Nyklos Bucina, Formerly known as simply "The Changeling," is a changeling bard/rogue and member of an unnamed adventuring party exploring the Young World and beyond.

Description

Appearance

Nyklos typically takes the form of a blue-gray tiefling, the identity she created with Ry when she first moved to the Capital City around four years before the start of the campaign. While in this form, she has iridescent blue-gray skin, oily black hair cut into a messy mullet, and featureless gold eyes. Her horns transition from her skin color into a candy orange. She has a tail, which is the same color as her skin and is tuffed with black fur at the end, similar to that of a lion's. While in this form, she appears rather well-built, and stands slightly taller than the average tiefling.

In her natural form, Nyklos is a pale white humanoid, with long, spider-like limbs and mostly-human features. She has no body hair in this form, and sports a short, outgrown military haircut.

As Dorian Wildegarde, they take on the look of a pale human with long, dark brown hair, and various body/facial hair.

She typically wears light leather armor, in shades of black and dark brown.

Personality

Nyklos is, self-admittedly, a "reserved hermit," though this is less due to a desire to be alone, and moreso due to the fact that she has a hard time forming relationships with others. By instinct, she's naturally untrusting, and while she would like to be more sociable and friendly, it's a difficult concept for her to grasp. She still enjoys being in the company of others, and thrives in situations where she can take a backseat in conversations while still being included.

She enjoys sleeping and lazing around when she has the luxury to do so. When crafting her new identity as Nyklos Bucina, She decided to overplay this trait, and so she tends to act comically lethargic, slurring or mumbling most of her words. This is mostly just a facade, and sometimes a coping mechanism for her. If the situation calls for it, she can and will drop this personality trait.

Likewise, her other masks tend to play out some personality traits better than others, both because of their different physical features and their different reasons for forming. This isn't an actual personality switch, and is more akin to method acting. Nyklos was crafted not long after her initial escape from the Creation Army, so she tends to be more tired, closed-off, and anxious. Dorian shows emotions more clearly and was created on impulse during a somewhat manic episode, so he tends to be more emotive and careless. Lyekoi was formed as an emergency identity, and was first used as a means of escaping a prison, so they're more flighty and inquisitive.

Biography

Background

The Young World is a cruel and dangerous place... The Great Divide happened centuries ago, cutting you off from the other half of the world. What remains of the known land is engulfed in a different kind of division: a violent civil war waged by the very Young God who was created to be your savior. The Creation Army is on a kamikaze mission to wipe out existence on behalf of the Young God, while the Kingdom of Wise Scholars protects those willing to pay the price of a corrupt, capitalist hellscape... — A Brief History of the Young World

22 Years Ago... The Changeling was kidnapped from their unknown home by the Creation Army. Seen as a valuable investment, they were raised as an asset within the ranks. As they grew up, they went by many names and identities, honing their abilities as shapeshifter and being used as an internal spy. Even as a young child, they were not only an investigator, but an executioner: crushing any potential uprising within the ranks. All their childhood they were treated as a means to an end, and nothing more. They became disillusioned with ideas of reality, completely separated from their sense of self, and desensitized to violence and death.Upon the 18th anniversary of their adoption, the changeling was assigned a field squadron. After months of training together, they would deploy, fighting on behalf of the Creation Army with their lives. Things didn’t go as planned, however; upon entering the field, the squad was faced with a violent storm. Lightning struck a tree. Fire spread. The changeling was separated from their family, left alone and unconscious in the woods to rot.4 Years Ago...The Changeling was discovered in the wilderness on the edge of the Kingdom of Wise scholars by a young drow named Ry.

