierra can only maintain what is there and not creator nor destroy, Hate is the only three of the Avatars to come out of the change-over of universes totally unscathed. They do have a role in some PPU stories... but I'd hate to spoil that now, wouldn't I?

Hate's signature color is Yellow and their signature shape is the circle, one inside the other like in their eyeball. Hate has a more humanoid appearance from a PPU story, a sort of human-shaped sandbag with a scarf and hat that they are possessing. In less canonically related works, Hate takes a look from Bill Cipher of Gravity Falls and appears as a big flame but with a hat and little arms and legs. I call this version of Hate "Bate" as in "Bill-Hate" much like Bipper was "Bill-Dipper."
