About
Lorant likes to test the limits. He wants to know exactly where the line is, and then he wants to know how far he can cross it before the consequences outweigh the fun. He's a monster of a child, needlessly cruel to his peers, reckless and apathetic of things being broken(be it objects or bones), and only interested in things nobody wants him to see or do.
His parents are busy, and they are proud people, and they refuse to admit that they don't keep a good eye on him. They defend him ruthlessly and as long as he acts like a perfect little angel around them their willful blindness of his behavior never falters.
So he gets away with destroying lawn ornaments and hiding pins in other kids' shoes and stealing trinkets from every shop in town. People learn to just avoid him, and in turn he starts secluding himself in his room pursuing more lonesome hobbies.
Which is how he ended up delving into dark magic and spending his nights summoning demons and dabbling in necromancy, and attracting the attention of the town witch. Who is more of a stick-in-the-mud than the proper spooky cryptid Lorant has been led to believe he is, but that doesn't stop Lorant from agreeing to become his apprentice.
Personality & Outlook
Optimist, tends to like his chances even on a 50-50 shot(or worse, really)(he's a gambler & a force of chaos). Generally disinterested in other people until he thinks he can get something from them(information, a fun time, etc). That said he tends to be pretty aware of when nobody is looking at him and tries to get into some mischief the moment it happens. Lives in the moment, doesn't fixate on the past or plan ahead too much.
Has a hard time empathizing with people, but he TRIES to do it for the people he likes, at least. Doesn't always succeed, but he tries.
Seems kinda spacey & like he zones out a lot, but really just ignores people constantly(if it doesn't involve his special interests it captures none of his interest). Even when he's paying attention to someone he rarely looks directly at them.
Can get pretty passive-aggressive when people try to tell him not to do shit; warning him against something is the best way to guarantee he does the dang thing. A rebellious little bastard with the right mix of nihilism and lack of foresight to pull some excellent power moves.
Speaks pretty bluntly, partially out of genuine ignorance of social etiquette and partially just to be a bastard.
Extremely jealous of people with natural talent or grasps on certain subjects, especially witches. Just kind of offended that he has to work and study and think about casting instead of having an intrinsic 'feel' for bending the world to his will. He doesn't really EXPRESS this jealousy, beyond Aggressively Staring at his object of jealousy while screaming internally.
Powers & Assets
Hobby: Hobbies
Lorant is in and out of hobbies on the monthly. Has the resources and free time to just do anything that catches his interest. The ones he is most committed to are:
• Makeup. Mostly started as him trying to cover his facial scarring but it's turned into something he really enjoys
• Photography. Crosses over into any number of other hobbies so while he's not super into photography on its own he gets a lot of use out of the skill.
• Death. Just super fascinated with anything related to it. Loves ghost/horror stories, haunted objects, different cultures' philosophies & rituals surrounding death, the AESTHETIC(S).
• Tailoring. Very particular about his appearance, makes some of his own clothes but more often than not will just alter store-bought stuff to fit better.
Amateur Mage
A CoL-certified amateur mage with a specialization in summoning and necromancy. Mostly self-taught from library books, recently deigned to become some old hermit's apprentice.
• Lorant's casting philosophy is rooted in spite/ 'I do what i want'.
• Despite a fascination with death, doesn't actually use real corpses in his magic. Prefers to animate the bodies of dolls/mannequins instead. 'It's cleaner.'
Mayor's Son
His mom is the mayor, which has two main benefits for him: A)lack of supervision, cuz she & his dad are busy all the time. And B)disposable income, cuz his parents are p well off & feel kinda guilty about not spending time w/ him (& also have to bribe him into behaving at public functions).
Relationships
Maverick [mentor]
Some old witch who walked in on him trying to summon a demon and has taken educating Lorant on the dangers and intricacies of magic into his own hands. Lorant mostly humors him, but is pretty fascinated by Mav's methods and having a perspective on necromancy aside from the same 3 books he's been able to study from. Also, kinda nice to just have an adult that likes spending time with him.