Ry, a young dark elf.
Having just secured a studio apartment in the Capital City to attend the Everwise School of Magic, Ry was enjoying his last bout of rural life when he came across the seemingly lifeless body. They quickly tried to mask, but he reassured them he was a friendly face. The changeling, just trying to survive, reluctantly went with the optimistic and overly trusting drow, and moved in with him in the Capital City. Together, he helped craft them a new identity: A tiefling named Nyklos Bucina. Nyklos adopted this identity quickly and wore it constantly, even though she didn't entertain life outside the apartment much. She lived happily with Ry as a hermit, avoiding detection from the landlord. To pass the time, Ry left her the instruments he used to play in his hometown: a bugle, lute, and an old clarinet. She indulged—music was never something she was able to explore in the Army, and it was a passion for her. Over the course of four years, she adjusted herself to the new society, and bonded closely to Ry. She never told him about her past, and he never asked. Nyklos awaited the day Ry pressed into her past, or the day when her old squad would find and recognize her... But as the years passed, Nyklos let herself loosen up, and live more carefree like Ry did.

Pre-Campaign

Before the start of the campaign, Nyklos, known only as a Tiefling Bard, is evicted from a tiny apartment complex in the Capital City. Now homeless, she carries nothing with her but a few personal belongings, including a bugle gifted to her from her former roommate and only friend, Ry. Ry was a student at the Everwise School of Magic, just a few months away from graduating as a licensed wizard… But a few weeks ago, Ry didn’t come home, and vanished without a trace from the city.

Nyklos is an anxious hermit, wandering the streets and looking for clues as to what happened to her friend. She would give her life to find out any information at all.

Arc 1: Welcome to the Young World

Nyklos had been living in Everwise for around four years as a tiefling musician. When Ry vanished and the rent went unpaid, she was evicted onto the streets. She started rummaging around the trash cans in the local tavern, and was taken in by Garnilk, the barkeep, who provided her a place to perform, canvas, and eat. He even provided her a place to sleep in the secret speakeasy fight ring... On the day of a big fight, she meets two newcomers to the city. Thiav comes in to the tavern for the first time, as an energetic silver dragonborn offering to buy her a drink. She also meets Luna, a curious and tiny elf from an isolated colony who is (unknowingly) illegally studying wizardry, and who has no concept of money or capitalism. After the fight, she meets Björn—a cold and mature goliath who is the new champion of Garnilk's fight ring. The four of them get roped together while distracting members of the city guard.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances involving a member of the city guard (Nyklos didn't explode his head on purpose), the party ends up having to skip town, heading south into the forest towards rumors of a religious commune. Luna, who is enthusiastic about researching other kinds, seems surprised that Nyklos doesn't have the ability to see in the dark like other tieflings. The party fights a sentient tree in the woods. Nyklos, not used to fighting anymore, fumbles her sickle and is bloodied by the monstrosity. Eventually, though, the group arrives in Timberdale.

Timberdale is an overly enthusiastic community of folks from all walks of life, who believe that the Young God was never actually created. Instead, they believe that the Old God had failed in It's attempts to create a companion, and that in It's grief, It split the world Itself. Unlike the Creation Army, they believe that the best course of action is not to follow the orders of the gods to destroy the world... Instead, they believe that the Old God is susceptible to hope, and they plan to rejuvenate It's love for the world It created by worshiping It and the earth itself. Nyklos finds these beliefs favorable, if likely untrue. Hollydance, the pixie who leads the commune, tells the party that many of the members of the commune have met the Old God in person.

Tensions rise in Timberdale. The party members are given two living spaces between them to use for their stay. In the privacy of a home, Luna meets with the party and announces that she senses a fey spell being cast on the town, and that she is suspicious of an impersonator being at play in their religion... Nyklos agrees that this might be true, but that it's better to be left alone. Thiav has a similar sentiment. Luna leaves them alone to talk to Björn in private. While left alone together, Thiav admits that they believe in the Young God, and agrees with It's initiative to wipe out existence. They try to convince Nyklos that it's better and more acceptable for mortals to simply submit, and follow his orders. Nyklos immediately connects these ideas to the ideals taught to her in the Creation Army, and casts sleep on Thiav before running. When Luna and Björn enter, they question Thiav, who admits that their patron is the Young God.

When the party regroups, Luna tells the party that she is from the Plane of First Lives—the plane the Old God created before the Young World. She tells the party of Vazris and Validen, which are the formal names of the Old and Young gods respectively. She claims to know the truth of what happened, and begs Thiav to not submit to Validen, for the sake of her life. Thiav preaches religious freedom, but claims they still believe that they can coexist with the party. Nyklos announces that the Creation Army "took everything from her," and is hesitantly willing to compromise that she will tolerate Thiav's beliefs, so long as they don't consider joining them, with the promise of Thiav's death if they do. Thiav reassures that they aren't planning on doing anything like that, but that they don't appreciate the threat. The party prepares for an awkward dinner.

