About

HXiiXmT.png

Teddy is a courier that was shot in the head during a botched delivery of a platinum poker chip to Mr. House. After being buried in a shallow grave and left for dead, she is patched up by Doc Mitchell, who saves her life, but none of her memories. She sets off to find Benny Gecko, the man who attempted to take her life, and get answers for what happened to her and why.

While her inevitable brain damage makes her act irrationally and impulsively at times, Teddy is typically very rational, able to see past bias and examine a situation from all angles. She is compassionate and sensitive, but is not afraid to speak frankly. She uses a home-made eyepatch to ease her depth-perception issues and has a cybernetic spine that makes her quite formidable in close-quarter combat. Teddy is easily recognizeable by her gray-blue hair, colored to match her Securitron best-friend, Yes Man.

After the dust had settled around the Mojave, Teddy pursues a relationship with Benny, having understood his motivation and accepted his (many, and profuse) apologies for his botched assassination. The two of them work together as members of the newly-appointed New Vegas Council. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming at the Tops' pool with her significant-other Benny, or scouting for old world holotapes of old movies and musicals with Yes Man! Teddy also frequents the Divide and Zion to visit her friends and set up trade routes, with the help of some of her companions. A social butterfly by nature, she enjoys making new friends and never hesitates to direct them towards the Tops for a rest if they need it!

All things considered, Teddy is easy to please. If you're non-hostile, she'll hear you out if she thinks it beneficial. Teddy enjoys "The Game" of Mojave politics and is always eager to learn a new perspective. When traveling with companions, Teddy is easy-going and is always up for fetch-quests and errands; no task is too small! She is seldom ever seen without Yes Man or Benny by her side, dragging them along on all of her Mojave adventures!

Story

Pre-Game

While Teddy doesn't personally remember the details of her past, she was originally from California, she lived in a coastal town and led a life that was dominated by her family's work. With altercation after altercation taking place, she decided to leave and start her life anew somewhere far away from where she'd grown up. She was in a bar when on the radio, she heard a job call for a package courier job in the Mojave, with delivery leading her to fabulous New Vegas. Slamming a wad of NCR dollars on the counter, she hurried home, grabbed her scant belongings and began her journey to a job that would change her life, for better or worse.

Events of Fallout: New Vegas

Nothing prepared her for how bright Goodsprings was in the mornings. Blue skies and the ambient sounds of a small town made her feel at home, but she couldn't help but be fascinated with the strange events that unfolded around her. She was shot by some dandy in an obnoxious suit, buried by Great Khans, and saved by a Securitron and an old vault-dweller? What a wild west, indeed! The mystery man that shot her seemed to be on a mission, and if he was killing people over it, Teddy knew it had to be high-stakes. And she wanted in! But where in the world was she going to find people as crazy as her that wanted to tag along?

As it turned out, friends in the Mojave are in no short supply. Despite the world being a wasteland, a little kindness took Teddy a long way. She befriended mutants, nightkin, protectrons, ghouls and humans across all factions, and some of them even laid down their lives to protect her (and she them). Part of her was glad she didn't have her past memories; she had so much love and light in her life now, the platnium chip and the lights of New Vegas still seemed so far away to her.

Finding Benny at the Tops didn't feel real. It felt like everything she'd done over the past... however long was supposed to be coming to an end. This was supposed to be the climactic crescendo confrontation she'd been dreaming of, and it felt almost dream-like. The man who shot her was in fact, just a man, and not some mythic god of death that singled her out for some kind of higher purpose other than the package she was carrying. Staring at his checkered back as she slowly approached him, she felt at peace. It was all going to be easy from here. She'd survived Black Mountain, Brotherhood Bunkers, done dealings with Red Lucy, beheaded Legion Centurions... all to get where she was right now.

