The Origin

Power is no longer what he seeks. He has the ability to take it, but instead he cradles it in his arms. He's silent about it, and only chooses to control just a fraction of it.

His life now dwells under the radar, contemplating life continuously as time hastily passes by his existence.

Out of boredom, he has birthed an organization, twisting that power into a group that desires a perfect balance in the modern world.

He is the Grandfather of the Prodigal. And has been its leader for decades.

But Grandfather's life has prolonged for more than just decades. It was centuries since he's been alive. Slowly, he's growing tired of life... ready to pass on his legacy to someone else.

Most of the regular employees in the main Demos Corporation, know the history of the business, but very little of their President. Almost all of the training videos and orientation periods never involve him, or at least makes it obscure as possible. As odd as it is, his own company viewing their President as a complete enigma, he much rather keep it that way in order to maintain his private businesses.

Aside from its every-day lower employees not recognizing who he is, he always holes himself up in his office. So absorbed in his work, for both his business and the Prodigal - he always puts aside menial irrelevant work to his secretary... if he has one. His office is also well-guarded, both inside and outside of the building.

Suyohan is Demos's favorite restaurant, where he spends a good time enjoying a new meal privately cooked by its owner, the head chef.

However, he spends a gracious amount people-watching since he enters the restaurant alone. Plenty of times he likes to overhear conversations at tables next to his. Only the owner knows about him, but he proceeds to pretend to not know who he is.

Aside from entertaining himself by people-watching and overhearing conversations at nearby tables, he will pull out his journal, jotting out ingredients to influence his own homecooked meals.

Aside from his office, that is well-guarded 24/7 when present, he never likes staying in one place for very long. Hence, he finds most of his comfort sitting in the backseat of a car, with a private driver - making it hard to pinpoint his location for people that want to track him down.

Of course, Atticus always has somewhere to go. Meetings, appointments, get-togethers, parties. But it's common that Demos will request that his driver continues to drive around until gas is near empty - giving him a moment to calm his mind and rest his eyes.

Like how Atticus doesn't want to be sitting in one place, it affects his lifestyle. He has enough money to buy a house one day and then purchase a penthouse in another. For his own safetly, his addresses varies day to day, or even switches in minutes if he seriously wants someone off his tail. When he created the Prodigal, the longest he's lived in one place for a month... before it was ransacked by his pursuers... twelve times.

He could choose to keep a home for longer if he pleases, but there are others involving his private life, then he would rather move constantly if it meanmt the safety of his loved ones.

The Prodigal is his legacy and his power, and he works endlessly to maintain it. Aside from his underlings that carry out his orders, he has little help involving most the important decision-making. And somedays, he has a complex office space set up by his members, allowing him to watch several things at once because there is no one he trusts to perform this kind of work.

In his several journals he's written in, it's always one of the first pages that has a collection of numbers that he keeps. He even memorizes them himself, but there's a reason why he's written them down: they're his measurements. Demos suffers from being a big man, and will often visit (the) tailor shop to get clothes made for him. About 80% of his wardrobes are bespoke suits, while the rest are still custom tailored to his size. Even his shoes, and his accessories are all made specifically for him. Demos cannot afford to go to a store to buy things off the shelf.