Rumors of Luna's connection to the Plane of First Lives spreads throughout the settlement due to nosy neighbors and thin walls. Hollydance requests that the party uses the Plane of First Lives as a bridge to the other side of the Divide, where she believes there may be answers to the existence of the Young God. Unable to return to Everwise, and anxious to get out of Timberdale, the party accepts the quest. Before they can leave, though, Björn has a mysterious encounter with Timberdale's "Old God..." Who later guides the party into the southern woods, where they immediately encounter a frankensteined creature of nightmares being led by three cultists.

This creature is a magical combination of the corpses of a lion, a bear, and a Dragonborn—who Thiav recognizes as their clutch-mate. Nyklos recognizes two of the cultists from the Creation Army, and nearly kills one. The two survivors end up being taken by the party for questioning during their long rest, but escape under Luna's watch... Not before they give the party some vital information, though: The Creation Army has taken the southwest mesa near the access point to the Plane of First Lives, and... To the dismay of Nyklos, they also have Ry.

After a solemn funeral for Thiav's brother, the party steals the robes from the remaining deceased cultist, and head off towards the southeast mesa. During the journey, Nyklos plans to tell the party of her former allegiance to the Creation Army, and makes subtle use of her shapeshifting abilities to create a brand on her clothed arm dictating a grunt rank to cover her tracks, since she was never able to be formally branded due to her abilities. When the party encounters a Creation Army spy in the woods, she reveals this brand in an attempt to cooperate with them, which fails. Instead, Luna spots a gemstone from her homeland on the spy, and orders Thiav to kill them. The party briefly questions Nyklos, to which she admits she had escaped from the Creation Army years prior, and that Ry was her sort-of savior. The party takes this at face value, and further agree to help her get him back.

The party eventually makes a camp just in-view of the mesa, which is guarded by a flying abomination called The Necromanticore. They plan disguises. Björn breaks off Nyklos's horns, so that she can comfortably pull a hood over her head and obscure her face. Björn will disguise himself as an Orc. Thiav will disguise themself as a tiefling member of the Creation Army. The three of them will claim to be a party from the northern swamp camp, and Luna will be their prisoner.

Eventually, the Necromanticore lands, and the party witnesses Creation Army troops marching down the mesa, and further away from them. They choose this time to strike. All is going to plan, and the three of them Bring Luna towards the other prisoners... Up until they discover that executions are about to start for the next abomination sacrifices—and Ry is next in line.

Luna summons her familiar, a tiny fox named Fee Fee, and casts a silent image around her to make her appear as a shadow monster. While casting spells though her and disrupting the spectators of the public execution, as well as the returning Necromanticore, the four of them are able to snag a very confused an malnourished Ry, and featherfall down the Mesa. As they flee, Fee Fee is discovered and downed, but not before taking some Creation Army grunts with her.

The party isn't quite out of danger yet. With Nyklos carrying Ry and Björn carrying a distracted and distraught Luna, they eventually find their way towards the portal: disturbed, and no longer disguised. They rush in without further question, to the sound of fighting in the distance.

The Creation Army made it here first.

Arc 2: Beyond the Boundary

Despite the sound of fighting in the distance, the Plane of First Lives is beautiful. The sky is full. It has a moon, and stars, which were both absent from the night sky of the Young World. Battle ranges in the distance, though. The party rushes in to a small settlement to see an army of around 50 or so Creation Army grunts forging their way towards a tree house in the town center. The army is currently being held off by a large bear, and a small elf of Luna's kind. The party cautiously engages with mostly ranged attacks, Nyklos especially taking care to distance Ry from the fray. The army, made up of mostly low-level grunts with no obvious leader, falls with suspicious ease. When the fighting ceases, the bear transforms to reveal himself as a tall, muscular elf. Luna rushes towards him and the smaller elf, recognizing them as her brother and father, Titan and Zin, respectively.

