  • Red eyes
  • Fair skinned with a rather pale complexion
  • Physically fit with somewhat muscled build
  • 6'6" in height
  • Sharp canines and nails
  • Large scar on right knee
  • Three line markings under left eye and across cheek (see refs)
  • Eight piercings per ear; 4 upper, 4 lower

Clothing Style

Neoka looks like he wears about the same type of outfit all the time, but that's because if his clothing ever gets dirty or ruined he just morphs himself to a point in time when his clothing was perfectly clean. Across all his outfits, he always wears a mahogany colored headband and cloak with a red brooch. He also commonly wears gold jewelry, including earrings and a few rings on his fingers. He frequently wears some kind of gold beaded/chained/braided accessory hanging off his belt. He almost always wears a belt and jeans that are torn in some manner. He always seems to wear a long sleeved red shirt with the sleeve ends having a V-shape cut into them, although sometimes they have varying designs other than that. Neoka also has this weird tendency to never tuck in his shirt on only the left side. Don't ask why.

His most common look during the War included a unadorned version of his red shirt. For his jeans, his right knee usually has a hole in the pant leg, and his knee is usually wrapped in bandages. He wears some rings on his fingers and a gold beaded chain from his belt.

After the War his outfit changes slightly. His shirt has cross-stitchings on the insides of his sleeves, and it is also stitched around the midriff and across from there to his hip as well. He still wears his rings and the same beads from his belt.

After the events of TToaH, he opts for a shirt that has the inner cross-stiches in the sleeves but does not have the stitches on the midriff, and he wears belts crossing his chest/abdomen and similar belts on his arms. He also wears a leather brace over his right knee along with a gold brace on top of that. He has a slightly different chain on his belt this time, and although he wears the same rings on his left hand, he wears a fingerless glove on his right hand instead and only has one ring on his middle finger on the outside of the glove instead. The gold brace on his knee is intended to slowly remove the lingering corruption from Shana's rifting from his knee injury, so once that task is completed, he stops wearing it and only wears a leather brace instead.

Personality

Neoka is a rather complicated young man who has a cheeky and friendly personality that is often overshadowed by his lack of self worth and constant feelings of guilt and uneasiness. On the surface, Neoka is a perfectly confident and charming person who is generally agreeable if not somewhat snarky. He has a strong sense of ethics that he sticks to, and even though he may act reluctant about it, he will often go out of his way to help other people since he can't stand to simply not act and help others when he is capable of doing so. During his youth he was much more outgoing and rather mischievous, enjoying acting out and finding excitement wherever he could. Following the rather traumatic events of the War, which involved him falling under the control of the false goddess of death, Shana, Neoka has become a lot more mellowed out and incredibly "angsty" from the guilt of his actions. Neoka has an alternate personality, referred to as Pain or "the Liar," who mostly took control to carry out Shana's will, so Neoka does not have a lot of clear memories of what exactly he did during the War or what people he encountered. However, he understands that Pain committed many atrocious acts while in control, and Neoka's guilt over allowing this to happen has clearly affected his ability to exist following the War. He feels that he needs to atone for Pain's actions, yet has no clear goal of what this atonement ought to be or what the extent of this penance should be, so Neoka assumes that he just has to help basically everyone decent he comes across and go out of his way to solve other peoples' problems to balance out the bad he has done. Unfortunately Neoka doesn't see to have any intention of "ending" this period of atonement, so he constantly allows other people to walk over him or tolerates more than he should because he genuinely believes he deserves and hardship or punishment set upon him.

