[Lovers] It's still something Ethan needs a moment to understand, having someone so cool and mysterious like Frederick interested in him. Originally they met through Ethan's bad luck making him out to be some bad criminal, but the longer the two spent time together the more they began to develop feelings for one another. Bad luck still likes to cling around Ethan, but with Frederick there to help him each time... things are a lot easier.
[Lovers] Perhaps it was the simplistic life Ethan always lived, maybe it was how he still kept going despite his bad luck. Frederick wasn't sure what drew him close to the young man, but he fell in love almost instantly. Finally he found his feelings returned, and he'll never let go of them. He'll be that one instance of good luck Ethan has.
He has no idea who exactly Kaine is, but the guy dresses fancy and spends money like it's nothing! What's even wilder is that Kaine actually WANTS to hang out with him a lot! Ethan doesn't protest because, honestly, he's afraid of saying no, and he always gets a lot of free fancy food and oranges. It's kind of like having a... sugar daddy, he guesses?
Despite his goal to wipe out all life, Ark takes an interest in Ethan. He doesn't do anything special or different, he's perfectly average, and he doesn't try to hide it. Something like that is incredibly refreshing for Ark, and oftentimes he'll converse with the man for humbling amusement.
"Man, this bad luck just doesn't end, huh?"
"This is my bad luck husband."
Ethan's grateful for a boss like Reggie. Reggie's so supportive and understanding. No matter what bad luck Ethan goes through, he's always there to help and never gets mad!
Ethan works at Reggie's store... which isn't saying much since Reggie practically manages every store. The manager is happy with his cute little worker. Poor guy goes through the worst luck, even his otherworldly powers can't seem to stop it! But Ethan works hard, and that's all Reggie cares about!
[Related] Sometimes it's hard for Ethan to have a daughter he's not biologically related to, but that never threatens the love he has for her. He cares about her and having her changed his life all for the better.
[Related] Although Ethan isn't biologically related to her, Charlotte considers him her father. She loves him and is very grateful for him, especially the moments where his kindness balances out Frederick's strict teachings. Ethan can be a bit pathetic at times, so Charlotte tends to be more protective of him than he is of her.
Ethan's not very aware of the rivalry between Freddy and Taka. He doesn't even know who Taka is, just that his restaurants are nice to eat at for the few occasions he can afford to. He just finds it weird that the owner of those restaurants would be especially nice to him. Maybe it's to make up for the plenty of times he's gotten food poisoning there...?
Taka doesn't know why the hell Birdbrain is so smitten with someone as below average as Ethan, but that just makes things easier for him. He'll use Ethan any way he can to ruin the Nightingale, from trying to win him over to even resorting to torture.
At least until he gets his own love interest.
[Related] Though not by blood, Ethan is Annie's grandfather. He loves the two grandkids with all his heart, and is actually grateful for their dorky outlooks rather than becoming as stoic as his husband and his daughter. It's easier to talk to them, in his opinion, and he can better catch on to what they're talking about than Frederick can.
[Related] Ethan is Frederick's husband, as well as Annie's grandpa. He's far nicer than Grandpa Freddy, and the differences between the two are night and day. Annie loves hearing about how they met, all while eating Ethan's fresh picked oranges.
Cecelia was one of the few workers that tolerated Ethan back when they were both at the grocery store. They got along great, and he's glad that she's pursuing her dream now. But boy does he miss having a work friend.
She remembers always working with Ethan, or more, picking up after what mess he made next. She never got angry about it, more laughing at the sheer bad luck he always had. Definitely didn't expect to come back to him married to a mysterious and handsome detective!
Naively, Ethan followed Mike to where he lived under the impression of getting some oranges. Why not? Mike was nice and had the friendliest smile! But now? Now Ethan knows just how much of a psycho he is, and prays for a chance to get out of this hell.
The boy sure does love oranges...kidnapping him was a piece of cake. Such a naive kid, trusting a stranger and immediately hopping on board as soon as he mentioned an orange tree. Is that a ring on his finger? How sweet. Mike wonders what would happen if Ethan were to lose that finger..
Kass is scary when she's mad (even though that's pretty much every day) and the last thing Ethan wants to do is have that anger directed at him. Too bad his bad luck is always causing SOMETHING to happen. Especially when she's around!
He's always screwing something up whenever she sees him??? How is he so bad at his job, oh my god???
Ethan still thinks about that orange he ate when all the bad luck started. Wonder if he could ever find that tree again...
Vy had heard of this guy before, having some tremendous bad luck. What's so interesting about the story was how he was eating from an orange tree when it happened. Was that...? No, it couldn't be... could it?