The elves are immediately suspicious of the rest of the outsiders, still partially in their Creation Army disguises. They are immediately escorted to a small, makeshift prison in the basement of one of the houses. Meanwhile, Luna investigates her home—and finds her mother to be missing along with a note stating that she will "return when it's safe." She regroups with the party, who is being watched by Titan, and escorts Björn and Thiav with her to talk to her father. Nyklos stays in the prison with Ry, taking care of him with Titan's company. Titan agrees to not only feed them, but help Ry meet with a tailor in the morning to get him proper clothes again. Nyklos thanks him, recognizing his hospitality and understanding the caution his family is exercising despite the circumstances. Luna and Björn, meanwhile, get in a shouting match with Vin, before Björn and Thiav are escorted back to the prison with food.

In the morning, it is decided that the party will be allowed to stay in the Pallid Grove, the elves' home, so long as they remain in the company of either Luna, Titan, or one of the town guards. Ry, feeling much better, is treated to new clothes, and is awestruck by the Plane of First Lives—a place he had assumed only existed in legend. While Luna investigates the portal, the rest of the party, including Ry, takes a walk with Titan towards the ocean—which had turned to tar in the Young World, but exists to reflect the stars in this one. They are mesmerized, and Thiav spreads their brother's ashes in the water. For a moment, all seems peaceful.

Eventually, the rest of the party reconnects with Luna near the portal to the Pallid Grove, and find her preparing for a ritual to speak to the Lunar Lady, the Grove's guardian deity. The party, sans Ry, decide to participate in the ritual, each eating the leg of a starfish, joining hands, and chanting an incantation that brings them to an unfamiliar plane. When they open their eyes, each member of the party stands in a circle formation in a plane of eternal darkness—and behind each of them stands a row of ancestors. Nyklos falls into panic, as she is face to face with an entire lineage of unmasked changelings whom she's never met, which also outs herself as one of them to the rest of the party. She breaks down into a vivid anxiety attack, with the rest of the party unable to help. Luna finds herself berated by her own ancestors for wanting to bring change to the grove, before the Lunar Lady finally appears, and whispers to Luna the unknown information she needs to hear...

When the party wakes from the endeavor, they find that Luna's father, Vin, has called a town meeting. He is planning a search party for his missing wife, and is leaving Titan in charge. At the end of the night, Nyklos comes clean to the party about her true nature, and the full extent of her involvement with the Creation Army. She described her "red test"—the test that was given to her when she was six years old to see if she had the potential to kill. She describes being rewarded for murdering two children and their mother, who was planning to escape from the army, all the way up to the moment Ry found her and she was able to escape, herself.

The last few days in the Pallid Grove go by mostly uneventfully. Nyklos goes shopping for a tarot deck, and instead comes across an item she had previously researched when looking for Ry: The Deck of Many Things. Knowing the nature of such an item, and still feeling uneasy about the possibility of the Creation Army returning and using it for themselves, she takes it for herself and hides it. The party prepares to head further into the Plane of First Lives.

The rest of the plane is unfortunately hostile. The party is lead by Gia, a fox-spirit similar to Fee Fee, with a connection to Titan. The Plane of First Lives is shrouded in a mysterious mist, that confuses travelers and sends them off in wild directions. Early into their journey, the party is almost killed by two water elementals, who successfully down Nyklos and Luna, before Ry is able to temporarily stun them so the party can escape without further conflict. They then come across a snowy region, inhabited by an Elk who runs at the sight of them, and a strange humanoid who can't see or react to them. Nyklos inspects them, memorizing their face, while Luna explains that the individual is likely dead, as parts of the Plane of First Lives are reserved for afterlifes. The party is then forced back through the mist by giant wolf spirits, where they flee from a blindfolded man bringing lighting down upon a grassy field, and a kraken trying to kill them. Eventually the party surfaces on a lake, where they find a strange faceless fey man fishing. He welcomes them into his home, and introduces himself as "O."

