Appearance

On Manta Carlos, Juliet feels very strongly that she's most noticeable for what she is rather than how she looks. She's fully human, and in a lot of ways she looks it. She's average height, with an average weight, normal clothes and a normal combination of hair and eye colors.

The truth is that, even on Manta Carlos, most people look like humans, so she doesn't stand out for it in any way. She's 5'6", with long straight black hair that falls to her waist. She has short bangs, and frequently pulls her hair back with hair clips to keep it from getting in her eyes. Her eyes themselves are a dark green.

Juliet's usual work clothes are a white blouse matched with a black pencil skirt and a black jacket. She tends to wear heels that boost her height up to 5'8" in this outfit. When she's off duty, she tends to wear things that are more comfortable, preferring natural colors and flats.

Personality

Juliet is, for lack of a better term, the mom friend. They're the part of any social circle that tends to end up being the responsible one, the one making sure everyone has a ride home when out drinking, and who people tend to come to with their problems. She's known for giving solid advice, and for being comforting without being too emotional.

Juliet's a very goal oriented person. Once she's picked a goal, she'll work towards it relentlessly, pursuing her goals with a fairly single minded focus. Unlike so many people her age, Juliet knows exactly what she wants to do and what kind of life she wants, and it's simply a matter of working towards it.

Juliet's also good at reading people, something that helps a fair bit with work. There's nothing supernatural about it, but she gets a good idea of when people are lying to her, or when they're nervous. Similarly, she's fairly good at hiding her own emotions, and tends to come across as comforting and approachable even when she's internally upset.

While Juliet is good at handling emotions, that isn't where her preference lies. Generally speaking, Juliet prefers to handle things in a more logical manner, although she's gotten good at presenting it otherwise. If a friend has had a bad breakup and wants to go running back to their asshole of a significant other, Juliet will mentally break down the situation into pros and cons, but verbally explain that while she understands that her friend might be lonely, she needs to stand up for herself and put her foot down.

She isn't a superstitious person, and doesn't (or didn't) believe in the supernatural up until the point where she found out it really was real, and sometimes does catch herself dismissing things out of hand before realizing that the rules have changed, and maybe it is possible that there's a race of humanoid aliens with snake heads.

In her spare time, Juliet enjoys browsing the internet and going to yoga classes. She also enjoys using a deck of tarot cards, although she previously didn't give much thought to the spiritual aspects. She effectively used it as a meditation aid, and has only recently begun to consider it anything more then that.

Biography

Juliet's life would be considered normal by most metrics. She was the first child born of two loving parents who had struggled to conceive. She was spoiled for several years before the arrival, eight years later, of her younger sister Minna. It was around that time that her mother officially returned to work, accepting a position with a university on the far side of the country and requiring a move. Uprooted from her friends, Juliet became focused on her new baby sister, becoming the very picture of a dedicated older sister. With both parents at work, Juliet was Minna's main authority figure from the time she was three onward, with the large age gap between the two girls not helping much at all.

Juliet never regretted their relationship, but her relatively few friends made growing up more difficult then it should have been. The move in the middle of her school years distanced Juliet from her childhood friends, and the new ones she made felt like poor imitations. Doing her best not to let it weigh on her, Juliet instead focused on deciding what she was going to do aftershe moved out - something that seemed to be growing sooner by the day.

Unlike so many of her classmates, Juliet actually did know what she wanted to do with her life. She was good with people, good with interviews, and HR seemed like an obvious choice for her, even if it wasn't the sort of thing most people wanted to get into when they grew up. When she sixteen, Juliet volunteered as a filing clerk for a small non-profit, and rather then getting a degree in human resources, Juliet opted to do a one year program before hopping into an unpaid internship. With two parents working, money wasn't as much of an issue, and Juliet opted to stay at home keeping an eye on Minna while working her way towards an actual job.

At twenty, though, Juliet decided she couldn't stay home any longer. She had a job offer with a commute that would be absolutely awful, and twenty was old enough, so she took the money she'd saved, got an apartment near her new job, and moved out, much to the horror of her younger sister.