Trivia

  • His company, the Demos Corporation, runs a bit of everything; from fast foods to supermarkets, they provide law firms, banks, and insurance. His company is notorious and therefore Grandfather is rich enough to control a few cities (if not, a whole country).
    > His company is currently venturing into innovative technology; now jumping into the bandwagon of smartphones and computers. Right now his corporation is running at #4 as one of the best global companies in the subject of smart devices.
  • His known hobby is collecting journal and cooking.
    > Others don't realize that Atticus enjoys peoplewatching. If he had the pleasure of time, he also enjoys running simple errands or tag along with normal life-styles with friends (ex. Grocery shopping, eating at fast-food places, helping them cook or wash dishes).
  • Atticus owns a pet rabbit. He is a flemish giant, whose hair is the same color as his own. His name is Greyhound.
    > There has been recent events where Greyhound has magically become SOMEWHAT human. He has a human form, as giant as he is, but still somehow has his ginourmous ears. If it weren't for the ears, Demos would surely have treated him differently.
    > Brings him along into his office. People who enter his office are often alarmed to see him hopping around the office. And it happens more than once that Greyhound has managed to leave the office and venture around the whole... 20+ floor corporation building.
  • When rice is present in the meal, he eats an awful amount of it. Ideally he likes to eat at least ten cups, but depending how hungry he is, Demos can eat at least a whole sack of rice (the big ones, mind you).
  • Has a habit of smirking and directly looking at their face when talking. It's not that he's mindful when having a conversation, that's just how he is.
  • He always has a driver to drive him around. Eventhough he has a qualified driver's license, he drives aggressively, carelessly, and recklessly.
  • Atticus rarely has time to sleep in his own bed. He functions very well on little to no sleep.
    > Thus, he takes the opportunity to have a short nap when he is being driven around. If he's truly exhausted, he will order his driver to drive the car until gas runs out so he could have at least a few hours of sleep.
    > If provided a bed to sleep, he cannot fall asleep so easily. The only way for him to have a good night sleep is having sex prior to sleeping.

Skills

Unknown Origin Passive

Atticus was once known as "Akuma." No matter how much of his own history he's delved into, who he was born from or even where he's supposed to be from remain a mystery to him. He is very aware of his own individual as a half-human and half-demon hybrid, but even living for a little over two centuries... he's still unsure if his current powers are all to it... or there are still more that can be awakened.

> Thanks to his origin, is not only superhuman in comparison to human strength and invulnerability, Atticus has a very long standing lifespan. However, it's too long for his liking.

Marking Active

In order to mark, Atticus will have to deeply bite his desired target in order for it to work. It must break into the person's skin until it leaves an apparent bruise after he detaches from them. Unfortunately, the bruise never fades away.

> After the events of Marking, Demos will have the ability to "feel" his target's emotions at a certain distance. The closer he is to the target, the stronger the emotions. The ability is advantageous but Demos dislikes using it if it means to gain higher ground.

> Having multiple "marked" individuals close to him is distracting. And at certain situations, it's overwhelming. Hence why he rarely marks people.

> Grandfather is sexually active, and cannot impregnate women unless they are marked AND he is in his demon form.

"Akuma" Inactive

Directly related to his unknown origin, Atticus's form will slightly morph into a demonic form. Was commonly used as a scare tactic for when he was a wakagashira (first lieutenant) in the Yakuza. However, this form more than just to scare people and is capable to destroy. His scleras turn black, and his amber eyes will turn bloody red. Red horns will appear with amber tips, while the moles under both eyes will morph into red markings. But the most important, his body is hot to the touch and his throat burns of fire.

> Atticus can control this form, but likely he is full of anger and rage and it's used as a way to survive or protect his loved ones. It's only best that people would stray away during this form, because Akuma was awakened because he had no other choice.

Big Money Defense

Alot of money has an advantage in the modern world today. Demos is too familiar with that. So whatever he lacks, the man will cover that up with cash.

Childhood

He was a boy with no memories recalling his parents, and fell unconscious while his whole body completely buried in the snow in the middle of the harshest winter nights of Japan. However peddlers had discovered the boy, his body still warm under all that feet of snow and brought him to a nearby base. The peddlers had no idea what to come of the boy, who's body was fiery hot even after the cold winter. Such superhuman abilities only alerted everyone.

His amber eyes and blonde hair had stood him out from everyone, attracting those around him. Including a wealthy individual who sought his beauty, was instantly captivated by his appearance and demanded to take him home as claim as his own.

He named him "Akuma," which was the named after the stuffed animal that the boy became attached to when he began living with him. The individual took him in as his son soon after his eldest children began to develop some attachment to his blonde, amber-eyed appearance.

