Personality/Backstory

At the ripe old age of 6, Kane was falsely diagnosed with catatonic schizophrenia, when in fact he was just a quiet, dissasociative child. After being on incorrect medication for two years, he was subjected to an illegal lobotomy, which had severe adverse effects on his physical and mental wellbeing. Since his recovery from the procedure, Kane found he could no longer percieve or feel emotions, almost at all. Occasionally, when one would feel a severe spike in emotion, i.e, say, a pet died, Kane would feel a twinge in his chest or a slight itch on his neck. Unfortunately as his brain developed, it became wired this way, and the twinges of emotion became few and far between. What came with his emotional incompetence was a lack of moral ambiguity, his lack of understanding of right or wrong landing him in a lot of trouble throughout the years. After attending the funeral of a close family member, the sheer amount of emotion surrounding Kane caused him to become curious with how death caused such sudden spikes in mental health. He first began experimenting by catching and killing small rodents. Squirrels, rats, mice, a rabbit or two if he got lucky. It soon escalated to things such as cats and small dogs, lizards, birds. Things that were harder to catch.

Kane killed his first human almost a half year after his eighteenth birthday. It wasn't planned, exactly, more a kill of convenience. During a late night wak through the neighbourhood, Kane encountered a man who was harrassing a woman on her way home from what he presumed was a night out with her friends. She was clearly inhibited at the time, though sober enough to realise she could be in real danger. Kane had approached them, then, and the man had turned to him and seen his scrawny, ill-fitted form, and had attempted to scare him off wit the wave of a knife. Silly man. Kane is stronger than he looks. Or he was at that age. Now he's filled out in a way that denies the underestimation that came with his young, wiry form. It didn't take him much to overpower the man. He recieved a nasty, curved slice across his eye, but he quickly repaid his pain back when he pushed the knife into the man's aorta. He pulled the knife from his victim and watched the crimson blood bubble up from the wound, the man's groans of pain quieting rather quickly. He somehow had managed to avoid getting blood on his hands. The young woman he had been harrassing had either been too drunk to report the crime, or had simply not bothered. Kane went home, washed his clothes, melted down the knife in his father's crucible, and continued life as normal. He read about the "misfortune" in the local paper the next day, and convinced his family that he had recieved the injury whilst in the forest. Thankfully it resembled a compaction injury enough to be believed. Kane's reign of terror did not end for another 12 years, wherein he managed to amass a body count of almost 55. His eventual capture happened after an off-duty officer happened to walk in on Kane's assault on a young man. After his arrest, Kane confessed to his kills. Despite Georgia being a death sentence state, A psychiactric professional ruled Kane as "unstable and unable to discern right from wrong", and Kane ended up being sentenced to life in a psychiatric prison with no chance of parole. He was given an ankle bracelet and a wristband that monitored his heartrate and blood pressure on the off chance he decided he wanted to attack a guard or fellow inmate. Thankfully, as they soon came to realise, Kane's lack of interest in attacking anyone around him stemmed from the emotionally charged environment that the prison provided him with. He quickly became a favourite of the guards', his polite demeanour and lack of aggression towards others landing him in their good books. He was afforded a single cell, his guards and the warden unsure if his demeanour towards other inmates would change if his space was invaded. He had been interviewed on more than one occasion by the FBI's Behavioural Science Unit, and they found themselves enthralled by his attention to detail in the interviews. His mild mannered nature and descriptive abilities afforded him their good nature, and he found himself at the recieving end of a vintage typewriter, which he had mentioned offhandedly in a meeting of theirs.

Trivia

  • Kane's green eyes deflect and turn blue under certain lights.
  • Although his first name is Charlie, everyone around him refers to him by his surname, and he seems to prefer it that way.
  • Kane has an intermittent tremor in his right hand, a result from the slightly botched lobotomy he was forced into as a child.
  • Kane's psychiatrist noted that he seems to still feel physical attraction, despite not feeling emotional or romantic attraction, as far as anyone can tell, though he doesn't seem to understand it.
  • Kane used a sledgehammer in the majority of his kills, though his masked face gave him the ironic name "The Sad Man" by the media. [ref]
