Nikolai Byko

A lazy flirt with a mysterious past, but you'll never pry it out of him. Maybe you'll be the one to finally convince him to fall in love?
Or maybe you'll end up like the rest, watching him laugh as he breaks your heart.

Born not in Russia but the Soviet Union, Nikolai had always been tired. He worked the moment he was able to, and double so when his father fell ill. The only breaks between his hard work were the many flings he had with others. Some did not want it to be just flings, some met with him behind their partners' backs, and it all caught up to him.

World War II was on the rise and the government kept an eye for possible traitors. A spurned ex of Nikolai's claimed he was one, and he was taken away without a word.
He was tossed into a gulag, and the exhaustion he had at work became twice as hard and twice as long. There was only one solace there, a young man that still had fight left in him. So when the guards offered those in the gulag a choice to join the army and that man agreed, Nikolai followed him.

War was far more frightening than he had anticipated.
Bullets and blood everywhere. People he had enough time to look at before they fell in front of him.
He watched as even the person he cared about fell. Bullet by bullet.

It all seemed hopeless. There was no point in this. Everything was gone.
Nikolai sat on his knees, long past horror and fear and now only a void of emotion, somberly waiting for death to come. But it wasn't death that had arrived, but a... person.
He had the body of a person, but dressed too fine for a battlefield. His head was a black lamp with blue flames. It should have been frightening, but Nikolai only stared dimly as the man offered him a second chance at life in exchange for holding something for him. Take this second chance, the man had said, and get revenge.

Revenge.
Revenge against Fate-- against Him. For putting him in this life in the first place, for taking everything from him.

Nikolai agreed and housed the soul of Sloth. Granted incredible powers, he escaped the war, escaped the Soviet Union, and clawed his way to a new life, with revenge never leaving his mind.

Notes: Nikolai is an OLD character of mine, one of the first! He was a great exploration for young, young me. I remember wanting to make a Sin OC, but Lust, Wrath, so many of them had so many interpretations that I couldn't spin anything on that. I tried Sloth and slowly he became a bit of a Casanova. Sure he sleeps... but he sleeps with people KEKEKEKEK
Back at the time I made him, I'd been working on a history project for high school and wanted to connect it to his past to make sure that even if I slacked off on my project, he would keep the information fresh in my mind.
I try to condense his backstory so often but there's just too much sobs. Right now he's one of my strongest Sins, mostly due to bias KEKEKEKEK. He's also one of the ones I'll let break the fourth wall now and then; he knows there's more to his universe than lets on, so if you have world-hopping OCs he'll be able to help connect them to most of my OCs.

Personality: Nikolai is as flirtatious as he is lazy. It's obvious by his complaining and lack of motivation that he doesn't like to be active, or even clean up after himself. Although he does take pleasure in teasing and flirting with people. He's persistent and will do what he can to win you over. He's also devious, and though he's not active, he somehow manages to know plenty of things...

Abilities:

- Immortality - Kept at the age of 25. Don't mistake it for invincibility, he can't regenerate and can indeed be killed.
- Mist - A purple smoke-like mist will envelope Nikolai at times, even taking the form of snakes. If touched, the victim will either lose feeling in the affected area or fall asleep. The numbing can help with wounds, but only to block the pain, no healing is done. The sleep can range from five minutes to three hours, and whatever affliction's caused can easily be taken away by Nikolai should he feel like it. The mist can also teleport Nikolai around, usually when he's too lazy to walk or drive. It can also carry other people with him as long as he's touching them.
- Dream - A kind of combo ability with Mist, Nikolai can freely walk into one's dreams. He can either interact with someone in them or not, and can bring someone into the dream world if he needs to. If he's in a dream caused by Mist, he can alter the dreamscape. He often uses this to make people he dislikes have nightmares.
- Marionette - Nikolai, the master at manipulation, can create a marionette board out of thin air. Strings will climb out of his mist and try to latch onto his opponent, and should the strings attach he will be able to control them. This can only be used on one person, however, and during that time Nikolai cannot use any other abilities.
- Full Form  - A more demonic form Nikolai assumes when he calls upon Sloth's power. In it he has black, leathery wings; black claws; eyes with white irises and black scleras; straightened hair with blackened tips; and black horns. He moves faster and has more strength in this form.
- Complete Apathy - A move usable only in his full form, Nikolai's hand will go through his opponent's head, not physically but spiritually. He will instead grab your soul and crush it, severing the connection to your physical body and leaving you trapped in a coma-like state. Can only be done when he grabs the opponent's head. Tends to use this against immortal/invincible enemies.

Drawing Details:

- Always looks half asleep.

- He's branded on his right forearm by the Sin he is. It looks similar to the font Papyrus or Bradley Hand.

- His tie's always loose, and he always looks disheveled in some way.

Fun/Extra Facts:

- The war gave him PTSD that's triggered by snow. Looking at it makes him uncomfortable, but touching it will give him breakdowns. Seeing it so white contrasts with the bloody battlefield he saw long ago, and he'll start to get flashbacks. He'll either leave for a tropical area towards winter or won't leave his house.

- Nikolai has a pet crow that helps him upon occasion. Its name is Ezekiel, and can grow large enough to carry him around at times.

- When talking, he tends to end sentences with "dearie" or "darling".

- When in a relationship with a man, Nikki can switch between roles in the bedroom. 

- Don't talk about his birthday, he doesn't want to acknowledge his age.

- He can speak Russian, English, and a good enough portion of Spanish. And, surprisingly, Klingon.

- The SLOTH brand on his arm changes languages depending on who reads it. Someone with the native tongue of, say, French, would see the brand in that language.

- The wings from his full form actually belong to the Virtue, Chastity. In a bout of rage he ripped off the angel's wings and took them in as his own.

- Capable of making deals with people like a cliche devil. He'll grant you your wish, but he's also very devious.

- It's not a coincidence that Sloth is a teacher and students have a habit of procrastinating. 

- Can't have children. It's nothing dramatic and he's not heartbroken about it. He has adopted two kids, though.
