There aren't many predators that reside within the lands of Cape Moor, which makes The Tarpus such an anomaly - so much so that the villagers are convinced this creature is actually a vengeful spirit left over from the Days of Aaesh.

In some ways, they are correct.  However, The Tarpus are by no means mythical or supernatural.  The Tarpus are byproducts of the sea giants that used to roam the world before modern day and have found themselves close to the shore of Cape Moor the past few centuries, most likely due to the large packs of Dolucs that migrate to the shores in the warmer months.  Tarpus' are incredibly large and powerful creatures, but they are also highly intelligent and known to hunt for sport, making them unpredictable creatures to deal with.

Even the spirits of Cape Moor have learned to fear the Tarpus' power and refuse to enter their territory, Gods forbid they find themselves on the other end of a beast so feared they've made legends tremble.

Tarpus' range in size, with females being solitary hunters almost twice the size of the more docile males, who hunt primarily in packs.  Females and males often do not interact until the colder months when they get together to breed the next generation, and even then their time together is brief.  Females will declare a territory and protect their eggs, and that territory will be encircled by packs of smaller males.  Once the eggs have hatched the female will gather the Tarpus' born female and separate them, leaving the males to protect their own kind.  Mothers will often protect their daughters until they mature and set off to find a territory of their own, but there has been rare instances of female packs forming and dominating one side of the cape for decades.

More information on Tarpus' are few and far between, as anybody with a good head on their shoulders vehemently refuses to study them.  Therefore their lifespans are also a mystery, but if legends are anything to go by, they can live for up to a century.
