Profile

Ruben Rubis | Main character of Ruben Rubis and the Groobis Anubis | he/him

Ruben is a pretty average college slacker in his first year at a city university. He oversleeps, he's unorganized, he doesn't get along with his roommate, and he has no idea what he wants to major in. That is until a dangerous set of circumstances bring him in contact with a famous Anubis head sculpture by the late, great artist Antyu Groobis. The statue grants him its unlimited power - power that has no constructive path to take. Ruben unwittingly becomes the center of a reality-warping hurricane, tearing reality apart culi by culi. Ruben has to figure out how to grab a hold of the powers before everything goes to shit - and figure out why criminals were trying to steal the Groobis Anubis in the first place.

Born to immigrant parents, Ruben has been mostly getting by in life. He's not the brightest but is good at slipping his way out of trouble, and is pathetic enough to garner sympathy points. Ruben put great emphasis on the physical world and doesn't think too hard about himself, which is part of the problem. Maybe if he knew more about what he liked and what he aspired for (besides wealth) he could get his life under control. Ruben isn't the most forthcoming person and isn't the friendliest either, and he's good at ignoring people he doesn't like. He's not supposed to be a character you admire, but perhaps one you can sympathize with at times.

Ruben's reality warping powers are immense and all-encompassing, but work on the scale of "culi." Every deviation from reality is another culi down. Culi 1 is a reality mostly like our own, but perhaps a bit newer and cleaner. Culi 2 is a bit scruffy and scrappy, like a hand-me-down. Culi 3 is where things become shadier and objects are more like counterfeits. Culi 4 is a level of dangerous proportions. Anything could be made out of anything, logic be dammed. Culi 5 is cosmic horror. There are things in this world not meant for us to encounter, but Culi 5 generates them. Culi 6 is end of the cycle, where the world has been changed so deeply, nobody notices except for a creeping sensation of wrongness. By the time you get to Culi 6, you're fucked and there's no way to go back.

Ruben is an older character of mine that was revamped recently (as of writing this description) and a lot of his older art is gorey and disturbing. Please click through at your own risk.
