Basics
Jiro is a dragon who after having his heart broken decided to hide in the most secluded part of the mountains. That is, until his best friend’s adopted children found him and decided that they should all travel the world together. He tends to say that Salim won’t survive a day without him, which is probably true seeing how many times Jiro saved him already.
From the entire group he is the only one who tries to counterbalance Salim's constant optimism and enthusiasm. Jiro is a logical and strategic thinker and a realist which originates from his age and previous experiences.
Jiro lived in a small village most of his life but due to the prejudice against his kind was forced to hide who he is. As a little child, he was adopted by a local medic who did everything he could for his son to recive the same education as he did, which caused Jiro to replace his adoptive father as a village medic when Ryou retired.
Shortly after completing his studies, Jiro married his childhood best friend, Akio. But as soon as his husband realized Jiro’s secret, he revealed it which forced Jiro to flee and hide in the mountains. Akio was found dead not so long after that , but the cause of his death was never proven.
Jiro is a rather difficult individual. He is calm, mature and very patient, these traits were said to make him a very good medic with his hard-working nature and intelligence letting him be one of the best students in the Academy. Jiro tends to describe himself as a realist, he is also a very decisive, independent person with a strong sense of justice. It might be because of how his life shaped him but he is extremely distrustful by nature. For Jiro, every social interaction is a feat, since while should be used to it, he was always scared that anyone he meets might discover his secret. Over the years, it became easier with some species, he is still very hesitant to interact with humans. Jiro keeps himself from attachment because of his fear of being abandoned again. He doesn’t have currently any friends, besides Salim. He desperately tries to play a matchmaker, after Jiro unwittingly told him the story of his marriage to Akio. He tires setting the dragon up on blind dates with his friends.
Likes
- - tea- Jiro hoards tea, which is very expensive in the area he lives in. As a little child, Jiro was often very anxious. He tended not being able to fall asleep or cry because of smallest things. Ryou used to make tea for him then, and Jiro still drinks it whenever he is anxious or can’t concentrate.
- - poetry- He adores reading poetry and classical literature and he has small collection of valuable manuscripts. Most parts of his cherished collection were gifts from people he helped, and some are remains of his life in the capital city.
- - singing
- - chocolate- Jiro really loves chocolate, but as an imported good, it was very expensive when he was a child. He still thinks it’s a waste of money to buy it. He used to have a small amount of it stored for special occasions, but shortly after he told Salim about it, all the chocolate disappeared from Jiro’s bag. He might have cried when he noticed that it was stolen.

- binding his wings- When living in the village, Jiro used to bind his wings with bandages and hide them underneath clothes. Because of an unnatural shape of his back underneath them, he was rumored to have a deformed spine. Since it is not uncommon for other species to live in one place, neither his horns or ears looked suspicious and only his fluffy wings and tail could give him away. And they did, shortly after he married Akio. The same day, to be exact.
Jiro still binds his wings every day as just a thought of anyone seeing them makes him anxious. He finds the process itself rather painful, and because of all the years of having to keep his wings bound, they tend to cause him a lot of pain. - watching birds- Jiro can’t fly and is jealous of any creature that does. Mostly because of the pain his wings tend to cause him. They are also rather weak after years of being bound when they were still developing, so while Jiro tried to teach himself how to fly years later, his wings weren’t able to carry his own weight . Jiro hopes that while travelling with Salim he might find someone who has enough knowledge to help him.

LOYAL
Jiro was very anxious about going on the journey with Eva’s children, since he didn’t want to leave the place he built with his father. After all, Ryou was one of the two people Jiro trusted. But the other one was Eva, who Jiro promised to help whenever she needed it. So when Salim showed up with Eva’s letter to Jiro, found somewhere in her diaries, he decided to protect her son and his companion on their journey. Even if Salim’s reckless behavior and absolute thoughtlessness is making that task harder every day.
DRAGON HUNTS
In the part of the country Jiro lives in, it is common to hunt and kill dragons, and anyone who is rumored to be related to them. It is prohibited to hide them, with death penalty being imposed on anyone who is found doing so.
The law is said to stem from the time when dragon hearts were used as the main ingredient in medicine and alchemy- since they were traditionally considered to be the cure for every illness. Due to the high demand the population of dragons quickly dwindled down and even a small piece of it can reach outrageous prices.
EDUCATION
Jiro graduated the Royal Academy and was an apprentice of the royal physician in the palace for a few years. Jiro always wanted to follow his father’s steps and become a medic but since Ryou was just a physician in a tiny village, he wouldn’t have enough money to send his talented son to the capital to study, he allowed Jiro to become his apprentice as soon as he was able. He believed that despite not being able to afford schooling for Jiro, his son will still manage to thrive as a medic. But still, Ryou was the one who looked for every opportunity which would make sending Jiro to school possible and despite his son’s disapproval he made Jiro apply for a scholarship founded by the Royal Academy. Acquiring it required Jiro to win the contest, and his father did everything he could in order to help his son to study for it.
Despite being promised the job of the royal physician by his mentor, Jiro decided to go back to the village to work there as a local medic to allow his father to retire.
LOCAL MEDIC
Despite Jiro’s self-imposed isolation, he sometimes travels to the small village a half-day’s travel away from where he lives to gather supplies. However, having years of experience as a physician, Jiro won’t deny his help to anyone needing it. He refuses to accept payment for his help from those who can't afford it, but knowing that, the people living in the village often offer him supplies instead.