O asks the party about their travels, but becomes hostile when the Young God is brought up. When the party tries to calm him down, he reveals his true form, with a giant elk skull in place of his face. The party easily concluded this is the Old God, and attempt to deescalate the situation, to little success. He begins to talk down to the party, calling them worms, and any attempt to shift conversation only furthers His rage. When Nyklos admits she doesn't care about The Young God, and only wishes for refuge, He blames her for her own circumstance, which at first strikes fear into her, but later enrages her. Björn attempts to reason with the Old God, citing loneliness as a trait they both share. He explains how the people around him tend to turn up dead or missing, but the Old God only becomes more furious with this, wishing the party unsafe travels before vanishing completely.

The party is eventually able to make it through the portal, winding up in some abandoned ruins on the other side of the divide. They come across a tomb, with ancient writing on it, which Nyklos is able to translate. It describes the story of a boy from the mountains, who was cursed, as everyone who loved him seemed to meet a tragic end. The epic went on to describe the boy as he grew up, becoming a warrior, and he was eventually blessed by the gods with powerful runes and chains to become stronger. The story mirrors Björn's life, and so the party lets him dwell as they gather supplies to travel towards an inhabited settlement.

The party eventually enter a settlement inhabited by goliaths and strange humanoids who the party soon discovers to be humans, who were absent on their side of the divide. Nyklos disguises herself as the human they saw in the Plane of First lives, as a precaution. They soon learn that the people of this settlement have moved away from the central society, which is apparently ruled by a corrupt king. The settlement's Oracle, Agatha Truthseer, informs the party that they have a prophecy which details a group of adventurers who will emerge from a long-defunct portal during midsummer, and defeat the king. She believes the party to be these adventurers of legend, and invites them to take part in the upcoming solstice festivities. As the party settles down, they begin to realize the beliefs of the settlement: They believe that the Old God is evil, and that the Young God is yet to exist. As the party is taken on an Elf Hunt, Nyklos, as Dorian, relishes in the opportunity to take out their anger in a symbolic way.

In processing their trauma, the party parties too hardie, and (minus Bjorn) end up blackout drunk and put in timeout in the local, haunted, abandoned prison. Bjorn, meanwhile, stays a healthy amount of intoxicated as he spends time with Elkstalker. Through the ordeal, Nyklos unveils a mask she had been working on with Ry: Lyekoi the Tabaxi. The group escape the prison, meet up with Bjorn and Elkstalker, and are allowed back in town until the next day's end. During this time, Nyklos finds Ry and Luna together, discussing wanting to go home. They later call the party together. They're leaving back to the portal, to check on the Plane of First Lives, and find peace and home.

At first, Nyklos is heartbroken. But her recent shift in values prevents her from joining: her dark past will followe her everywhere. She was designed to a monster, and she'll never live as a civillian, especially not without hurting Ry... So she vows to fight for a better world for him, instead. The party goes their separate ways, and Bjorn, Thiav, and Nyklos head south out of town. It's there that they come across a merchant off the side of the road, fixing their wagon tire. She introduces herself as Morrigan, a "specialty" merchant. She recognizes the party from the festival, and invites them to travel with her.

Relationships

The Creation Army

While in the Creation Army, Nyklos served as an undercover internal investigator and, when needed, executioner. It was her job to disguise herself and weed out rebellions, uprisings, and delinquent activity. Since the sole purpose of the Creation Army is to rid the Young World of life, death like this was trivialized and never properly explained to her; this was all considered normal, and—as an obedient child with no sense of self—she never considered otherwise. Nyklos was given a "red test" at age six, due to her unique abilities, and given her first order to infiltrate a group of children and kill a woman who was helping them escape the army. In the sheer madness of it all, she also ended up killing both of the children set to escape—one of which was the child of the woman—and forced them to watch each-other bleed out. Since then, she was constantly working for her handlers, desperate for the little affection they would give her for completing tasks. She often found herself lost in the sheer amount of identities she was forced to assumed. As a result, she was never really able to decipher who she was as a person. She wasn't very popular.

As an adult, she looks back on the Creation Army as something dark and twisted. She feels that she was robbed of her childhood... Internally, she battles between having sympathy for those who are used by the Army, and hating them for what they did for her. For a long time, those feelings manifested as fear, and post-traumatic stress. The Creation Army continues to live in a dark part of her mind, causing anxiety attacks and living in old habits and mindsets that she's trying her best to break away from.