Teen years

Akuma was homeschool most of his childhood and early teenage years. However, with the rapid modernization in the Meiji period where public schools were becoming needed to help catch up with Western culture and advancement. Therefore it was decided that the boy would enter an academy in order to provide more professional support for their family. Akuma was the first out of his siblings to enter the rapid fast education system, thus it was important for him to maintain the academic learning. The young man became the target of the Yakuza's political and legal intelligence. Otherwise, a diplomatic lawyer that is loyal to the syndicate's growing family.

Because Kuma spent most of his time in a private academy, and less of any Yakuza-related businesses, he often spoiled himself in pleasure. Due to his unique appearance amongst the Japanese, he was a rather the eccentric fellow that illuminated charm; often flirting with both men and women to his liking. Atticus during his teenage years often gotten into useless fights with those who disliked his habitual flirting, teasing remarks, and more importantly his pretentious character of being the son of the Yakuza boss.

(young) adulthood

Akuma strictly followed an academic pathway through law solely for the sake of his family. However the practices made were rather difficult as he grew older.

Perhaps it was normal with age but his temper rose quite drastically. Sharp, angry remarks and the urge to strike was a common occurrence everyday. There are days where he'd even snap at his father and siblings, and quite often he'd get punished for it.

But his connections to the Yakuza were discovered easily by his rivals and often times found himself in foul predicaments. His anger often clashed with others to a point fiery red horns began to develop and his eyes shifted to a demonic-like gazes.

Although his goal was set on becoming their law advisor, it tumbled down after Akuma's shift caused an uproar among the clan. The only way the young lawyer could possibly save himself was to leave the public world and work alongside their general. Being the son of the clan's leader allowed him to become a captain of his own group. Akuma's father and the general eventually passed of old age, leaving the young captain to become the clan's wakagashira while his elder brother followed his own path to become the next chairman of their family.

betrayal and the escape

Everyone, even Akuma himself discovered more of his own demon-like abilities; this including his powers of 'Marking' and his long lifespan. He's worked for the Yakuza for generations; long past the death of his older brother and worked aimlessly to build his family the empire his father hoped for.

Yet the power and his immortality simply scares the newer generation, believing that Akuma himself will only come to take over the seat if they do not obey the general's order. Due to their selfish life of luxury alongside the paranoia of being overruled, they've sent several families to hunt down the demon. Being attacked in his home gave him both the physical and mental scars that constantly reminded him of the betrayal. Not only the attack left him the scar across his right eye, but such attacks also lead to the death of his lover, Ibiki.

It had already been too late to save her, but he simply followed her words and set to flee to the Western world of opportunities: America.

demos co. and the prodigal

Akuma started with very little when he flew to America. Barely enough to afford living in a studio apartment for about a month unless he found himself a job. Yet he couldn't do very little due to his background, knowing that it would be wiped off the face of the Earth and his new identity was practically blank. But he was welcome with open arms in a very suspicious business that wasn't necessarily catering to normal humans. Yet, it was a start nonetheless. With the help of Vlad, he had the opportunity to change his alias to Atticus official and left in order to pursue much greater achievements.

He joined a small corporate soon after the change of identity, but he grew comfortable with the office life in the job he was hired in. Because of his history and experience in the business side of things during his years as a Yakuza, he found himself climbing the corporate latter quite fast. And within a ten year span since he was just the President's secretary and acting leader, he became the owner and CEO of his very own corporation. Overtime he worked endlessly, taking on its challenges until he found himself at one of the top in the global business scale.

Since its rise, Atticus grew tired of the business. Though he continues to maintain it well, he has sights on something else. Thus he created the Prodigal, an underground organization created to keep balance... or imbalance if Grandfather wishes it.

the heir

[WARNING: Depression, thoughts of suicide]

Atticus was waiting for a time to pass on the torch to someone else. When Emery joined, he had very little interest in her at first because of how plain she appeared. But out of boredom he watched her - even when she was involved in the Yamatando clan by getting kidnapped due to her carelessness - he was in the process of sending people to retrieve her. However the news came when she had already escaped from their hands before his agents came, he was awfully curious about how she managed to do it. Thus, for a year or two, Demos carefully watched her movements while processing Elois's existence.

