Backstory

His family consists mainly of merchants travelling trade routes over several countries, cause that's how merchants work I guess. He was born during those travels, too, and spent most of his childhood exploring the world! It was an exciting life for a child, really. Especially so when his younger brother joined him around 10 years later. At first Adeo suffered a bit of ex-single child's jealousy as his brother's birth belated his own supposed schooling that was meant to start around then, and Simon was considered 'something special' due to his very apparent Azata genes, usually unseen in the rest of the family, but it was something he had to deal with. Personally he didn't see what the big deal was - Simon just had yellow eyelashes and freckles. It's not like Adeo's hair was any different. As Adeo became a young teenager and Simon was about 4 years old, it was decided that instead of schooling them separately, they can learn to read and count together to not be illiterate dumb fucks and be able to continue the family business! So as is traditional in weird ass medieval-like settings, they were left under the care of some monastery, since that's usually where you can find people who can actually use books. In particular it was a monastery of Linium, a god of labor and devotion, definitely jam-packed with scholars and the likes, as well as other children under the care of said scholars.

So the boys were left behind! It was a little tough, but it always is when you're suddenly on your own. And soon it turned out that despite the relatively late start Adeo had, he very quickly grasped the basics of reading, writing and counting. And in fact, he didn't have much trouble with further, more difficult material, soon being equal in skill to the teens who grew up in or near the temple and were also taught there. He absorbed knowledge of history, mathematics, biology and eventually when his teachers decided he had the capability, also arcana. And with the knowledge he also absorbed the ideals of people who taught him, and as he grew up, he slowly realised those ideals... differed from what he was taught by his parents by a great margin. He started to notice faults and dishonesty in what his dad taught him about merchanting, and from confusion he grew to dislike, and then resent his family's ways of swindling and laziness compared to the devotion and righteousness of people he started to look up to. Meanwhile Simon, much younger, had a much slower program and was taught along with the local children (and didn't seem to have the same drive Adeo did), looked up to his big brother - it was all he had left from their family, and the elders scared him a bit, with how strict they were. So when Adeo started to whine about how their parents were unfair on people and going against everything Linium said, Simon nodded along, convinced his smart brother knew what he was talking about! Why wouldn't he be?

So after several years of schooling, when their parents decided to show up and see if their children grew up into a pair of fine, educated traders, Adeo made it clear that he was definitely educated, and that he definitely did not want to go back to his family. Simon only had vague memories of the two people before him, so when asked if HE wanted to come along... he said he'd rather stay with Adeo (which may or may not have made the older brother cry a little bit inside). Understandably enough, it made their family rather upset, and they wanted to let Adeo know it wasn't really his choice, to which he responded he was practically a grown man - he could do whatever he wanted, and he wanted to learn more. That stance was supported by the scholars that took care of the brothers until then, saying the two children held great potential. The parents didn't have much of a choice other than potentially kidnapping their own children, really. And they weren't determined enough to do that - Adeo was unphased, and it was clear he wanted to 'save' his younger brother from them as well. Any attempt at forcing them to come with would be met with annoying teenage rebellion. The brats wanted to do their own thing? Fine then! They can rot here, in the middle of nowhere, and they definitely can count on their family never spending a copper coin on them ever again. Eventually they'd come back crawling and asking for forgiveness, right?

... Several years later, we're here! Even though grown up, Adeo is still studying in several fields, and has no intention of stopping. Eventually he decided he wanted to make people realise their wrongs and learn where hard and honest work can lead you, just as he has learnt, so he's picked up the position of an inquisitor. It also allowed him to travel the world more, which was one part of his childhood he missed. Although of course an inquisitor has a bit more violent job than just 'setting a good example for people' like some sort of preacher, but Adeo's not against it in the slightest. There's some real scum roaming this world, so if he has to go to some questionable lengths to get rid of it, he will! Even if he's not the best at his job yet... every road will lead him closer to his goal!

He had to leave Simon behind (who's been growing into a bit of a troublemaker, but a lovable one, really), but the brothers have bonded greatly over the years together, and think of each other often.

... And don't tell anyone, but Adeo misses just one more thing - his family has always reveled in luxury. It was undeserved luxury, but he'd had a taste of it nonetheless. So in quiet hopes that he'll get to grow old, he's thinking he'll spend whatever riches he might acquire on a nice mansion in the country. With big rooms. And tons of pillows. And books, of course. Spending his last days surrounded by pillows and books is his ultimate goal. And until then, he's gonna accept smaller instances of happiness, like fine clothes, and comfortable beds. Yeah. Good.