Despite this angsty self-punishing attitude of his, Neoka is anything but dreary and brooding about it. He tends to swing between having a "why me?" mentality about whatever conflicts he encounters and having a "I totally deserve this" mentality whenever misfortune befalls him. He may complain and act reluctant about having to deal with so many things thrown his way, but he is thoroughly resigned to having to struggle through his life, since it's only fair considering how "terrible of a person he is." Neoka tends to mask his confidence and self-worth issues with thinly veiled overconfidence and bravado, and most of his complaining is exaggerated and theatrical. Neoka doesn't enjoy being vulnerable and genuine about his feelings, since he doesn't really think they matter, so acting confidence and generally flippant is just a method to avoid addressing the issue. Although he is a little grandiose and mopey sometimes, he's a very sweet person that doesn't really want a lot of recognition or attention for his actions, but unfortunately he always seems to get noticed by all the problem-starters of the Eternity. He's very loyal and protective of the people he cares about, and once he sets his mind to something there is very little that can turn him away from his goal. However, since his powers focus on shapeshifting into other things, he sometimes has issues with his own identity. He rarely knows how to answer personal questions and tends to be apathetic about them anyway, both because he rarely thinks about such things and also because he doesn't find himself  important enough that it would matter anyway.

Those closest to him will note that Neoka still has traces of his cheeky and quirky personality when he doesn't have to deal with strangers or acquaintances. Neoka tends to be a big doormat to most people and is quick to throw up his sarcastic demeanor when he feels like he's in the public eye. In more private settings, he can open up more and speak more transparently about his feelings without his overly-emotional and ironically angsty front. Even though Neoka comes off as rather weird and kind of a mess, he generally feels pretty boring and generally "normal" compared to a lot of the strange characters he often encounters. He frequently gets exasperated by the even more exaggerated quirkiness of the people he usually interacts with, such as Isaac or Syke, but he follows such people around loyally and has a hard time taking control of situations or saying no to whatever oddness they may lead him into. Neoka would love to be more like a role model like his legendary ancestor, the first Morpher, Nanikai, but he often feels like too much of a hot mess to actually live up to such expectations. That doesn't mean he won't try to be a good person and do the right thing, but it'll be a hot day in the Void before he actually believes he's worthy of such distinction.

Abilities

  • Can morph into anyone who has, is, or ever will be along with tapping into their memories and skill sets
    • For a long while, he loses the ability to morph reliably due to feeling guilt over using it for ill deeds during the War, along with generally losing confidence in himself and not having a strong sense of identity anymore
    • Even when he eventually relearns how to use his morphing effectively, he's kinda lazy and doesn't use it to its full OP potential, since he feels like that would make things way too easy on himself
  • Can also clone himself indefinitely, with each of these clones capable of morphing at his normal capacity
  • Raynbo rifting - rank 1/5
  • Virtually immortal and can recover from normally fatal injuries relatively quickly
    • This highly accelerated regeneration and resilience to injury comes at the cost of a reduced lifespan, which all Nanikans have compared to standard Ela
  • Extremely high pain tolerance
  • Highly agile, flexible, and has very quick reflexes (if he's actually paying attention)
  • Capable of using swords well enough, but they're not his preferred weapon
  • Skilled with improvised weapons and is generally adaptable to most situations
  • Skilled at dancing, although he prefers to dance "poorly"

Strengths

  • Resilient, persistent, and enduring
  • Has a strong code of ethics and morals, selfless, and can easily adapt to various situations
  • Loyal, down to earth, and extremely passionate and devoted to his morals and those he bonds with
  • Generally easy to approach,

Weaknesses

  • A total pushover, a glutton for punishment, and always seems to attract weird people and a whole lot of trouble
  • Irresponsible, easily flustered/exasperated, and often throws himself in harm's way to protect those around him
  • Melodramatic, tends to put his own happiness last, and doesn't thinks anything he does can actually redeem him
  • Lacks confidence and self worth, has issues coming to terms with his own identity, and generally feels uncomfortable acknowledging himself and being in his own skin