While Juliet visited frequently the first year, those days visits continued to space out, until she got word that Minna had been enrolled in a private school. Her visits dropped to almost zero after that, and Juliet threw herself into her work. Even without a degree, she had a passion for the work which few did, and was able to work her way into a promotion even early on.

Juliet had always been a people person, the kind of person that people were quick to trust. Doing her work diligently, she was the first to volunteer for extra tasks, making herself invaluable to the company and finding her niche easily.

The next obvious step (at least in Juliet's mind) was to start dating, her position within the comfortable assured. She was at the right age, and at twenty two most people her age were just entering the workforce, giving her a leg up. Rather then hoping she'd find someone in her relatively small social circle, Juliet turned to online dating, sorting through what seemed like thousands of profiles.

Several painfully useless dates in, Juliet had the luck to meet Sándor... although not through the dating site. When one of the men she'd been supposed to meet stood her up, Sándor asked to join her table and the two hit it off. He was older--a few years out of her usual dating range--but the sort of person she liked anyway. He was smart, working as a private tutor in the city, and composed. While it was obvious he was looking for something long term, he insisted on keeping it casual, respectful of their age difference.

Truthfully, Juliet didn't think it was that much of an issue. She wasn't a student, fresh to the world - she'd already been at work for years, with a solid position. By comparison, Sándor was behind, taking jobs here and there and without any sort of a solid career, even if he spoke occasionally of his desire to take a proper teaching position. The ten years of age between them hardly seemed to make a difference, and Juliet didn't let it bother her, even if Sándor obviously did.

A bit more then a year after they began to date, Juliet's work offered her a promotion... and a move. She was to move to the far side of the country, but in exchange the company would pay for her move, her lodgings, and give her a massive raise. It seemed like it would be the end of their relationship, but Sándor thought otherwise - while it would mean losing all his students, he was perfectly willing to uproot himself and move across the country for a chance at the relationship continuing.

All of Juliet's concerned proved unfounded. Sándor found an apartment in record time, and when it became obvious that it would make more sense to live together, invited Juliet to stay with him. She did, easing into the new position, and doing her best to enjoy life in a big city.

But Juliet had her own suspicions. While she'd never suspected anything living apart, some of Sándor's behavior began to raise red flags with her. He kept a locked mini-fridge he insisted was for medication but refused to let her see. He vanished at odd hours, disappearing into the night. Every week came with more alarming behavior, and Juliet quickly became convinced that Sándor was doing drugs, if not selling them as well.

The truth, revealed in a teary attempt by Juliet to break up with him, was far stranger: Sándor was a vampire. The fridge was filled with blood packs, retrieved from a friend who worked at the blood bank and funneled blood that would have been disposed of to him instead. All of Juliet's concerns--his secrecy, that he might be running off to drink from someone else--were answered in short order. He even revealed--rather embarrassed as he did--that he'd been making plans to tell her over their second anniversary.

Despite the rocky start to living together, the reveal was not half as big a deal as Sándor clearly expected it to be. He wasn't cheating. He wasn't doing anything unsafe. The age gap was bigger, but it didn't matter quite as much - they were both adults, and he'd gone out of his way to take things slow and at her pace.

Not long after their two year anniversary, Sándor proposed threefold. He didn't just ask Juliet to marry him - he also invited her to join him as a vampire when she was older, refusing to even consider it until she was thirty. He also revealed the existence of an island where vampires and other supernatural creatures lived openly - and that he'd been invited to teach at the school there. It would mean giving up her job, a significant blow for Juliet, but the prospect of it - of a fantasy island where he could live without hiding - was enough to make her give it a chance.

Juliet told her family she was moving to Europe, promised to visit, and headed off to Manta Carlos.

Extra Info

Juliet strongly dislikes her first name. She feels that people should only be named after people if those people are good role models, and she doesn't think a thirteen year old who killed herself over teenage puppy love is a good one. She's talked about changing her name quite a bit, but can never decide on something better. Occasionally has periods of insisting everyone call her something else (often 'Julie' or 'Julia') to see how it feels.
