"If you're not going to learn, you're as useful as a log."
For the first ten years of his life, Queso lived out on the streets of Alamerri with his mother. The two barely had any coins to their name and struggled together through many cold winters. His mother passed away afrer ten years of this lifestyle and Queso was brought into the church as an orphan. Through the church system, he had access to an entire library of books and slowly taught himself how to read through his teenage years. The church officials were so impressed with his hunger for knowledge that they started to bring him to the castle on royal services. It was there that he met Prince George, the future king. The two talked about their love of reading and formed a respectful friendship.
Not too long after, George would become the King and would ask for Queso by name to join his royal counsel. With his knack of languages, Questo was appointed as the Royal Affairs advisor and was whisked away to neighboring kingdoms to strengthen ties for Alamerri. During these travels, Queso was subjected to the sour attitudes of rival kings. He witnessed how they spoke of, and treated, their struggling communities. Over the years, it hardened Queso and he became more and more bitter at how the rich lived. One day, his outward disdain was overheard by Brulee, the war general. There was a moment of fear in Queso before Brulee spoke up and returned his sentiments about neighboring areas. Through that small window, these two instantly bonded and became close friends. They branched off into a shared love of books, winter, fireplaces, and a quiet room. Queso would bring trinkets and gifts back to Brulee from his travels, and Brulee would always make it a point to leave books behind in Queso's quarters that he found to be interesting. There seems to be more to their story than one could see from the outside.

Of all the others in the castle, Questo feels most at ease around Brulee. The two share a fondness for quiet moments, a book, and a window view. They've been getting quite close lately.