Backstory

As the descendant of Nanikai, Neoka was destined to become the Morpher and join the league of Lord Dalia's Court. His father left his family shortly after Neoka was born, and his mother died not long after from a combination of illness and grief of the abandonment. Neoka was primarily raised by his grandmother, Netera, and a close friend of his mother, Rivera, alongside his two older sisters, Neoni and Nakeeta, and his "cousin," Neridalt. His upbringing was generally strict from his grandmother and most of the community of their small village of Neonikai, with their expectations of him to live up to his ancestor's name pushing him to desire and seek greatness from himself. Neoka was mostly eager to fulfill this rather heroic image set out for him, but it also became a rather draining endeavor to meet everyone's expectations. He came to view Rivera as more of a mother while growing up, since she was much more gentle and fair with her expectations of him.

Some time during his childhood, Neoka was attacked by a strange beast while playing out in the fields with Neridalt. The creature was not native to Nanika, and inflicted a severe bite wound to his knee before other villagers came to their aid and slew the beast. Neoka would not realize until years later that this creature was afflicted with tainted Deyth rifting and sent to corrupt him by followers of the false goddess of death, Shana. The corruption did not seem take effect until much later and lay dormant within him for years. A few years later, Neoka ran away from home and ended up in Emdrica, although even now he wouldn't be able to give you a clear answer why or how it happened. He was taken in by De Jack Zilvas and raised alongside his own son, Isaac, whom Neoka became best friends with.

Shana's corruption seemed to be suppressed for some time by being absorbed by an alter ego created in Neoka's mind through use of his morphing abilities, which he unintentionally created to help him survive and cope while wandering alone in the Demon's Realm before he made it to Emdrica. However, during his teen years this alter ego reemerged upon the resurrection of Shana and then joined her in the War against Lord Dalia. He committed many atrocities without Neoka being fully conscious of his actions, and Neoka does not have very many clear memories of these years aside from the occasional visits back to Emdrica when his alter ego would allow him to come back to consciousness.

After Shana was defeated, Neoka regained control of himself and inadvertently faked his own death, later deciding to use this to his benefit to try and start over. He currently wanders the Eternity, frequently stopping by Emdrica and searching for a way to redeem himself for his actions during the War. However, the looming presence of his wartime allies, the Enlightened, is becoming a greater threat to him and the few friends he's managed to remember.

When he's not doing all that important canon nonsense about flailing his way through a redemption arc, he's getting into horrible misadventures that he rarely knows how he gets into and really has stopped questioning why anymore.

Trivia:

  • In his original concept, Neoka was intended to be a vigilante of sorts. A few years later he was reworked to be a villain, and then shortly after adjusted to be manipulated into being a villain.
  • Like his sister, Nakeeta, he was originally a human before his design was adjusted to have elf ears and the markings under his eye.
    • For about fifteen years after their creation, Nakeeta was always the youngest of the siblings and Neoka was the middle child. This has only recently been changed to give Nakeeta more room/time to develop her career without having to progress Neoka's narrative too far first, since his age is relatively consistent through most of his use.
  • Neoka is one of my most treasured characters and I probably use him more in my writing than any of my personas (or even all of them combined).
    • Even if he doesn't believe it, he deserves to be happy.
  • Like all Nanikans, he does not need to breathe in order to live. He needs to breathe in order to talk and do other things requiring his lungs, but he will not die from lack of air through suffocation, drowning, or the like.
  • His right knee is essentially his video game weak spot, and a solid shot to that knee would probably bring him down for the count.
    • His scarred knee is the spot where he was attacked by a Deyth corrupted creature, which is how Shana corrupted him with her power in the first place.
    • An injury to his knee basically causes a spike through his rifting network, essentially like giving a shock to his entire nervous system, and he's likely to go completely numb for a period of time.
    • After the Enlightened falls, Jack manages to get Neoka a knee brace that is designed to slowly draw out the Deyth rifting poisoning his body. He ends up wearing it for about a year or so before it removes the corruption from him, and his knee is no longer a "weak point."
    • Hitting him in the knee after this is still likely to rattle him just because of the associated trauma.
  • His favorite color is red.
  • His favorite food is the Billfold Burrito from the restaurant Wallet Wraps, located in That-One-Town, Xyarok.
  • Has probably eaten Isaac's wallet at least a dozen times. Isaac is a little annoyed he has to buy so many replacements.
  • Never eats steaks because without fail, Syke will burst in and body-slide across whatever table he's eating at and launch the steak right into his face.
    • Even if he's not eating at a table, Syke will still inadvertently manage to get that steak to literally faceplant on Neoka.
  • His favorite restaurant is the Space Navi Buccaneer Barn.
    • He was banned from returning there after blowing up two walls and the ceiling during a game of Spin the Missile.
    • He forgot to pay for it for three years, but the ban was dropped after helping the owner find treasure in the Barfite Mines.
    • He gets unreasonably upset when people refer to it as a store instead of a restaurant.
    • His usual order is anti-gravity hash browns and a cup of scurvy repellent.
  • Probably couldn't remember how to pronounce "Christmas" to save his life.
  • Horrible at basic domestic skills and would probably use his morphing abilities to know how rather than actually learning himself.
  • Has covered for Nether Rex for one of his shifts working on the Daliarivon Express/Rogue Train. Doesn't like to talk about it.
  • Commonly got lost in dark caves with Isaac during their childhood.
    • Would always give each other riddles to pass the time while looking for an exit. If Neoka ever lost, Isaac would try to eat him.
  • Almost always has issues with invisible bear traps whenever he goes into the woods.
  • Has a habit of dancing miles away from his starting location if he ever listens to his music player. He never seems to know how he winds up on a different planet after his playlist is finished.
    • Jack has commented he has this trait in common with his ancestor, Nanikai. Nanikai apparently had a habit of dancing to basically anything remotely musical.
  • Common to see him napping on trains for several days straight.
  • Is a Camptown Racist. Don't you dare talk about those dirty Camptonians in his presence.
  • Compulsively makes horrible similes to describe his feelings, usually in his inner monologue.
  • Likes mushrooms in stir fry.
  • Fond of teriyaki sauce.
  • Eats potato chips with a spork.
  • His pants do not do well with red stains.
  • Has had a long-range acupuncture session before.
  • Used to drink regularly when his alter ego had control over him, but he stopped after the War. His tolerance for alcohol is through the roof though, and he can rarely get himself even remotely tipsy anymore.
    • During the War he could get himself pretty drunk with whisky, but now it doesn't affect him in the least and he has lost the taste for it.
  • Has apparently raided a misplaced boat on behalf of Spite Despite for merchandise.
  • Will never ring a doorbell. They're evil in his culture.
  • Has been convicted of mass property damage in avian court.
    • Jack ended up paying the massive fine Neoka was charged with.
