{ About }

Delilah is optimistic, friendly and helpful, though a bit overbearing. She tries to be all elegant and mysterious, but can't quite hide the peppy side.

{ Backstory }

Delilah lived in a cottage on an acreage, deep in the woods, with her husband of whom she loved with all her heart. As young and energetic adults, they built their humble home together and lived happily in it for many decades.
Her husband took special pride in the pond near the back of their property. When they had first arrived, it was plagued by stagnant waters and a thick algae bloom which had suffocated most of the wildlife who would have lived there. With great care, he worked the year round to bring life to the pond until it became clean, clear, and teeming with life.
From then on, he and Delilah spend their days together, sitting by the pond, admiring it's quaint beauty.

The death of her husband was not at all untimely. He lived out a good, long life, and passed peacefully late one night. Though Delilah grieved the loss of her best friend and life-long partner, she didn't lose heart. She carried on to maintain their home in his absence and--as he would have liked it--she dutifully looked after his beautiful pond.

Though her joints ached, her vision failed, and her limbs were reluctant to do as she asked of them, she tended to things just as he had done. Doing so brought her closer to him, and with that came peace of mind.
A visitor appeared one day, during one of her rounds... a strange, quiet, but well mannered creature had begun accompanying her while she took care of the property. A stray dog, perhaps...
She delighted in sharing stories and memories with her stoic but welcome guest, and over the following weeks, she had told it all about her husband, how the built their house together, the memories they shared in it... his beautiful pond...

None of these memories stayed with her once she ceased to exist among the living. Humanity abandoned her the moment her spirit abandoned the flesh and blood which had housed it.
Despite this, she still watches over her husband's pond as it's guardian spirit.

{ Origin }

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

{ Art Notes }

(Gift art is more than welcome!)

Esk are spirits/ghosts and have no mouth nor eyelids. They are completely non-corporeal. (Delilah doesn't have nostrils either!)

For commissioned artists: I love to see all the different interpretations of her and want you to draw in whatever style is most comfortable for you! But if you should be unsure about some details, here are some of my favorite interpretations of her traits:

Face

Long snout, slightly upturned, squinting eyes, mane starts at back of head.

(For chibis, straight or downward sloping snout is cute too)

Markings

Her nose and chest spots are clear shapes, but can be drawn with a fuzzy edge. Everything else is a soft gradient. Legs are the darkest, belly is a bit darker than mane and back.
Grey or off-white (blueish/purple) body color are both good. Eye and chest spots shouldn't be too saturated unless it fits the style.

Nature Feature

Three free-floating flowers, several waterlily leaves - the more and bigger, the better! Flowers are usually completely white with yellow center, but can be drawn with pink tips.

Wet Hair

It's more than fine drawing her wavy all the way, but I'd love to see more of her having wet and droopy hair outside the water.

Feet

Ducklike flat webbed toes! Can you imagine the pitter patter noise?