"Hello! The one everyone saw go in the Lucky 38, that was you? Oh shit." Benny's guards tensed, but the Chairman remained calm. He was impressed. And she was outnumbered. She smiled and nodded her head, shrugging her shoulders. "I'm the one!" She cooed, as though it wasn't a big deal that she somehow crawled out of a grave and dragged herself all the way here... and looked pretty good doing it, too.

"So, you're Benny? My name is Teddy, and I've been looking everywhere for you." The courier put her hands on her hips and let out a huff, as though scolding him. Benny couldn't help but be a bit taken aback by how lax she was. Didn't she know what her being here meant? It meant she was a living wildcard in this game, instead of a dead joker. He was supposed to be the only wildcard in this play.

"When you shot me, you ran off so fast I never got your name. But I'm sure you'll make it up to me, right?" She asked, taking a step closer to him; this time, he tensed up, and he knew she saw it because of the way the corner of her mouth quirked up. His guards drew their weapons, but wouldn't attack unless Benny told them to. "You making a pass at me, sister? 'Cause I'm outta your league." He coudn't remember the last time he'd lied so badly. He liked her, wanted to take her up to his suite and make it up to her.

"Are you? Looks like we're running in the same league to me. Aren't you interested in hearing about how I can sweeten your pot?" She asked, her amused smirk growing as the eyebrow just below a gnarly scar on her head raised. The nerve of this one! Benny liked it. It wasn't every day people told him how they really felt. He could blow her brains out right here, to the tune of a slot machine hitting a jackpot. He'd catch her and lay her down, act like she fainted or something. It would be very clean... hell, it would have to be after his apparent slop-job the first time around.

Post-Game

As it turned out, there was plenty Teddy could do to better the Chairman's plans. After the events of Hoover Dam, Teddy and Benny began to date, and established a council of faction representatives after Mr. House's death in response to the future of New Vegas. Teddy did not want complete and total power over the city and elected to spread power out equally between Vegas' resident factions. Each faction has a representative that meets with the others at the Lucky 38 bi-weekly.

Council member factions include the Kings, the Followers of the Apocalypse, the Chairmen, the White Gloves, and the Omertas. NCR, Brotherhood and Legion have no influence over the strip, the latter being squashed at the battle of Hoover Dam, and the other two warned to keep their distance unless for peaceful trading or commerce.

Teddy represents herself under the Courier faction, aided by Yes Man and her companions. The goal of the council is to divide power equally amongst Freeside and New Vegas inhabitants with priorities such as trade, safety, defense, healthcare, and so on. She is typically wrapped up with this in her day-to-day, and any time that she's not striving to make Vegas bigger and better, she can be seen hanging out with Benny, Yes Man, or any of her other loved ones!

Trivia

tmJRHjh.png
  • Teddy cannot cook; her hunger is at the mercy of her companions! She claims Yes Man makes the best BLAMCO Mac and Cheese, but Yes Man insists that he simply follows the directions on the box. Benny has years of culinary recipes that were passed down to him from the Bootriders, so he’s surprisingly quite the chef!
  • She dyes her hair gray-blue to match the colors of Securitrons, making her easy to distinguish in combat and among allies across the Mojave. While hairdye isn't commonplace in the wasteland, Teddy makes her own with anything from old crayons, food coloring, whatever she can find!
  • Teddy loves scavenging for old-world holotapes, specifically musicals and radio shows! She has Yes Man play them for her when they travel together. If Benny is with them, he'll occasionally swing and twirl Teddy around to the tune of an old world song.
  • Once the Hoover Dam conflict is over, she can usually be found hanging around the Tops, especially by the pool! She loves to swim, and Benny doesn't mind hanging around and grilling for her (and watching her long legs)!
  • The courier has an affinity for anything brahmin-patterned! She loves wearing brahmin-skin clothing and loves to pet them on her travels. Despite her love for treating herself, Teddy is always thinking of her companions and friends; she frequently brings presents to her loved ones, no matter where she goes!
  • After the Big MT, Teddy got her spine replaced; it dramatically helped her phyiscal prowess and ability to take damage, but she still suffers affects from her head wounds. Every now and then, she returns to the Sink to get herself checked up on.
  • Nobody ever really uses her full name, and she couldn't remember her name before she'd been shot. "One of the things that never came back," as she put it. Teddy was a chosen name for herself, and Lucky just stuck becuase of all of the "Lucky you!"'s she got after explaining her story about being shot in the head and living. Folks mostly call her Teddy, Ted, or Courier Teddy; Benny's confidantes at the tops sometimes teasingly call her Teddy Tops, a joke referencing how Benny is super whipped for her and how (they assume) Mojave politics aren't the only thing Teddy dominates in!
  • Her checkered ascot is a strip of fabric that she took from Benny's suit as a token of their friendship (which would eventually become romantic). She is most often seen wearing it around her neck like an ascot, but she also wears it in her hair, around her wrist, or any number of ways. It is one of her most cherished possessions.

