Personality

I have seen the everlasting eclipse, and it was beautiful

Eclipse is the sort who always seemed to come in second place no matter what he did. He found that for his entire life he was cast aside for someone else, and was always in the shadow of someone the world deemed greater. It didn't matter how good he was, and he was talented, there was someone better out there. The world was unfair, he decided at an early age, and he grew bitter and vengeful. If he was to be permanently in the shadow of others, then he decided he would plunge the world in darkness. So that everyone would never get to see the light such as he. Eclipse succumbed to the world of villainy, and he carved out a name for himself as a super villain.

Despite his ultimate goal, Eclipse is not above petty mischief. He will cause trouble where he can just for the sake of doing so. Misery loves company, and it's a view he takes quite seriously. He loves to make other just as miserable as himself, and will do so by any means necessary. Considering he hasn't quite figured out how to create a world of darkness, he will settle for things such as darkening clubs or bars - places that people might normally hang out and have fun.

Notes
  • Eclipse is extremely sensitive to sunlight. It bothers his eyes and he is prone to easily burn. When outside during the daytime, which is rare, he will wear a long robe to protect himself from the light.
  • He wears a silver hoop earring through his left ear. When extremely irritated or agitated, he will often play with the earring. He does not raise his voice, but if he's touching the earring, it's a good indicator you should get away.
  • The golden highlights in his hair are likely from his school days, where he experimented with different ways to get noticed.

Super Powers

Any good villain has their own set of super powers, and Eclipse is no exception. There are some who believe his powers to be useless, but he had made good on them so far. His main talent is in manipulating lighting. He can cause a light bulb to flicker or go out entirely, and it is not limited to one. At his best, he can make an entire building go dark, though usually he is capable of doing so in a few rooms. The skill is not one he has entirely under his control. It can be tied to his emotions, and he has unintentionally caused blackouts.

Eclipse is also able to see in the dark, which is why he is so sensitive to lighting. He has found this to be very advantageous, as those he are fighting against tend to be useless in the dark. They will try to fight using night vision goggles and the like, but Eclipse is at his best in the dark. He will often have the upper hand.

While not a power, Eclipse is talented with science and technology. He is working on an invention to turn the world dark, and will also create inventions to aid in his fights against law enforcement and heroes. His crowning achievement is a set of small spheres that will allow him to teleport to various locations.

Gazing Below

Eclipse stood on the balcony of his high-rise apartment, leaning slightly over the iron-wrought railing that separated him from a certain plummet to the busy pavement below. It was a quarter after a midnight and still the streets teemed with people and cars, going about all sorts of matters. He stared at them, nearly unblinking. They were, he was certain, unaware of his presence six stories above. Even if he had not been perched like some sort of warped gargoyle he was sure they would not notice his presence. No one ever did.

The people below him were busy, but happy. They milled about with a purpose - each person knowing where they were going and what they were doing. It filled Eclipse with a sense of envy. How he wanted the same sense of happiness and purpose. Something that he felt had been denied him his entire life. His hands clenched against the railing, fingers twisting into the metal.

Behind him, the dirty lights in his squalid apartment began to flicker, ready to be doused in the wave of his increasing rage. His teeth began to grind, and the flickering of the lights quickened. It seemed they were about to go out when a heavy thud sounded outside the apartment, and Eclipse tore his gaze away from the street. The lights snapped back on, and everything returned to as it was.

Leaving the balcony in an almost trance-like state, Eclipse moved to his door and pulled it open. He could find nothing to account for the noise he had heard. It mattered little. In a place like this he was accustomed to all sorts of oddities. The door was closed, locked, and he slowly moved to his bed, once more consumed by his dark thoughts.

Trivia

  • Eclipse tends to speak softly, no matter what his mood might be. Even at his angriest he is quiet. He probably becomes quieter the angrier he gets, and then it will get to the point where his silences speak louder than words.
  • His one experience with having a girlfriend did not go well. More consumed with his work, he often ignored her. She eventually dumped him and went to his brother, which he blames his brother on. He doesn't bother with relationships now.
  • He is more of a nocturnal creature. He will sleep all day, and then wake as the sun is setting. It wasn't natural, but came out more as a result for his dislike of sunlight.
  • Though he is often kept too busy to indulge, he has an interest in molecular gastronomy. Preparing foods through more scientific means. He enjoys the experimentation.
  • Eclipse is surprisingly good at playing piano. He's mostly self-taught, and would use music as a way to help cope getting through high school. He is rarely heard playing by an audience.

Relationships

Venus

[ Sidekick ]
Venus would scoff at the idea of being a sidekick, but that's essentially what she is. Her goal is more customary, that is, she wants to take over the world. Venus has her own powers. She can cause things to heat up to extreme temperatures. She can melt items, but can also use this on humans. A very painful process for her targets. Venus aligns herself with Eclipse because she realizes he's smarter than her, and can help her achieve her end goals.

Planemos

[ Superhero ]
Every good villain needs a hero, and in Eclipse's story, that would be Planemos. Not much is known about her, but the city idolizes her anyway. She is adept at thwarting Eclipse's plans, much to his annoyance, and he's fairly sure that she is obsessed with him. Planemos has sent him to jail a few times, but he always manages to break out. Either on his own or with the help of Venus.

Donovan Trent

[ Brother ]
If there is one Eclipse hates more than Planemos, it would be his brother, Donovan. He feels that Donovan started the trend of him always being in second place, and it began by Donovan being the first born son. His brother always got the praise and rewards Eclipse felt he was owed, and it constantly ate at him. Currently, Donovan is at a work camp, sent there by Eclipse. Sometimes Eclipse will check in on his older brother, but he's never felt inclined to let him go.
