Maryen's past has been washed away by time (about a century or two)... But when he was still considered mortal, he was groomed as a chosen one; he spent his life quite piously in preparation of slaying the perpetuating demonic darkness of the land.
Of course, this wasn't some sort of random hat-draw by his priestly "family". He is part deity, one of the few and rare beings that has god-touch. Only the most sacred and thorough priests could sense this in Maryen's young age, however, so there had always been a sort of hushed manner in which the hero had been raised. It wasn't until the boy grew into his endless tasks and duties that he was gently let into the know about his still-untapped power, and as he turned into a man, he was finally given more rigorous quests to reveal his identity further.

Even then... It took his final battle against the underlord to reveal more of his divine heritage. His massive white wings and god's-tail near threatened to pull and rip from his skin to all writhe under the cruel lord's hands. Maryen had failed his life's mission-- and failed humanity at large-- when he was killed.
The underlord had no intentions of letting Maryen pass peacefully after daring to face him. It was the first creature to even attempt so, and he made an example of the little deity...
He brought him back from death, twisting the last of Maryen's mortality until he could no longer taste time. He was enslaved and treated like a lesson to any who would defy the evil lord. The 'hero' now often rests, in binding rope and accursed cuffs, trapped beside the one who had tamed him.

Most of Maryen's days now are quite unfulfilling and listless, but he doesn't have much control over that.
His appearance has been sullied over the centuries; an evil eye and horns of impurity have made their home in his appearance. Maryen himself is stubborn (rightfully so), still holding on to his rituals he was taught by his coven, but it does no good. He only hopes, now, that there are others to take his place, that maybe within the centuries, they will appear and finish his job, because... He's not sure he can ever escape this prison.

He often wishes for death though he does not dare say it. Never will he give the underlord the satisfaction of his temporary victory...

Personality

Due to his upbringing and the thorough shaping from his church, Maryen has a propensity to think highly of himself and his actions, no matter what outcome they bring along.
He sometimes can be stubborn in his humility (or lack thereof), but as he's grown older in his immortality, he has softened up on this quite a bit.
It's important to note that for being God-touched and taught many things about humanity, he wasn't as good as keeping up with his 'studies' as he should have been (this goes both ways, in studying himself and studying others)... He could be hypocritical, he could be bullish... And though he has grown into his enslaved position in the underworlds, he still holds out that stubborn, immature hope that he will break free, or be saved by the next in line.

Other than those important notes, he's quite astute when he's not moved by something to the point of hyper-focus; he can be impartial when it comes to other's problems and joys, it can be considered good and bad. If he were still mortal, this would be good grounds for becoming a leader of a kingdom or jury-- alas...

He used to be quite naive, thanks to his sheltered life as a mortal. Even in his enslavement, he still makes little mistakes when approached by others, when questioned by the evil underlord, etc.
He will default to seeing the pure and good in others as he was taught to do, though some do not have an ounce of that in their bodies.

Trivia

- He's one of the few people in the Goëtia folder that don't follow the same worldly conventions-- as in, he's not human, and the world he resides on is not entirely similar to earth, nor is it an 'advanced' society ala our modern times.
- This needs to be fixed, but he no longer has dragon-like scales all over his body :p
- He likes to act like he isn't vain, but it's one of the few things that entertains him in his enslavement now...
- He knows how to play an instrument that is akin to a piano/organ. On his world it's called a 'olynier'. He is a beginner at it, however-- and has a hard time multitasking the knobs and pedals while playing the keys, heehee.
