Bee woop, full disclaimer I do not study microbiology or pathology or anything like that (I took graphic design in HS lmao) everything is second hand from a reliable source I swear

The blob parasite is believed  to have been frozen & eventually thawed out, while not many of the blob survived some were able to. This small population would contaminate a near by water source. For unknown reasons the carnivorous population would begain to display strange behaviors & often grew extra limbs. This would on sooner extend to the omnivores, tho their symptoms tended to be more mild.

In an effort to contain the blob the infection zone was to be closed off from the rest of the world. Unfortunately for the local styler population the quarantine was a little too late & some of the blob had gotten into the water supply 

The blob would mutate it's host to better suit it, often letting the host maintain control or even not displaying a separate conscious at all. Normally the host has control over all muscle functions & may exhibit heightened senses & strength, however they would be either omnivorous or exclusively carnivorous(with varing effects on behavior). The main body of the blob attaches to the spine & wraps it's way up to the brain. someone who is still developing (typically children to teens) is more likely to contract it but it is still very much possible for adults & seniors to get the blob too.

Appearance

They have hoofed feet & long, floppy ears. They generally have from a tooth to a full jawset on their necks/shoulder & on their head/foreheads. They have a second set of eyes on the back of their heads & what is essentially a second behind. There is a visible scar where the parasite latches on in the body & they can grow extra limbs & have scars in other places depending on the condition the hosts body is in (ex if the hosts hand gets chopped off the blob would extend to that spot & or grow a new one. Or if the ingery is traumatic enough but the body part is still there/functional it may still grow extra limbs.) It cannot replace the hosts face, tho
