Profile
Finch
Sweet and adventurous, Finch is a gray fox-dragon hyrbid, who, like the rest of her kind, has supernatural abilities. Foxdragons are a rare hybrid on planet earth, as the last of the dragons are currently dying out, and foxes have been their enemies for hundreds of years. Finch isn't quite the last of her kind, but she hasn't found any other foxdragons.
Foxdragons have the cleverness of foxes as well as the unique supernatural and often clairvoyant gifts of dragons. Their abilities vary depending on which type of dragon they have as a parent. In Finch's case, she had a furred dragon as a father. He was known for his gift of clairaudience ("psychic hearing") and could speak with paranormal beings, like ghosts, cryptids, and aliens.
Finch isn't entirely in tune with her gifts yet, so she can't communicate with entities as well as her father could. She is trying very hard at this, but her skills are fuzzy at best. After the death of her best friend when she was a child, it has been her main goal to be able to communicate with him. Not only does she miss him terribly, but she also feels there's something he wishes to tell her. Something important about her own gifts and her place in the world.
Dragons can live for thousands of years, and foxes only a fraction of that. It is both a blessing and a curse that Finch's lifespan sits on the dragon side of things.
Finch has unique star markings on her fur, which her parents said were given to her by the universe itself. She was nicknamed after the finch, a songbird that her parents often heard before their interspecies war began. Even as a small child, Finch liked to sing, and her voice reminded them of a bird. Once the war started, the finches stopped singing as frequently.
It's been hard for Finch to find a place where she belongs, since she doesn't fit in with dragons or foxes. Because of her desire to find a home where she belongs, she has become something of a wanderer, traveling from place to place and never finding anywhere to settle down. She hopes to one day find antoher foxdragon.
Finch is young at heart and loves to learn about the world around her. Like her dragon father, she loves to collect items she finds interesting. One of her favorite things to learn about is ghosts, cryptids, and the paranormal, as she believes the more she knows about them the better she'll be able to develop her gifts. Finch loves and resonates with music. It speaks to her soul. She's always singing and humming.

Personality
Friendly
Finch loves meeting new people! She doesn't have a shred of social anxiety and will be herself even around strangers. Years of traveling from place to place have given her good people skills. She believes everyone has a story to tell, and she loves hearing them!
Sweet
Even though she's been through some hard things, Finch remains a sweet and kind person. If someone seems upset, even if she has never talked to them before, she will always go up and ask them if they're okay and if they need anything. She exudes love and joy and happiness.
World-Weary
Finch has been through a lot, and because of that, she is no longer the trusting, naive person she once was. She is still open to new expiriences and has retained her kindness, but now she is more streetwise. Perhaps she tries to distract herself from her trauma by having as much fun as she can.
Insecure
Despite her apparent confidence, Finch is secretly insecure. She is not completely happy with herself and is always trying to improve. She often second-guesses herself and compares herself to others.
Adventurous
Whether she's flying high in the sky, swimming in the sea, or climbing trees in the woods, Finch will never turn down an adventure. She's active, trying new things and exploring. If she comes to a new place, the first thing she does is have a look around to see if there's anything fun.
Curious
Being an explorer often comes with a love of learning, which Finch definitely has. She loves to ask questions, and she loves to read, especially about her favorite subjects: art, music, and the paranormal.
Special Abilities
Elements Ribbons
Got them from here.
Art
This isn't really a "special ability", but Finch loves to draw and make art! She keeps a sketchbook and a jounal, often drawing her strange dreams and writing down the messages she hears. She is a good artist and loves to draw aliens and ghosts. Her favorite supplies are pens and alcohol-based markers.
Clairaudience
Clairaudience means, "psychic hearing." People with this gift can receive messages from the universe and from deceased loved ones by hearing that which would be inaudible to others. Finch inherited this gift from her dragon father, but she has yet to develop it. Often, she'll just hear a high pitched ringing in her ears, and she'll know there's a spirit present. She will sometimes pick up on things in dreams, but the messages are always hard to understand...
Dreamwalking
Finch is a dreamwalker, meaning her dreams are very vivid and often full of messages she needs to decode. She can often control her own dreams via lucid dreaming and can visit other people's dreams. Occasionally she suffers from sleep paralysis.
Flight
Like her dragon father, Finch has wings which allow her to fly. Unlike her father, though, Finch has bird wings. Her parents didn't know where the bird wings came from, but it led them to believe she is part bird. Her flight skills are quite good. She can fly long distances, but does get tired easily.
Electricity
Once in a great while, if she's feeling a very powerful emotion, Finch can actually disturb lights. Emotions such as anger, fear, or extreme happiness can make the lights blink or go out. Finch can even cause television sets to malfunction and "go staicky". This ability is involuntary. She cannot control electricity at will, but believes it has something to do with her powers.