Kenny [best friend, albeit by default]
A girl from school who came to him for help with a ghost problem. Mainly interested in her weirdness but these two asocial clowns have some kind of friendship going. He tries to give her fashion advice because she hurts his eyes but she doesn't take ANY OF IT.
Parents [parents]
Mom is the mayor, Dad is like her secretary or something. It's whatever. Allowance is cool, local politics are lame.

Listen you know this bitch made a deal with a demon. It occasionally fuels his spells, he sows chaos in the world, it's a win win. Lorant prefers to keep it a secret, but sometimes not.
Aesthetic
Cleanliness and organization are big themes for Lorant. He loves shiny perfectly-maintained things, elaborate ribbons & bows, formal attire, that super sterile magazine-cover-esque style in all things.
He actively dislikes bright colors, to the point that a clear day's sky makes him uncomfortable. The only exception is soft pinks, other than those it's all white & grey all the time for him.
Into weird ghosty macabre shit, but only if it can be made pretty. Flowers on bleached skulls, ethereal glowing, semitransparency, pristinely-embalmed corpses, etc. NOT here for weird fluids & smells.
Trivia
• He fills most of his time with various hobbies. Many activities, he gets bored of fairly quickly, but he's kept a strong interest in collecting & customizing BJDs, magic, and anything death-related.
• He also runs several blogs and is a bit of a photographer, but considers them means to catalog his other interests rather than actual hobbies in themselves.
• occasionally goes without makeup so he can freak people out with the severe scarring + missing eye(only 'friends' get this special treat tho)
• his right(brown) eye is fake, his natural eyes were both blue
• his hair is naturally blond, he bleaches it white
• Nobody knows how he lost the eye, he just comes home for dinner one day with a hole in his head and a refusal to tell anyone about the incident. It's been like a decade and he's never told anyone.
• Smells like fancy flowery cologne, or a freshly-opened pack of cards
• Autistic
• asexual?? Generally ambivalent about the idea of sex with another human person but WOULD fuck a tentacle/bug/otherwise alien monster given the chance
• Can't deal with super bright colors or lights, every screen brightness is set to 0%
• Exclusively listens to instrumentals and foreign music(started as an anime thing, branched out into anything with lyrics he can’t understand). He likes the music part & feels that invoking explicit human concepts over it is reductive.
Q & A
Q: Is he self concious of his scars? Does he cover them to appease his parents or because he's ashamed of them, or is there another reason for it? Did he just get sick of being asked about it? If he had to go without makeup for a day would he be ashamed of it or carry on his day as usual? It's a rare occasion for him to do so, but what if he was forced to for some reason?
A: (OOC) It is partially parent-appeasement, but he's also very prideful & particular about his appearance in general. I'm actually not sure if this stems from self-consciousness or if it's just a special interest(possibly started as self-consciousness and morphed into a legit interest).
If for some reason he were forced to go without makeup, he'd likely just not go out in public at all. But if that wasn't an option he might embrace it for a bit because he has a sadistic streak to him and likes how uncomfortable it makes some people, but he'd probably be sick of it as soon as a stranger tried to be sympathetic at him(and if someone was rude @ him because of it... he's gonna get a scrap of hair or something off them cuz they're 100% getting cursed when he gets home).
Q: "With you and... Kenny, is it? Do the ghosts possessing her body ever interfere with your friendship, and have they tried to attack you? What sorts of things do you do for fun?"
A: (IC) "I dunno if the ghosts can interfere with it if they're the whole reason we started hanging out to begin with?" He shrugs. "Sometimes they do attack, though! They don't really like being asked to leave her body. It's a fun way to practice my magic though, having to fight them without actually maiming Kenny. She's so fun to be around; if I knew people could be like that I would have tried making friends way sooner."
"Aside from Kenny shenanigans though, I do a lot of blogging." He starts counting off hobbies on his fingers as he recites them. "I study my magic, I work on my dolls, I go shopping. Lots of stuff."
Q: Does he have any vices?