- Since Jiro loves reading classical books and poetry, he isn’t good at writing them. He wishes he could write like his favorite authors, so he’s kinda jealous for the people who write. Memesogic
- Jiro has a small collection of tea cups to go along his tea collection! While he doesn’t go out of his way to get them, if he sees one he really likes, chances are he’ll pick it up. Plus Jiro likes to have a choice of cups whenever he wants something to drink, and usually picks a cup which reflects his mood at the time. KittyKnight
Jiro got a low, humble but crystal clear singing voice. He likes to hum to himself(or to Akio back in the day) when he’s busy. He tries to teach Salim the basics but ends up with mixed results fizzelston
Jiro loves misty mornings and nights. He loves the misty morning because it stops a lot of people from being up and he has the early morning to get his errands done with little social interaction. He loves misty night for the same reasons but the added bonus of the cool air hitting his skin makes him feel relaxed and calm. He does miss the stars on these nights but he’d take a misty night over a starry night anytime.

Ryou Jiro’s adoptive father
Ryou took care of Jiro despite knowing who he is and did everything to hide his son's origin. After retiring, Ryou moved to a small cabin in the mountains which he built with his son not long before he left for the capital city to study. After Akio’s betrayal, Jiro hid there and took care of his father until he died
Ryou was a son of a wealthy merchant and used to study in the same academy he later sent his son to. His family lost all their wealth due to his father’s gambling problem
Akio Jiro’s childhood friend and ex-husband
He was the oldest of five siblings, and since his childhood he trained to be a hunter. He was illiterate, but liked to listen to stories Jiro read to him.
Eva dragon, Jiro's best friend and dragon hunter
Eva was a dragon who managed to survive undetected for few hundreds of years. She learned how to live among humans despite being raised by other dragons and ultimately joined ranks of dragon hunters in hopes that such affiliation will help her disguise her origins. During her time as a hunter, Eva acted as a diplomat in Jiro’s country for a long time until she was moved back to aid the main military force with fighting the rising rebellion . She lost her wife then, who was her second-in-command. Not being able to serve longer, she decided to retire and moved back to the coast she grew up on. She ultimately died after one of her old, unhealed injuries got infected.
Eva was able to shift into her dragon form- a small wing-less lizard with sand colored scales and rows of small spikes on her brow. She was of species which originally used to occupy deserts- with their small light builds moving through sand wasn’t difficult. Eva used to travel a lot and was a very talented storyteller. However, she tended to embellish her stories, therefore, whenever she describes "the old world before the apocalypse" and the supposed god who saved it Jiro takes it with a grain of salt. Yet, the notes seem to contain directions on how to reach them.
Salim Eva's son and Jiro's friend
Adopted child of Jiro's friend, Eva, and Jiro’s new, very annoying friend. After his adoptive mother passed away, he decided to leave the coast he used to live on and go on adventure with his best friend. He uses his mother’s diaries as a plan for the journey, hoping to visit all the places she did in her youth. That’s how he met Jiro.
He tends to get easily overexcited and shouts instead of speaking. Salim is kind hearted and optimistic but also very naive and reckless. He rarely thinks before jumping into trouble.
Furin A fox spirit gifted with human form. He has too many siblings. He joined Salim and Jiro on their journey, hoping to find his creator and take a way the blessing- human form- which so far for Furin proved to only be a curse. Salim tries to convice him to date Jiro.
Yuval Salim's best friend
Cat shapeshifter who usually spends his days in his cat form. The scourge of Jiro's collection of tea cups, he is so fascinated with gravity. Yuval loves observing it in action, especially if helped a bit by his own fluffy paw.

Like Furin, he was gifted with a human form. Unlike Furin he has yet to figure out he is not a bird anymore.

Like Furin, he was gifted with a human form. Jiro suspects they are much more powerful than they look.
