Physical Appearance

• Medium-length black hair that turns white in light from outside the Realm of the Dead
• Red eyes (blue in life)
• Very tall in height
• Physically fit with a somewhat slender yet strong build
• Very pale skin
• 2 piercings per ear

His adult form closely resembles his younger brother in life when he grew to be an adult. His other form that he takes when extremely vulnerable is that of his child self when he was killed. He appears as a 9 year old boy with short, dark brown hair.

Clothing Style

Kain dresses somewhat simply in nothing but black, white, and silver. He frequently wears a black sleeveless shirt and black pants with black reinforced boots and a black long coat with silver trim. He wears two belts around his waist that he sometimes uses to hold his whip, and two belts across his chest to hold his scythe. The shoulders and upper arms of the coat have silver trim, and the cuffs on the sleeves are white with silver cross cufflinks (not typical crucifix crosses, but evenly measured + crosses). The cuff on his right sleeve has been torn and the cufflink stolen, which upsets him greatly. He also wears black gloves with the symbol of Flipside on the backs of the hands. Around his neck he wears a cross necklace that resembles his cufflinks (again + crosses, not crucifixes). His earrings are silver.

When in his other form that is of his child self, he wears a long sleeved red and black striped shirt and black sleep pants. He wears no shoes or footwear, since when he died he had recently gotten out of bed.

Personality

Kain is a volatile and strongly emotional Eksel who puts up a charismatic facade to hide his insecurities. His outward personality he creates for public display is one that appears highly eloquent, cunning, and charmingly cruel. He has a very sadistic nature and is incredibly vindictive, and he tends to be overly-dramatic about his actions and decisions. His facade only tends to falter when he is angered, and he has a rather immature habit of throwing loud and murderous tantrums when slighted or upset. Kain has a hard time muting any of his feelings, whether they are positive or negative, and he constantly worries about others perceiving him as weak or vulnerable. This can cause him to jump to conclusions in a rather paranoid manner and generally be defensive when others interact with him in ways he doesn't expect or approve of. He obsesses over the idea of appearing mature and treated with respect, and this is likely because his life was cut short as a child and he never had the opportunity to become an adult on his own terms.

When around others he trusts, Kain is much more mellow and reasonable, and he tends to be much kinder to children in general. He can be rather touchy about anything remotely "unfair" to him or to other children, especially if it involves people who take on oppressive "adult-like" figures who throw their authority around. Kain is very quick to defy such people, and he is very protective of the children he encounters, even if they don't necessarily get along with him or like him. He tends to relate to children more than adults since he died as a child and never really learned to "grow up" on his own, and he is more than willing to stand toe-to-toe with anyone antagonizing other children since he has the power to do so. When around his adult friends, such as Vanessa and Criss, Kain is very affectionate and loyal to them, to the point where they might consider him to have a rather childlike naivety and admiration toward them. Kain will do anything for his friends and trusts them unconditionally, yet if he ever perceives any kind of betrayal he will have a very hard time forgiving them. He then struggles between wanting to viciously punish them as he does for all his enemies and not wanting to hurt them since he still cares for them, so he ends up getting stuck in a violent tantrum. He prefers to keep his friends close and keep them out of his conflicts if possible, and he often feels like he wants to take care of them and make sure they have nothing to worry about.

Weaknesses

• Has a rather fragile ego and is extremely vindictive to traitors
• Under his violent exterior is a vulnerable, sensitive, child-like mentality who's afraid to be alone

Backstory

Kain was born as Cain Freeman in an unknown town somewhere in Europe. He is uncertain of the exact location and he doesn't quite remember the name either anymore. His parents forbade him from leaving the picket fence boundaries of their home, and he grew up while his parents practiced some type of possibly-satanic rituals. After his younger brother was born, his parents told Kain he was born to kill his brother and "appeased their lord." Kain believed it since it was the only thing he knew, and although he didn't have anything against his brother at the time he was planning to carry out his parents' will unquestioningly. However, the day Kain was meant to kill his brother, he ended up staying up all night nervously and he set up the ritual on his own while their parents are asleep. He carried his sleeping younger brother to the ritual setup and went over what he needed to do while trying to mentally prepare himself for killing him. However, when he finally worked up the courage to actually do it, an Eksel that he and his brother had been hearing for the past few days appeared and killed Kain to take his soul.

Kain woke up in the Waking Range, angry and confused after the elder Eksel wandering there explained the situation to him. He spent most of his time in Genatec watching his brother grow up. At some point, Kain was drawn into Flipside by the clock tower and was taken prisoner by an Eksel posing as a minister there. Kain met Criss and Vanessa after a few years, and Criss allowed him to look into the mortal realm. He found his brother living a relatively happy life, and he became enraged by it to the point where he could think of nothing else. He vainly tried to escape Flipside and later begged Criss to kill his brother until he finally agreed to save Kain's remaining sanity. Kain requested that Criss keep the soul for himself and then they along with Vanessa would leave Flipside at the same time and be born mortal together.

Kain has since channeled his bitterness and anger and become a powerful Eksel and taken on an adult form. He has overthrown the minister and his followers, and he now leads a division of forces across the river that are in constant conflict with the minister and his remaining forces. Since no one can seem to figure out how to escape Flipside, Kain's side has started digging a huge hole called the Quarry with the intent to break the barrier of the pocket dimension. No one is certain if this will actually work, but Kain's rage has grown so much that no one from his side dares oppose him.