Relationships

UjaJNt7.png
Benny Gecko [ Significant Other ]

Benny and Teddy begin to date after she visits the Divide, just before the Hoover Dam conflict. They work together on the New Vegas strip in hopes of making it a powerful independent power in the Mojave. When together, they are playful, affectionate and sarcastic with one another, enjoying banter and (lots) of corny PDA! After the Big MT and the battle of Hoover Dam, sometimes Teddy has a hard time learning how to relax. Thankfully, Benny makes sure she eats and takes care of her, making her laugh and taking her out for nights on the town in their town!

eQPeyhq.png
Yes Man [ Best Friend ]

The two became fast friends and she seldom ever goes anywhere without him, whether he's in a Securitron body or within her pip-boy! She seeks his council for nearly everything and praises his cooking; however, according to Yes Man, he simply follows the directions on the side of the box. Teddy feels a kinship with Yes Man due to her own "inability to say no", but she reckons the two of them can work on that together, as best friends!

3eWUw5Y.png
Ulysses [ Companion + Advisor ]

The Divide changed Teddy. It made her think about everything in an entirely new light. Speaking with Ulysses broke her heart, but she understood his pain and his rage. While he seldom ever leaves his home, she comes to visit him and brings him goodies from the Mojave as tribute for his guidance and wisdom. They have a very positive relationship!

gCpg05w.png
Follows-Chalk [ Friend + Faction Ally ]

Follows-Chalk was the first Dead Horse Teddy met in Zion, and as he gave her a tour of the beautiful valley, they bonded. Their shared optimism and all of Teddy's Mojave stories made for hours of conversation, and once the Hoover Dam conflict is resolved, Teddy makes good on her promise to establish trade to and from Zion, and personally escorts Chalk to the Mojave and shows him around!

lr63pl6.png
Lily Bowen [ Family + Maternal Figure ]

Lily and Teddy met in Jacobstown, and Teddy instantly felt connected to Lily. She loves hearing about her grandkids and is honored that Lily considers her one of her own. Lily is like the (grand)mother she doesn't remember, and the courier would do anything to protect her. When Teddy and Benny start dating, Lily gives Benny a warning not to hurt Teddy, or there will be a punishment in order... Nightkin style!

Wpnozbu.png
Veronica Santangelo [ Best Friend + Faction Ally ]

Veronica was Teddy's second companion, and is one of her best friends. She always knows how to make Teddy laugh and make light of a shitty situation, and the two greatly enjoy talking about technology together! While Teddy doesn't agree with the Brotherhood, she tries to help Veronica find her place in the world as she looks for her own.

qbUcVNS.png
Arcade Gannon [ Friend + Faction Ally ]

Teddy and Arcade's sarcastic banter make them an ideal match as companions. However, Arcade isn't too keen on constantly watching Teddy get the crap beat out of her! He was a big help to her after she came back from Big MT, and he likes that he can be blunt with her and she won't take it personally, and gives it right back to him.

a9q3r31.png

Teddy being best friends with Veronica made their friendship effortless. She knew Christine was the girl that Veronica fancied and Teddy swore to keep her safe during her time at the 'Madre, for Veronica if nothing else. The courier respects Christine's decision to stay behind at the casino, but extends her an invite to New Vegas that she can cash in anytime.

ai70SrU.png
Marcus [ Friend + Faction Ally ]

As soon as Teddy walked into Jacobstown and was met with Marcus' friendly attitude and calm demeanor, she felt right at home. She always does her best to help out at Jacobstown and make sure they are taken care of, no matter what. She and Marcus speak frequently about the state of the world and advises her on how her political choices will affect his people.

