Profile

When he was born, they thought he was weak. They also thought he was a  girl. They called him Wrenn: he was everyone's pretty little blind  songbird. He was blind, but that didn't mean he was plunged into  darkness: the world around him was a swirling smear of color and light and utterly overwhelmed his young eyes. He had been left alone--she'd  be right back, his cousin had sworn, several hours ago--when someone  offered him relief. A man with a voice that burned cinnamon sweet had  found him and promised a golden cage, furnished with every comfort  imaginable. No more starving, no more cold, no more sweltering heat, no  more swirling colors. The price? Become his daughter. The wife was  unable to conceive children of her own, but she so wanted a pretty doll daughter to dote upon. Wrenn accepted.

He was whisked away to an opulent manor house to become a proper lady.  The wife fell in love instantly. He was sheltered from every stressor:  allowed not a moment alone--god forbid a misfortune befall  him--carefully guided through every lesson, and ultimately blindfolded,  to shield him from the ceaseless colors. It was a relief, at first, but  as the years wore on, he chafed against their safety net. No matter how  old he got, they still saw him as the helpless toddler he has been when  they found him, and comfort became suffocation. He craved independence  and practiced enduring the colors; he found ways to sneak out; he  hatched a plan. He was just missing one piece: help from the outside to  unlock the doors. That help showed up in the form of his cousin--Wynn--who somehow found him after so many years apart. Wrenn had nothing to lose. He trusted her, and they made their escape.

Wrenn wanted to badly to apologize to his lost family, but there was no  reunion to be had: the farmyard he grew up on was empty in a mystery not  even Wynn could answer. In that moment, Wrenn became Percival. He would  no longer be anyone's pretty little songbird, and he would find the  truth. Ever since, he and Wynn have been traveling together and looking  for any clues as to the fate of their lost family. To fund their  travels, they perform odd jobs and quick cons. Percival's intimate  knowledge of the aristocracy makes it easy for him to prey on his  targets' pity.

Personality: Percy tends to be formal and reserved. He can smile  and charm; he knows every rule of politeness, but underneath the surface  runs a deep and dark current of fury. He's never gotten over how he was  stifled, and that rage is constantly oozing through the cracks. He's  extremely single-minded and stubborn.

Interests: Percy enjoys board games, like chess, checkers, and  backgammon. He's especially fond of the theatre and concerts, when they  can afford to go (or sneak in). He dabbles with the piano and used to  enjoy singing, but it's been a long time. He has a plethora of poetry  memorized, and Wynn likes to listen to him recite it. Sometimes, she  helps him to learn new verses.