Elois was a potential individual but he absolutely detests her demeanor and character. It would clash with Atticus's ideal heir, thus he continued to watch her while thinking of a way to diminish the Elois persona while having Emery keep the abilities that were desirable.

The awakening of Elois has affected social ties between her and Emery's friend. In fact, Atticus has studied that Elois's intent was to isolate her so that it remained just the two of them. Elois's influence on Emery was far too strong and each time Emery has come back, she'd already had cut off her connection with a loved one. And the final straw came to the Administration Member that she had longing, romantic ties with - Hope had no choice but to distance himself from Emery in order to refrain from Elois's destructive personality. Emery fell into a struggle of depression and emotional distraught due to a long period of isolation and Atticus was forced to intervene before she had attempted to kill herself.

Atticus takes in Emery, emotionally broken and ambitionless. Using his power to make sure Emery's records are wiped away and announced "dead" he takes it as an advantage to help Emery back up - all while trying to remove Elois out of the picture and then mentoring her as the new leader of the Prodigal. However, overtime Demos began to develop feelings for his apprentice, making the relationship difficult between the two of them.

Relationships

Emery

42549982_lKpIR4GhLqDywff.jpg

predecessor

When they first met, Atticus put his foot down on any ideas of having any romantic ties between eachother. Their relationship would be strictly a professional, mentor-protege relationship like it would be in the Prodigal. However, if Emery were to remain by Demos's side and she remained alone, it was inevitable that their relationship will bloom and Atticus will eventually view her as someone more than just an "apprentice."

She remained by Demos's side as a way of being thankful for his help. Atticus not only pulled her back from her previous state of despair, but it was only him that helped him remove Elois out of the picture. It was obvious that the woman already had feelings for Atticus. But he prioritized her growth and development as his predecessor much more than being a partner. Demos thought he was clever and used this as an opportunity with Espada through a form of motivation to develop her capabilities, but it backfired in the end. Atticus was guilty on his part but in the end he's realized his feelings for her.

It had been already too late by the time Emery disappeared to take over Demos's position in the Prodigal. Though accepted this, he still continues to act as if Emery belonged to him. He denies it constantly, but becomes blantantly obvious whenever he sees another man with her.

Hope

5c4ac8d45bc23c8f7580b759d8b9a7f7.png

it was meant to be

He is well aware of Hope's existence and he once hated Kirisawa for appearing in Emery's life again. He had been sour the whole time, where Hope was allowed to be by her side and not him. But if Emery were to play her cards right, she'd tried to put the two of them alone together and see if the two of them could get past the hate. So her resolution: Send the both of them to Japan on a mission... that mission being a vacation (except that neither of them knew about it).

Demos was too blind to see how compatible he was to Hope. Not until their trip had reminded him of his years in the Yakuza and was convinced that he was "Ibiki reincarnated." Atticus was hellbent to believe he was supposed to commit himself only to Emery, but it seems like Hope was able to convince him that Demos had another person to be attached to.

Greyhound

31033503_s3LgbmgQAffK66G.png

he's "all ears"

It's rather hard to take in, as Atticus still is confused about the situation... Greyhound is a Flemish Giant that he adopted since he was a small kitten. He didn't expect him to turn into a human one day but he has no choice but to accept it as it seems like Greyhound only wishes to help him in some way.

Greyhound lives with him in his home(s) and he's typically there to listen to whatever problems Atticus is having. Demos has a hard time trying to treat him as he usually does when he's a human, but thankfully the form he takes right now is temporary.