J9ueJj8.png
Craig Boone [ Friend + Faction Ally ]

Boone was Teddy's first traveling partner on her journey, and while their personalities are quiet opposite, the courier is never put off by her friend's silence. Teddy tries her best not to irritate Boone when they travel together and she appreciates Boone's loyalty to her, even with her differeing opinoins about the NCR.

iK9C0OV.png
Muggy [ Friend + Faction Ally ]

Muggy might not have all of the convenient functionality as Yes Man, but the courier loves him all the same. She leaves him at the Sink until after the Hoover Dam conflict is over, then goes out to get him and bring him to the Lucky 38, where there are mugs and coffee machines! Horray!

3bwzfeq.png
Waking Cloud [ Maternal Figure + Faction Ally ]

Waking Cloud is one of the primary sources of calm in Teddy's very turbulent life. The courier travels to Zion to meet with her regularly and brings treasures and remedies from her travels to aid the Sorrows and Dead Horses. She tries to teach Teddy how to be a bit more stealthy, but the poor courier may just be beyond even her capable guidance!

nPd3XWL.png
Dog and God [ Friend ]

Teddy loves nightkin, and naturally wanted to help God take control and heal from Elijah's conditioning of Dog. At the end of their journey together, Teddy chooses to let them both live and fuse their personalities so that they may begin again. Teddy sends scouts out to look for him to check up on him, and thinks of him constantly.

CA53sIp.png
Raul Tejada [ Friend ]

Teddy felt instant kinship with Raul, since both of them enjoy sarcasm and tinkering with just about anything they can find. She appreciates his dry sense of humor, and doesn't travel with him a lot because she wants him to get rest and find at least a little peace! He is an old man after all! But she always makes sure he's taken care of, whether he prefers to be at his shack, or in New Vegas with her.

Yp8FZ8r.png
Dr. Dala [ Friend + Faction Ally]

A lobotomite named after her favorite thing? It must be Dala's lucky day! She affectionately calls Teddy her "Teddy Bear" and the courier can't help but find her... quirks to be amusing. Teddy wasn't the biggest fan of the Big MT while she was trapped there, but she does return now and then to do some breathing exercises for one of her favorite doctors.

nMQSPHk.png
Joshua Graham [ Friend + Faction Ally]

Because of her positive relationships with Follows-Chalk and Waking Cloud, Teddy is naturally on positive terms with the ex-legate as well. She stopped him from exterminating the White-Legs and is glad to see him retire his desire for conflict and look inward to find peace. She asks him about Legion strategies prior to the Hoover Dam conflict and he helps her as much as he can. Together, they establish trade routes from Zion to New Vegas.

xquCZFE.png
Rose of Sharon Cassidy [ Friend + Faction Ally]

Cass is always able to give Teddy a good laugh. Pragmatic and much more critical of the factions in their world than most, the courier values her (sometimes rude) honesty and helps her revive her caravan business, stretching it throughout the Mojave and even to places like Zion and the Divide. Boone can often be found working with her caravaneers, aiding them with protection. Ironically, the two don't get along very well, as Boone's silence often puts Cass off.

Personal Quest I: Hello Teddy!