After rescuing Ry and coming clean about her past to the party, she still has a healthy fear of the Army, but it's no longer debilitating. More than anything, she wants to see the Army destroyed. She knows there is a darkness there that her allies have yet to see, and that the undertaking is too large at the current moment... But she now knows that it isn't a completely wild idea. Not for her. Not anymore. After her meeting with the Old God, she is enlightened to the idea that the Creation Army is not the fault of any mortal being, and she's set on punishing the gods as a means of revenge for it.

Ry

Ry is a young, trans male dark elf, who was studying at the Everwise School of Magic to become a fully-fledged wizard. Not much about his past is known, other than he was attending the school on a free ride, and had some sort of income to keep a small apartment while supporting another person under his roof. Ry is optimistic and extroverted, quickly (and dangerously) making friends with Nyklos without so much as knowing exactly who she was. Upon finding out she apparently didn't have a home, he invited her to move in with him in the Capital City, where he was studying. Ry was the first person Nyklos had met from outside of the Creation Army, and she sort of imprinted on him as a result, quickly finding family and friendship in him.

Ry helped Nyklos craft her new identity and persona. He also taught her music in his free time with some old instruments he used to play in his hometown, which inspired her to become a bard. Nyklos credits him with making her into a real person, and holds her new identity extremely close to her as a result. She owes herself to him, to a point that's bordering on an unhealthy obsession. He is her "person," and she'll do anything she can to keep him happy and alive.

As Ry has been traveling and making friends with the others in her adventuring party, she has become overwhelmed with anxiety that they might care for each-other more than they care about her. She does her best to give Ry space, knowing the trauma he's recently been through in the Creation Army, and doesn't act on these thoughts. Seeing how well Ry fits into the party dynamic compared to her, though, still hurts, and she isn't quite sure who's she's jealous of... Up until the point Ry announces that he's leaving the party.

Nyklos still worries about Ry, and wishes she could be with him... But she now sees that she's never going to be by his side without causing him burden. She was made to be a weapon, not a civilian, and her past is inescapable. So, instead she vows to fight to make the world better for him.

Luna

Luna is a tiny elf wizard from the Plane of First Lives. As such, she's rather unfamiliar with the customs and ways of life of the Young World (which particularly includes the lack of knowledge about how money works) and extremely curious about the kinds of people who inhabit the land. Luna reminds Nyklos a lot of Ry, with her blind optimism and skills in wizardry. Despite only having known each-other for a few weeks, Nyklos would like to think of Luna as a trusted friend. She feels safe opening up about her feelings and emotions with Luna. Nyklos, is, however, made increasingly aware that Luna is still cautious of of her. Ever since the encounter she had with Thiav in Timberdale, Nyklos feels like she's been seen as some sort of violent wildcard by Luna, and her recent encounters and revelations about her backstory haven't helped. Whereas Nyklos once felt safe slipping up in front of Luna, she now feels that she must prove herself to her, somehow.

While continuing to feel like she isn't good enough for Luna, it doesnt help when Luna and Ry start spending time together and engaging in friendly banner (Luna wants to kill Ry but Nyklos doesn't know that). When the two go to leave town together, she's distraught, but also feels free to explore herself without pressure.

Thiav

Thiav is a dragonborn warlock from the coast. At first, Nyklos found them a bit overbearing and extroverted, but a fine friend. As they revealed more about themself, though, Nyklos briefly found herself not only hesitant to trust them, but completely and utterly scared of them. Thiav's ideals reminded her of the propaganda ingrained in her by the Creation Army, and she was initially terrified of the power they held over her because of that. For a while, her behavior around Thiav was controlled by nothing but forced tolerance. When Thiav found out their brother's corpse was used by the Creation Army, Nyklos was immediately overcome by guilt, especially when Thiav swore against the Army. It also became a realization to her, that even though her and Thiav don't always see eye to eye, they are comrades. Thiav is strong, kind, and loyal to the party above everything else, and Nyklos finds that she can respect this despite his beliefs.