Hamlet

e29d55d06d4a1e15657e459878a25cad.png

the most reliable

Demos views him as a feral cat that was picked up by Emery. Poor, scraggly, and aggressive. And Demos needed to fix that if he was going to stay by Emery's side.

It was through Emery's recommendation that Grandfather would be the one to mentor him on becoming a proper agent... or at least an agent for Atticus's liking so that he could become a commendable Private Agent.

When he was expecting a military man to train him, he was only was met with an old man who treated him harshly and had high expectations. He was strict, for sure, but Hyde noticed that he wasn't someone to be trifled with. His past as a Yakuza man had hardened him greatly, and several times that the Agent was beaten down relentlessly by Atticus before Emery intervened. In the end, Hamlet had growned to like Atticus... or at least tolerated him that he was comfortable to argue with him without the fear of being beaten down.

Maximille

c3e866bba1241bd59c7f73ee3bdbb523.png

a temporary partner

Grandfather will fancy just about anything that's caught his eye. His days of traveling under Prodigal businesses, Maximille made him awestruck... even if it was just a short period of time. From Max's hometown in France, he took him back to the United States as a loyal member of the organization. For a while Atticus lavished him with his attention, but he never bothered to take their relationship any further than just a "partner."

And quite often Atticus would leave for business, making their time spent even less than it has been. And without announcement, he eventually disappeared and truly the only way for Durand to reach out to him was through text or a phone call. Eventually, such a simple call was hard enough. Though, Atticus trusted Durand enough to allow him the process of contacting him directly.

Maximille remains dedicated and the sourness between their relationship has easily gotten past and soon enough he was able to pick up a partner to remain happy with. And he's still loyal to the organization.

Jr

72754a06957ec47d3fc57a60293da9e9.png"

Adoptive Son, Heir of Demos Corp.

Jr was Emery's first child... and as upsetting that it was when he discovered that he, himself, wasn't the blood father... he felt obligated to care of him during Jr's adolescent years. Especially if Emery took his place, and the actual father was abesent, it only made sense that he should have part of the responsibility for care.

But of course, it is inevitable for Hope to find out he was the father of Emery's firstborn. And of course, that he was more than willing to become the main caregiver. When he thought he would have to distance himself of Jr when he first loved him as his own, it made the relationship between him and Hope even more difficult. Despite all of this, Jr still sees him as a father, nothing more and nothing less.

Atticus continued to raise Jr with Hope. Quite often that he'd take Jr to work, making him exposed to the corporation that he built. With that, he had full intentions to influence his son - hoping that he'll grow to become his potential successor. Years later when Jr grew into a splendid young man... he still did not disappoint.

Lucia

ad1a13c63fcd335c02cbeaed2be97267.png

daughter

Ideally, the family thought that one child would be fitting enough. However, only having Jr. didn't sit well with Emery. Thus she wanted to have another child... one with Atticus.

All three parents treated the daughter with tender love and joy, but no different from her older brother. Though... maybe a little more spoiled - especially Atticus, who may have been the reason the way she is now.

Lucia does as she wishes thanks to her parents, but there are days where she does try to help her older brother. In a family of such obligated, dedicated workers - Lucia, too, wished she could do something to change the world. Yet her parents, Atticus and Hope especially, strongly do not want her in any part of the Prodigal - she really does have no other choice but to fiddle around with the Demos Corp.

Leon

8f8688485395b10ebfce5ecc9841d5ee.png

irrelevant, doesn't want to talk about it

From the Overseer digging up records where Atticus assumed he "wiped out"... Demos had been quietly sending money over to this... individual. Some days, Atticus comes to visit him for a day to see what he's up to. Unfortunately, this one doesn't do much with his life even after being prodded by Atticus on several occasions.

Rumors could only assume that Leon is somewhat Grandfather's "bastard child" and wouldn't want anyone else to know that he's been taking care of another behind his spouses and two other children. But if the man were really honest with himself, he only wants to make sure Leon is safe and making sure he's happy.