Teddy can be found first via random encounter in the Mojave. Assuming the Courier does not immediately become hostile, she will give the player her first personal mission, “Hello, Teddy!”. She asks the Courier to help her find a box of “important findings” that one of her Mojave-roaming Securitrons stashed for her somewhere. If the Courier has Perception of 7+, or the Scrounger perk, they will be able to find it marked on their map, with dialogue options:

(Skill Check, general location marked on map):
  • “Something like that might be in this area. Let’s take a look.”
(Perception Check):
  • “I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something that before. I’ll take you to it.”
(Failed skill/perk check):
  • “I’ll let you know if I come across it.”
(Disinterested, refuses mission):
  • “I don’t have time for this right now.”
When the Courier and Teddy arrive at the general location, Teddy will confirm this is the general area via a radio transmission from her pip-boy. Ambient dialogue for Teddy in this area includes:

  • “I can’t believe I lost such an important package…… again.”
  • “Shouldn’t have tested out this new software from so far away…”
  • “‘Yes was so confident this was gonna work!”
Upon finding the package, she will award the player with a generous amount of caps and quickly confiscate the box. The player can demand to see its contents for a small Karma loss, or simply offer to give it to her. If the player surrenders it to her without prying, Teddy opens the box and takes out an old-world musical holotape and gives it to the Courier.

“(Sincere) Here you go. For your troubles. (Playful) And some caps for hush money. I’m going to get these back home, but you can have that one; it’s a duplicate for me, but it swings, I promise! Don’t be a stranger now!”

The quest concludes with a roaming Securitron appearing at her side to escort her back to New Vegas, where she can be found at the Tops and available to recruit. If the Courier plays the holotape, it is an old-world recording of “Put On Your Sunday Clothes”.

Personal Quest II: He Knows I Love Him (Too Much)

For her second quest, one can find her missing from the poolside and in she and Benny’s shared suite. Upon speaking with her, she will confess that she can’t find the Chairman anywhere. A speech check of 75 or high strip affinity will allow Teddy to accept the Courier’s help right away. If speech check is failed, one will have to cycle through dialogue to console her before help can be offered, and the quest “He Knows I Love Him (Too Much)” will activate. The Courier may respond:

(Skill check/fame - Good Karma)
  • “Don’t worry, I’m sure he’s around. Let’s get to looking for him.
(Skill check/fame - Bad Karma)
  • “You’re seriously surprised he’s missing? He really did blow out your brains.”
Teddy expresses concern over Benny, but accepts the Courier’s insult with no karma loss to the player. She becomes much more vocal about her own personal politics, noting the failures of the NCR, House and Legion to the Courier and explaining that she believes Vegas should belong to its people, and as head of one of the Strip casinos, Benny is an important part of that. Some dialogue possibilities:

(Courier is aligned with the NCR) “The NCR would be good for Vegas. They have done a lot for California.”
  • (Trying to be polite, slightly irritated) “Yeah, well this isn’t California. How many times have you had to clean up NCR’s mess? We’re just mailmen. And since when has doing things like before the bombs fell ever been a good move?
(Courier is aligned with the Legion) “Caesar would make Vegas his Rome. It would be untouchable to our enemies.”
  • (Openly disgusted) “How about this: we find Benny, and then when we’re done with that, we can discuss it at the Tops penthouse. Hope you enjoy the view from upside-down, since I’ll be dangling you off of the balcony by your fucking ankles.”
(Courier is aligned with Mr. House) “Why shouldn’t New Vegas stay in House’s control? He’s the one that cleaned it up.”
  • (Dry laugh, pause) “Oh, wait, you’re not joking. (Hums thoughtfully) Not that I don’t appreciate a billionaire who refuses to do anything outside of his own personal interests, but… (Quiet laughter) has he given you his space spiel yet? I shouldn’t have to elaborate any further, really.”