More recently, Nyklos has found herself trusting in Thiav more and more. Since their encounter in Timberdale, the two of them have saved each-other's lives a few times. In moments when it doesn't seem like Luna or Björn trust her, she can at least find time to blow of steam with Thiav, who seems to appreciate her company more. Thiav is the only member of the party who knows about her Deck of Many Things.

Björn

Björn is a goliath rune knight from the mountains. He seems nice, if a little stiff, and Nyklos appreciates him as a person, even if he is quiet about his past. He fights with chained weapons that protrude from his flesh, and claims that the gods did it to him. He often takes a fatherly role to the party, especially when looking after Luna, though he claims no allegiance to them. Nyklos finds Björn interesting, if a little intimidating. She never had a father figure growing up, though... Sometimes she finds herself mentally placing Björn in those kinds of hypotheticals. However, there are still some tension between them: Björn's selective mutism and Nyklos's difficulty with social cues is a recipe for miscommunications, which rarely end well. She often tries to give the goliath space, but she struggles with finding a balance.

After finding out about Björn's curse, and the way the Old God dismissed him for is, she has taken the mental role of defending him. The way she sees it, Björn was also wronged by the gods, and she believes that he might be her ticket in hurting them.

Trivia:

  • Nyklos is inspired by my other OC of the same name. They are separate characters though, with separate personalities, goals, and ambitions. (Similarly, Ry is an oc I've reused a ton of times.)
  • Other Inspirations include: Fin (Star Wars), Caleb Widogast (Critical Role), Lapis Lazuli (Steven Universe), and Tyzias Entykk (Hiveswap), Hunter (The Owl House).
  • I have a shrine of Nyklos on my Geocities website, here if you want to check it out. (Autoplay Warning)
  • Nyklos has never had pie. This has come up multiple times.
    • Specifically, Luna has baked a pie for every other party member (and various others) except Nyklos. Nyklos did not know what the delicacy was before Luna came along, but she really wants to try it, and she specifically wants to try one of Luna's pies, so she is abstaining from pies until then. She feels uncomfortable asking Luna for pie. She would rather Luna offer. She wants Luna to want to give her pie. This has turned into a really awkward unspoken courtship/unintentional innuendo/running gag.
  • Nyklos owns a Deck of Many Things that she took from the Plane of First Lives.
    • She's scared shitless about having it in her possession, knowing it's potential, but is even more terrified of it falling into the wrong hands. She has kept this item a secret from the rest of the party, except for Thiav, who she has ordered to "pick it off of her corpse should the worse happen" after they saved her from a deadly encounter.

  • "I've never met another like me. I rarely ever wonder about my parents... But in that moment, I imagined them. Who might they be? How excited might Luna be to meet them? Reality isn't so kind, though, so she'll have to settle for me. And I am not the Changeling any longer." - Journal notes, on Luna wanting to meet a changeling, session 2
  • "I'm terrified. The Creation Army... They took everything from me. If you even consider joining sides with them... I will end you." to Thiav, Session 3.5
  • "Look, leaving the Creation Army isn't easy! Most folks would have a better shot of just straight-up leaving this plane of existence! Which, yeah, I guess if I had a twig for each of those things happening to me, I'd have two twigs! I know that isn't a lot, but I shouldn't have any!" Session 6
  • "It's beautiful here... There is a moon. Stars! Water reflecting the sky, fish in the shape of five pointed stars." - Journal notes, on the Plane of First Lives, session 6
  • "No mortal is my enemy. Not even Bramble, or the Great Scholars. Evil people do not exist without circumstance—without evil creators—and we are pawns all the same. The real monsters are the Gods. And I am done being a pawn." - Journal notes, following the encounter with the Old God, session 10
  • "We were born irredeemable to a God who obviously doesn't care, so I may as well embrace it!" - Session 11
  • "I'm never going to be a peaceful homebody. I'm never going to escape my past; this pain. I was raised to be a weapon. Let me be a weapon. Let me make this world better for you. Safe for you." - Session 13
  • "Great, yeah, none of us have moms—back to my point-" - Session 14