Story
Finch grew up in the forests of the northeastern United States. Her father was a dragon with psychic gifts, and her mother was a gray fox. She was given the birth name "Tayna" but later nicknamed Finch, since she often sang. She grew up in a cottage, and her childhood was a happy time, filled with friends and summers and trips to the nearby pond.
From an early age, she was told about her psychic gifts and how necessary it was for her to develop them, however, she preferred playing in the woods.
i think you should come live with me, and we can be pirates
One morning, Finch was reading by the pond's sandy edge, when she hear a noise a the tree above her. She looked up, and there was a young fox her age sitting in the branches. The boy said he was an explorer and that he didn't have anyone to explore with. Finch told him they could be explorers together. She introduced herself. He told her his name was Malachi, but he hated that name, and people often called him Mal. From that day forward, they became great friends.
As the years went by, Finch grew into a kind and generous young girl. Both twelve years old, she and her friend Mal spent a lot of time exploring and playing pirates or pretending to be knights. They were partners in crime, always getting into trouble. When Finch told him about her paranormal gifts, they became ghost hunters together. He was a good and loyal friend, very brave but often foolish.
it's a war out there
But then, after a sly fox stole a precious magical artifact from an elder dragon in a land far away, a great rivalry broke out between foxes and dragons. Things were very hard for Finch after that. Her parents' marriage was healthy and strong, but outside forces began to tear them apart. They were forced to take their respective sides. Finch, having both dragon and fox blood in her veins, remained neutral.
Eventually when Finch was ten, the rivalry turned into an all out war, with the dragons having the advantage of their magic and the foxes guided by their cleverness and agility. As for our protagonist, her mother was killed by dragons, and Finch was forced to move out of the cottage with her father, leaving Mal behind. She missed him terribly. All the adventures, all the fun, all of it had come to an end. She promised to write. She also told him that someday she would be back. Whether she would return in a month or seventy years, she didn't know, but she promised to see him again when she could.
what died didn't stay dead. you're alive, you're alive in my head
Sooner than she thought she would, Finch returned to her hometown. She received a letter from Mal, explaining that his parents had been killed. Finch's father kicked her out when she told him she was going to visit Mal. After all, Mal was a fox, and Finch's father was a dragon. Finch decided to side with the foxes and made her trip home.
Home was very different when she arrived. All the houses and shops were boarded up, street lamps were blown out, and ash hung in the air, settling on the earth like snow. Even Mal was different, changed by war. He was a fighter now, too young to be a soldier, but still the protector of his family. He had failed at this duty. Traumatized, he was not the same person Finch knew. He carried around a gun, and his eyes were dull. Mal didn't think Finch would come back, but was happy to have her with him again. They decided to leave the northeast in search of a safer place.
But just when Finch thought she had found a place where she belonged with her best friend, Mal, the town was attacked from the skies, and Mal perished in the distruction. Finch was forced to leave everything she thought she knew. It was the worst kind of pain imaginable. She had lost everything-- her best friend, her parents, her home. She had no one and nothing and noplace to go.
well, we'll still be there when your war is over
When you went away you were just a kid
And if you lost it all, and you lost it
Well, we'll still be there when your war is over.
Lift your head, and look out the window
Stay that way for the rest of the day, and watch the time go
Listen, the birds sing
Listen, the bells ring
All the living are dead, and the dead are all living
The war is over, we are beginning.
-Stars
With the war drawing to a close, Finch left everything behind in search of a new home. Across the country she traveled, over mountains, through forests, and across deserts. She traveled many places and met many people, but she never found anywhere she truly belonged. But, remembering her paranormal gifts, she decided it was time to finally develop them. Maybe that way, she could find the answer.
When the war finally ended, she had fully become a vagrant, always searching for a home she could never find, and trying her best to communicate with all the people she had lost.
listen, the birds sing
Although Finch went through hell and back, she was eventually able to see a new sunrise. Nowardays, she knows her mother and her friend Mal are never really gone, and that she has the ability to communicate with them. All she needs to do is develop her gifts.
Finch tries to have as much fun as she can. What she went through was horrible, and she shows signs of being severely trauatized by it, but she tries to bury her feelings as best she can. She tends to ignore the pain and pretend it's not there. She knows this is an unhealthy way of coping, but it's all she can do for now.
All she can do is look to the horizon.
Trivia
Has a habit of scratching behind her ear or shaking herself off.
Loves the water and enjoys swimming.

Doodles aliens in the margins of her books.
Her favotite cryptid is the Dover Demon, since she grew up somewhat near that area.
Can mimic and identify several bird calls.
Often humming or singing unidentifiable melodies. Some of which aren't from this planet.
Finch's name has been changed (by me)... god i don't know how many times. I had SUCH A HARD TIME settling on a name for her. I'm still not entirely happy with her name, but for the purposes of my own sanity (and everyone else's) I will not be changing it again. (Hopefully.)
Extras
Playlist!
Spaceman - The Killers (One of my fav songs by the killers. Speaks to her alien/space theme. Also has themes of being "the other." You should give it a listen.)
Human - The Killers (This is literally my favorite song. I just think the themes of figuring out answers from the universe combined with the tune and 80's sound really speak to Finch. I adore this song.)
Dead Hearts - Stars (I think this song fits Finch because in the story she loses someone close to her and has trouble fitting into normal society after that, almost haunted by the memories of him.)
marjorie - Taylor Swift (Another song about losing someone, but that person almost still being there even if not physically.)
seven - Taylor Swift (Fits with earlier parts of her story and her childhood.)
In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars (The lyrics, man. They fit with her story, especially the rivalry between the foxes and the dragons. Nuf said.)
Caution - The Killers (Another song by The Killers. I just think the aesthetic fits her.)
Miss Atomic Bomb - The Killers (See above.)
E.T. - Katy Perry (I just put this one here for fun :))
Don't Panic - Coldplay (This song is great for Finch because it's about how even though bad things happen in the world and in our lives, we're all connected, and everyone has "someone to lean on," even if we don't think so in the moment.)