Teddy marks several locations on the Courier’s map to try and find Benny. After traveling to a few of them with little success, Teddy begins to get rather shaken. The Courier can comfort her, or make another quip about Benny’s loyalty, and reminds the Courier that they are not obligated to help her look for him. The following dialogue may ensue:

“Why are you sticking your neck out for a guy who shot you in the head? He went after every courier that he thought might have the chip.”
  • (Worried, frustrated) “He’s not loyal, I get it. And I get why you might hate him, I don’t have any qualms with that. You can leave anytime you want, I’m not going to judge you.”
“You seem to care a lot about Benny.”
  • (Wary, distracted - Courier did not speak to Benny before freeing him at the Fort) “Awfully curious, huh? Yeah, you’re right. I do… if he was just some bandit or fiend that shot me over some petty caps, I’dve blown his head off. But the things at play here… he’s right, there’s too much at stake. We should talk about that later, though.
  • (Wary, distracted - Courier spoke to Benny before freeing him at the Fort) “We both know why he did what he did. Being angry isn’t my style, but this isn’t even about just one person. The Strip is my home now, hell, the whole Mojave. It’s home to a lot of people. And I care about what happens to it. House, Caesar, NCR… they’re bad news. I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I’m going to fight for my home, and my family. I’d like you to be a part of that.”
  • (Shy, reluctant) “I… guess you could say that. I won’t give you RAD damage with my schmooz, but… he makes me laugh. (Vulnerable) I don’t think there’s anything more romantic than that. (Joking, trying to hide weight of confession) If there is, Benny doesn’t know it. But that’s okay, I love’im all the same. (Dry, genuine) Even after I run him over with Yes Man’s tire for making me fuss over him so much.”
“Benny’s… savvy. I’m sure he’ll come around.” (+Karma)
  • (Relieved) “I hope so. Thank you for doing this for me. Means a lot that you’d personally see to something so silly.”

Eventually, the Courier and Teddy will find Benny at the Vikki and Vance Casino. Benny will notice Teddy and the Courier as soon as they walk in, and mutter a guilty “Oh shit.” The Courier can confront Benny by:

“What are you doing here? Teddy’s been looking for you.”
  • (Sheepish) “Oh, Teddy-bear… and my second favorite mailman! Sheesh, you didn’t have to come lookin’ for little old me… I don’t know what it may look like, baby, but if you’re mad, it’s not how it looks. Speaking of looking, you look prettier than a diamond flush, by the way.”
“I’m getting really tired of having to hunt you down, Benny.”
  • (Nervous laughter) “I know, I know. I look like a nightstalker caught in a gecko nest. Listen, I ain’t… well, I was a shuckster. A real big one. But I promise this ain’t even business. It’s… (Fluster? Embarrassment) something I was tryin’ to set up for you.
“So… you were trying to do something nice? For someone else?”
  • “Yes Man said there’d be some swinging Vikki and Vance holotapes here, and I thought I’d pick ‘em up and surprise you with them. Turns out I ain’t quite as good with these ‘bots as you are, Teddy-bear. (Flirtatious) Should’a just made this a day trip… (Seductive, corny) with lots of pit-stops.”
Teddy expresses her relief and excitement to see that Benny is okay, and berates him for running off. Teddy successfully copies the holotapes with the help of Primm Slim and offers to do the same for the Courier for all of their help. The Courier can tease or berate Teddy for liking Benny, to which she’ll once again jest-fully agree, and remark about making sure he doesn’t run off again. Benny will personally thank the Courier for their help, and offer them a permanent 15% discount at the Tops (Food, drink, gambling).

Perks and Rewards

After finishing her first companion quest, Teddy will be recruitable as a companion. She will give the courier her perk, “Snuggle Up”. This perk gives the Courier additional head-shot resistance, and Teddy will absorb 3% of all damage the Courier takes if she is instructed to stay at close range to the player.

Upon successfully finishing her second companion quest, Teddy will have max affinity points with the Courier, and will gift them with strip fame and an on-call Securitron protection module for their pip-boy (similar to NCR radio). Teddy can be recruited (or dismissed) at the Tops any time and will gladly travel with the Courier at their request. Her perk, “Snuggle Up”, has now been increased to 7% damage-absorption.