  • Has apparently beaten Captain Kirk at arm wrestling.
  • His hammer of thunder is eternally on rent.
  • Lost Flynn's identity disk to stop the frost giants.
  • Capable of carrying 40 cowboys and one pirate while in mountain banshee form.
  • Marvel stole the Tony Stank joke. WE MADE THAT JOKE IN 2012, YOU THIEVES
  • Was the first to purchase Megatron's memoir.
  • Accepted to Bambinaboils Summer Camp of Dishcraft and Narcolepsy and sorted into Shuttlebluff and also Flufflestuff.
  • Is aware of his own character profile thanks to it being brought to his attention by Tithe's cousin, Wynter.
    • Does not appreciate being labeled as forever unloved and his relationship with the Gal being called a running gag.
    • Was rather aghast at the change of his sexuality from "Heterosexual, as far as he knows at least" to "Bisexual, although he thinks he's straight."
    • "What, I don't even get to come to terms with my sexuality on my own terms? The box just changes when I'm not looking? RUDE"
  • Capable of falling asleep while standing up.
  • Has an ENFP-T personality type according to the Myers-Briggs test. 78% extroverted, 73% intuitive, 88% feeling, 93% prospecting, and 67% turbulent.
  • According to this quiz, Neoka’s color personality is “Serulian.” It doesn’t seem terribly accurate to me.
  • Well aware that Darian would love to kill him, and he honestly couldn't care less. They tend to sling insults at each other whenever they encounter each other, but only if the Gal is out of earshot.
  • Theoretically he could figure out the identity of his father by morphing into him, but Neoka doesn't dare try it. He doesn't even want to know who his father is considering he left his mother to die.
  • Will sometimes joke that his mom is a giant moth, because Rivera took over caring for him and his siblings when their father left and their mother passed. Rivera is technically more of a nanny, but Neoka will sometimes refer to her as Mom directly or as his “moth mom“ when referring to her to others.
    • Sometimes doesn't indicate that he is referring to Rivera as his mom, so it can sometimes confuse people without context.
    • "I think the only animal that likes me is my mom." "..." "...What?" "...Oh, you're talking about the giant blue moth, aren't you?"
    • Combined with the fact that Neoka frequently refers to Idramae as "Mom" when nagged by him, Neoka sometimes jokes that he has three moms: "My real mom, my mom that's a moth, and my mom that's a man."
  • Has a sword with a thorned blade that he can materialize out of nothing, but he rarely uses it because he doesn't like using swords that much.
    • If asked why he has this ability, he says it was a token of gratitude from a weird lady he saved from "drowning in a lake."
  • Treats the back of his left hand like a watch, and it inexplicably tells him the time despite the lack of any indication of time on it at all.
  • His most obvious nervous habit is biting his lip.
  • If you asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up as a child, he would've said "a hero." The thought of it now makes his soul wither.
  • He's really hoping the Gal will punch him in the stomach someday. She can't reach his face, so that would be good enough for him.
    • "I used to be an adventurer, but then I took a Gal to the knee." In reference to me needing to kick out his legs to reach his face.
  • Moderately ticklish.
  • Once referred to Reaf as his girlfriend to get out of something, and to this day he sometimes jokingly refers to her as that. She doesn't seem to care and just thinks he's weird.
    • Neoka apparently has a number of people assigned to different "relationships" with him. Reaf is his girlfriend (until she and Nuke get their act together), Isaac is his "boyfriend" (which Isaac takes way too seriously), the Gal is his galfriend, and there are a couple others in odd variant relationship titles.
  • Neoka is a little conflicted how to feel about Isaac, since they've grown up together and consider each other as brothers and best friends, but their running joke of being "boyfriends" is feeling a little less like a joke and is incredibly confusing to him. This probably is part of the reason why Neoka hasn't come to terms that he might be attracted to men, because he's convinced his closeness with Isaac is either them joking about being a couple or just brotherly love.
    • Neoka feels like it would be weird to admit he might have romantic feelings for someone he's considered as his adoptive brother since childhood, but he can't deny that his feelings have changed somewhat since they've become adults. He figures it's easier to just keep playing along with the "joke" that they are dating and not acknowledge his conflicted feelings. He's also pretty sure that Isaac is just "way too in character" with his relentless flirting "for the sake of the joke." Boy, Neoka is dense.
    • His first kiss was actually with Isaac, but it was initiated by Pain during a Daliarivon Festival. Neoka then pushed Isaac off the barstool he was sitting on and spit in the face of a nearby bar patron in disgust. They were younger teens at this point, so of course he wasn’t going to have a mature reaction to it. Isaac didn’t seem to mind though.