A: (OOC) Lorant is extremely particular about his appearance, to the point of causing him significant stress when people see him when he's not in perfect condition, visually(in frumpy/slightly-ill-fitting clothing, without his makeup, with his face in an 'ugly' expression). If he can't get his hair right he just won't leave the house, doesn't do sleepovers at all(i mean he's never been invited to one but he wouldn't go regardless), the nightmare scenario is being stuck somewhere overnight, especially if hospitalization is involved(what if they cut up his favorite shirt??).
If he can't control his physical appearance at the very least he feels like he has control of nothing at all. If you've seen him without his fancy clothes & makeup outside of an emergency situation it's a huge sign of his trust in you.
Also he's kind of an adrenaline junkie.
Q: What were the major turning points in his life?
A: (OOC) There was def a point in his early childhood when he transitioned from regular beloved child to weird loner kid? Probably when he first started school & just started completely failing to meet socialization milestones, then when he hit his tween years when everybody gets kinda emo anyways he started delving into his edgier hobbies.
The latest turning point was meeting Kenny, who started out as a magical project, then a 'jesus you're a fashion mess let me help you for the sake of the only eye I have left' project, but now they're like...actual friends. Which is new for both of these socially-dumb little gays. Also building a relationship with Maverick & having an adult that seems to legit care about him is a new one. Lorant's getting into people!!
Q: Anything he would never admit?
A: (OOC) Listen this boy is good at keeping his secrets. He probably commits a minor crime on the daily and has no intention of bragging about it. Also he will never admit he is anything less than competent and in control, in any situation. Even if he fucks up he'll just smile and pretend he meant to do that.
Q: how important is kenny really to lorant?? since theyre best friends "by default", how much does he actually care of her if she had an emotional issue or needed support where a typical best friend is needed?? :0
A: (OOC) Lorant...has difficulty relating to other people, there always seems to be an emotional distance between him and anyone else. Like it's not that he wouldn't care if they died, but if they continued to exist without ever talking to him again his life would be minimally effected by it?
That said, he likes Kenny a lot, for a person. She's interesting! Trying to pick apart her ghost problem has been a fun puzzle and by proximity she's just, become important to him in a way no other person ever has? She is his best friend by default because he's not really had any others but he also genuinely likes her! He's def there for her even outside of their attempts at exorcism, listens to her frequent ranting(even if he doesn't react appropriately half the time), lets her stay at his place if she doesn't want to go home or wants to skip school for whatever reason.
Q: Is there any other reason he didn't actively seek companionship besides his pursuit of various hobbies?
A: (OOC) Kinda just a slurry of mental illness lmao. He is autistic and also has empathy problems so like he doesn't really GET social conventions and then on top of that doesn't care & hasn't faced any real consequences about not caring so he doesn't really have any reason or motivation to try to fit in better & socialize,,, Also his parents are kinda emotionally neglectful & that was a p formative trauma for him so it kinda just carried over into all other interactions with other humans
He does make some progress w/ it tho through his relationships with Maverick & Kenny & by the time he leaves for college he has more of a passive interest in other people/his standards for worth-his-time are a bit more lax!!
Q: Have his parents ever caught him doing something rebellious, and if so, what happened afterwards?
A: (OOC) Oh, for sure. He kinda rebels specifically to spite them, and he knows he won't get in trouble for it because his mom will smooth things out if only for her own public perception!! She is obsessive about having a good reputation and part of that is having a perfectly well-behaved child so any time he gets caught stealing or practicing dark magic or whatever the fuck he's done she is all over it. So I mean they will yell at him but overall his actions have little consequence. At this point his parents kinda just bribe him into behaving for public events & reward him for basic shit like going to school & not being rude to his teachers or his parents' houseguests. It's how he can afford all of his expensive hobbies.
Their relationship is kinda grating & quasi-antagonistic on both sides lmao. I mean they're a family & don't hate each other, his parents probably love him and although he's not sure he's capable of love as an emotion he might miss them if they weren't there?
