One sort of followed from the other; the general rule is that everything the asteroid miners bring in is for the good of the entire ship, though Keejin'ji is supposed to pull out samples that might merit further study - study by others.
It started with cool rock samples. Snuck out at the end of her shift. Then she started noticing things in the stores, that had made it through proper channels and been released for mostly artistic use - for credits. And she never had enough free credits to get what she wanted.
She never realized that you didn't have to go to who whoever is running the store and tell them you were purchasing something - that was just courtesy.

As the ship has feeds from buth the Earth Internet & major broadcast services - paid for even [it's sort of ridiculous. Some Humans will pay legal tender for numbers? I mean their computers are obviously a lot slower, It would take them years to calculate a short jump drive routine, but seriously, paying for numbers? But at least we're not breaking their laws so much]. Keejin'ji is sort of obsessing over the "Nippon" channels.