  • Since 2006 or 2007 or so, Neoka was intended as some kind of "rival love interest" that would cheekily pine for the Gal's affections and be antagonistic toward Darian. Since the Gal was my main persona at the time, it was mostly just me writing some smooth-talking and charismatic love-triangle/love interest for myself. XP
    • Yeah, it's weird for a 19 year old to have interest in a 13 year old, but honestly that went completely over my head at the time of writing it (when I was the same age as the Gal). I did sort of acknowledge he was "a little old" for the Gal, but Neoka always said he would wait for her to catch up, since he's an elf and would remain mostly the same as an adult, so technically the Gal would "catch up" in age eventually. Obviously if I was going to write a charming love interest for my self-insert, I would write him to be well-meaning and genuine.
    • In the present day the love-interest angle has been cut entirely and it's just a running joke in non-canon settings, and Neoka is just platonically interested in the Gal and simply looks out for her because he finds her charming and amusing. He is still antagonistic toward Darian only because Darian doesn't like or trust him, and Neoka finds him pompous, arrogant, and irritating.
    • In non-canon stories I would write for a friend's birthday for several years in a row, Neoka would focus on getting a birthday gift for my friend on my behalf so he could "win my affections." This started out as him doing this for me as the Gal, but over the years the stories were less directed at the Gal as my persona and more directly at just me the writer. I suppose you could say Neoka isn't interested in the Gal anymore and is just wooing me instead, which is fine since I'm an adult and actually have "caught up" with him. There's even a story that involves him coming to terms with me "out-aging" him since I'm an actual person and he's a fictional character that isn't aging. Poor fellow and his numerous existential crises, but that's what you get when you're written by a self-indulgent dork.
    • Sheesh, I started that schtick when I was 13, and now I'm 28 and almost a decade older than him. I'm going to be a cougar who he learns to stop pining for soon. DX
    • If asked what their song would be if he and the Gal were ever a couple, he'd say it would either be "Gah Why the Heck Won't You Love Me" or "Gah What the Heck Stop Stalking Me." The two can be sung as a duet. Apparently "Gah What the Heck Stop Stalking Me" was a real hit "back home," according to Neoka. It's unclear if he means Nanika or Emdrica.
  • Even though he can morph into anyone he wants, Neoka prefers to stay as his default self most of the time. Oddly enough though, he does not really like his own body very much. He tends to sarcastically remark on his charming good looks, but in all honesty he hates being in his own skin.
    • He doesn‘t find his morphing ability as much of an escape anymore since he feels he has abused his abilities while being manipulated by Shana. He considers staying in his own body to be something of a punishment, and he feels he should stay in his “cage” to atone for the terrible things he has done while borrowing other people’s forms.
    • Neoka tends to dress in such a way that covers most of his body, meaning pants and long sleeves at almost all times. He does not like to display his body and gets very uncomfortable whenever he needs to disrobe. He would rather morph into a previous version of himself that is clean than have to remove his clothing to wash them or to bathe.
  • Most people don't even know Neoka's last name and just assume it's Emtratika, since that's the last name of Nanikai Emtratika. Most people conflate that him being the Morpher means he's Emtratika, and Neoka doesn't bother to correct anyone. He figures it makes it easier on everyone for him to not be connected to anyone else by name. For example, he thinks it would be weird for him to have his real last name public and have people recognize that he's related to his sister, Nakeeta Kovana, who is a very well known popstar.
  • People tend to tease Neoka about "having the hots" for Idramae considering how close and affectionate they are with each other, but Neoka insists he's not interested in Idramae like that. Neoka treats Idramae affectionately and kind of like a relative, since they technically share very distant ancestors of Nanikai and Amradelta (although the related-ness between them is separated by over 40 trillion years, so it’s verrrrrrrry distant).
    • On the other hand, Pain treats Idramae as a peer and considers him something of a love interest. He doesn’t seem to care that Idramae is quite a bit older than him. Neoka is a little annoyed that his alter ego has the hots for his mom-friend.
    • "If Idramae is your mom, then you better start calling me daddy." "NO."
  • Old Charahub blurb: "The present day descendant of the Morpher, Nanikai, that struggles with his inner demons in his quest for redemption and righteousness."
