Breath Of Dew

Demon Slayer

Born into a small rural village seemingly under the protection of a demon in exchange for a yearly gift of thanks, Mitama is no stranger to the tricks and tragedy. Selected as the offering in the year of her birth beliving that under the perpetual misery of a single child marked to be culled that the rest of the villagers could endure the hardships of common demon attacks. Knowing her fate as soon as she could understand what a sacrifice was, Mitama as the only daughter of the poor Sajina family would be spoiled with gifts on the year that her life would come to an end. Set to be eaten on December 31st, last day of the year, as per tradition Mitama would be sent to live with the demon who so dutifully protected their home from its kin in hopes that the thought of death wouldn't be so foreign the more time she would spend with her destined killer.

Settled into the lavish house where the demon presided during the bright sunlight in wait till her final day, despite not being allowed to leave Mitama would find odd company with her captor. Finding the demon rather polite and humble despite his murderous instinct to kill and devour humans strangely enough the two would develope a deep friendship that would result in Mitama even giving the demon a name, that of Mamoru meaning "defend, protect". Despite their newfound friendship, fate was fate, nothing changed the fact that Mitama would have to die at the hands of Mamoru in order to protect her village from a greater threat. Having grown into a beautiful young woman, a young man in their village by the name of Kenji Shimabukuro would catch a glimpse of Mitama after planning to kill Mamoru with his friends Jiro and Yoshito and would fall in love with her. Abandoning their plan to kill Mamoru only temporarily in order to save Mitama without her knowledge the three boys would be slaughtered as they were discovered attempting to convince Mitama to flee. Horrified by such a grotesque amount of violence despite having always known that Mamoru was a demon, a survival instinct that had once been nulled in Mitama would snap to life. Knowing that if she simply ran that she would be killed like the three boys who had tried to save her, Mitama would spend the final month of her designed life plotting her grand escape.

Knowing that her plan would selfishly end the lives of the other villagers, her parents included, yet now too fearful to allow herself to fall victim to a horrific demon, with all the celebration that could take place on the final day of the year Mitama would be able to flee into the snowy remote mountains only with the clothes on her back. Understanding that her chances of survival were slim to none but expecting herself to die by her own terms rather than those of others in the early morning when twilight rose, Mitama would run into the deepest snowstorm knowing her tracks would be covered. Before her departure she would stop at her old home to bid farewell to her parents and ask for their forgiveness. Shocked and outraged to see Mitama having stepped outside of her dwelling, hell would be sent upon her as she would be pursued by the angry villagers, demanding their sacrifice remain obidient. With the world seemingly against her, Mitama would flee until her feet could no longer carry her. With the villagers upon her, restrained and bound as they began to drag her back despite her attempts to fight back destiny seemed to shine on her for once.

Brought before Mamoru, though savagely ripping apart her forearms, desperate to survive Mitama would attempt to fight back, temporarily blinding the demon. Saved by the cold and rude Sanemi Shinazugawa after catching word that a demon was holding a village captive rather than defending it as the villagers had been told. Killing Mamoru and freeing the villagers of their captor, outrage only ensued as Mitama and by extention Sanemi wered dubbed heralds of death and were banished from the village. With no where left to go and bleeding to death through her wounds, Sanemi would carry Mitama down the mountain in hopes she would survive knowing that no help would be waiting for her if he simply left. Saved by a healer at the base of the mountain, though recovering the use of both of her arms large scars would permanently settle her skin. After being nursed back to health just as Masachika Kumeno had done with Sanemi, he would offer Mitama an introduction to a proper trainer to potentially become a demon slayer noting that her desperation to stay alive and the power that she put into doing so could be cultivated into skill.

Agreeing, after parting ways with the demon slayer Mitama would attempt to learn Water Breathing only to find herself developing Dew Breathing. Mitama would appear as one of the nearly twenty participants in the Final Selection, and is one of the six to survive. She would later become friends with Tanjiro Kamado who had helped her during the early stages of the Final Selection. Growing closest to Genya Shinazugawa after the battle with Hantengu, Mitama would be devestated by his death and mourned him for a long period of time. Mitama would aid in the fight against Muzan Kibutsuji despite having suffered major injuries in the battle against Kokushibo. Mitama would ultimately survive the final battle but lose her ability to hear completely.

- Dew Breathing is a Breathing Style derived from Water Breathing and the personal creation of Mitama. Dew Breathing depends both on the fluidity and speed of its user as dedication to ones abilities and following through with decisions are vital to fully utalizing Dew Breathing.

- Mitama has a habit of patting people on the head, whether it's an act of gratitude, cheering someone up, or simply to calm someone down.

- She's noted as being "excessively pretty" as noted by Mitsuri Kanroji who often treats Mitama as a younger sister and often asks her to refer to her as "big sister" rather than Kanroji. The two get along very well.

- While her given name Mitama 心 means "heart." and 珠 "pearl.", her family name Sajina 朝 means "morning.", 路 "a road.", and 奈 "the name of the fruit trees."

- Her descendant as shown in chapter Chapter 205 goes by the name Satsuki spelled as 颯 meaning "gale, hurricane, blast, storm, squall, gust." and 妃 meaning "princess." and is shown to have light hair; Sumihiko Kamado seems to have a crush on her despite being oblivious it it herself. Though Mitama's husband has never been confirmed, the wind related meanings suggest that Sanemi may have perhaps been Satsuki's great-grandfather despite not being grouped together on the page introducing the rest of the descendants.
