Dorian is an apprentice pâtissier. He was born and raised in London, but moved to Paris to pursue his dream of becoming a master baker. He's a bit of a hedonist and an aesthete, appreciating all the sensory pleasures in life. He's extroverted and a bit self-centered, but he loves his friends and would do anything for them.

Personality · · ·
Dorian loves being in the spotlight and thrives when he's receiving a lot of attention. As an extrovert, he feels energized when he has good interactions with people around him. He is a bit self-centered though, and often struggles to put himself in others' shoes. Though Dorian has many acquaintances, these relationships are very superficial and he only has a tiny amount of friends he feels like he can truly depend on, and he would risk anything for them, even though he doesn't like to show it.
He's also very ambitious, taking on any obstacle in his way in order to achieve what he wants. He is very stubborn, which suits his ambition, but it also causes him to double down on his mistakes because doing anything else feels like a loss to him. He can also get really cocky and overestimate his abilities, which frequently embarrasses him or gets him in sticky situations.
Dorian also has an extreme desire to be beautiful and surround himself with beautiful things. This makes him deeply avoidant of bugs or anything he believes is dirty. He is also extremely picky about the media he consumes, his clothes, and also his home's decor. If he doesn't find it beautiful, he doesn't want it near him. With people, however, his standards of beauty are very different, and tend to shift depending on how he feels about someone. He sees all of his friends as beautiful and is really great at boosting their self esteem with his pep talks.
Dorian likes to act like he knows how beautiful he is, but in reality, he's deeply insecure about his appearance and tends to obsess over tiny details. His desire to make everything around him beautiful stems from this insecurity.
Ambitious
Dorian knows what his goals are, and will do everything in his power to achieve them as long as he's not directly hurting anyone in his path.
Cocky
Dorian has a tendency to overestimate himself, even when it's clear that he can't succede. His cockiness has embarrassed him time and time again and he has yet to learn his lesson.
Hedonistic
Dorian loves beautiful things and is able to see beauty in things that often go underappreciated. He's also really good at reminding his friends to take care of themselves and appreciate the beautiful things in life. He does have a tendency to overindulge, though, which can often decimate his bank account.
Attention-loving
Dorian thrives when he's given attention. It's something he craves. He spirals if he doesn't receive enough attention. This need for attention does stem from trauma, and the amount of attention he needs sometimes to even just function is definitely excessive.

Dorian is the son of two lawyers who always expected him to pursue a lucrative career purely for the money it would bring, because that's what they did. Dorian pushed against them, and when it became clear that their love was conditional and hinged on Dorian adhering to their expectations, Dorian gathered his savings and some of his belongings and left for France, determined to pursue his passion for baking.

[TW: abusive parents] Dorian's parents were affluent, and while all his material needs were met, his parents were never there for him. He was left alone most of the day, his mental health was never treated like a valid concern, and his aspirations and passions were shot down and belittled if they did not pertain to anything his parents deemed respectable or profitable. Not once did he hear his parents tell him they were proud of him. He was always a natural when it came to baking, creating the most delicious pastries and breads, and every time he tried showing off his creations, he was systematically shot down.
Ever since he was young, Dorian daydreamed about running away to Paris to pursue his passions. He found refuge in teaching himself French, reading Decadent novels, and reveling in thinking about how he'd decorate his flat. He kept baking despite being constantly discouraged.
He was always sent to advanced schools focusing on science and mathematics, as his parents pushed him to pursue engineering, but Dorian despised it all. He just barely graduated high school and was a "problem student" the whole time he was there, talking back to teachers and not paying attention in class, blatantly drawing or being on his phone. Dorian's breaking point was when his parents signed him up for a college without his input. Dorian gathered his savings and his belongings and just left after a massive argument, refusing to be controlled by his parents.
Life in Paris · · ·
Dorian made it all the way to Paris on his savings, and managed to get himself an apartment. He applied to work at a notorious bakery, but when he got the job he realized he wasn't hired to bake, but to clean the establishment and serve customers. He was hearbroken, but decided to persevere. He just had to stick around a little longer, he already got this far!
One morning, Dorian's boss caught him baking one of his own creation. Dorian got sent home on the spot, but later that day, his boss came knocking on his apartment door to apologize. He confesses that he actually sold the pastries and they were extremely popular, and that he wants to promote Dorian to pâtissier and to mentor him.
Presently, Dorian is an apprentice pâtissier. Now that he's under proper guidance, his skills are truly flourishing.
