Sam

Large frame, sharp teeth, permanent red-eyed scowl. For someone so intimidating, he speaks softly.

Reserved and a bit peevish. He quips and snarks habitually. His jagged smile is wicked even in a giddy mood.

Sam is a stoic, aloof sort of shy. He mumbles what little he has to say only to those who have earned his trust; he’d always rather listen than talk, though.

Unrefined and not interested in the usual courtesies. He's a bit animalistic - often skittish and guarded by default. Sometimes devilish glints of a more vicious pyrie come close to the surface.

He has a dry, sarcastic humor - cracking jokes is his way of dealing with life’s misfortune. He’s known to be rude. It takes conscious effort to clean up his vocabulary for polite company.

Although his attitude can be prickly, he usually means no harm. He’s caring and sweet - even if only through atypical, sometimes enigmatic demonstrations of affection. Others returning the same compassion flusters him.

As a pyrie, Sam’s magical gifts are innate. This includes wandless magic and the ability to sense auras. In his ethereal form, he can jump, gallop, and swim longer distances. The force of his large, toothy maw or hooves is brutal to take.

Sam’s particular specialty is fire magic. He’s no delicate mage, so the pyrokinestic abilities are reserved for situations severe enough for wildfires and explosions.

Unique to Sam is a heightened extrasensory perception and intuition. His heightened senses are naturally dept at foraging magical ingredients and tracing paths from the disturbances caused by others' energy influence.

Enjoys gardening, hiking, weightlifting, pop music, alt and indie rock, singing and playing instruments, coffee, and tea.

• He has depression, anxiety, and sensory processing disorder.
• Sam has a hereditary disease; he was born without the typical pyries' horns as a result. Among other health abnormalities, he often has migraines and vertigo.
• The only instrument he is trained in is shamisen, but he has picked up guitar with surprising skill.
• In public, he deals with the overwhelming noise by listening to music through a pair of earbuds.
• He has a lot of houseplants - more than he does furniture - and both an outdoor herb and vegetable garden.
• His favorite places to hike are dense forests, mountain ranges, and by the ocean. He’s adept at traversing wilderness and rough terrain as his home village was high in the mountains.
