Eli

I've tried to use a compass before, but I always lose them.

Eli Mountainhooves

He/him . A wanderer . Always walking

Eli spends his days traveling the vast world he lives in. From cursed graveyards to giant dragons, he's seen a lot of things. His goal is to explore the entire world, being convinced that it actually has an end. Nothing will ever stop him except himself, and he will leave no rock unturned.

Being an adventurer, he has grown to fear little to nothing. There are some things that still surprise him to this day, but he's not one to ever turn and run away in fear. He typically faces situations head-on, but there are times where he's simply prompted to leave. This doesn't mean he's good at handling things though, as he often gets roped up into messes he finds difficulty getting out of. But that's just part of the adventure, isn't it?

A typical adventurer would use a compass to find their way, but Eli uses his scarf instead. It might not be accurate, but he's convinced that the scarf shows him where to go next. He waits for the wind to blow, and follows where his scarf points. When he doesn't have any wind, he uses things around him to figure out where he is. He'd use a compass, but he always loses them.

Eli travels with his best friend and companion, Finn. A goat. He ran into Finn on the beginning of his adventures, and is the sole purpose Eli continues to adventure to this day. Finn is a peppy, overly happy goat that loves to adventure by Eli's side, always helping in any way he can. He is also oddly indestructible, because whenever Eli loses him, he just comes back.

Story

Backstory

Eli was born into the Mountainhooves herd. A tight-knit group of horses that stuck together to survive in a harsh and snowy mountainous climate, fending off predators in large numbers and working together instead of against each other. They were respectable to each other, most of the time at least. There was of course the occasional drama between horses, but it was never bad enough to cause any true issues.

Growing up as the son of the lead stallion and a courageous mare, Eli got to learn a lot about herd-life. His father was a brave stallion, who swore his life to protecting his herd at any cost. He would often take Eli out on long walks throughout the mountains, showing him how to handle predators and how to protect the herd. His mother meanwhile was a very wise and kind mare, focused on handling any interactions involving the herd. She always handled situations calmly, never making them worse than they already were. She made sure to show Eli everything she knows, always with a lot of love and a caring heart. Eli loved it when either of his parents wanted to show him something, because it always meant he got to see something new. They had plans for Eli to become lead stallion one day, being proud of who their son was becoming.

His yearning for adventure started when he was only still a young teen. On an overcast, snowy day, the herd was moving up a steep slope of the mountain. They were migrating for the winter, wanting to move to a part of the mountains where the snow wasn't as harsh. Eli had fallen behind, due to it being his first migration. Everything was new to him, and he just couldn't stop looking at everything he passed by. It all happened when he realized the herd left him behind. He tried to find the herd, only to realize that they disappeared in the mist. Calling out for them, the only thing he attracted were oversized, treacherous mountain wolves. These predators had plagued the Mountainhooves herd for generations, taking out even the most strong of horses. The vicious canines circled Eli, threatening his life. What ever was he to do?

Eli did what he knew best. Most importantly, what his parents taught him. He knew better than to be afraid, so he stood tall and spoke with the confidence of his mother, and the bravery of his father. He negotiated with the wolves, saying that he would only be scraps, and that there was way more food out there. He pointed out where the herd would be going, but it was all a lie. He didn't actually know where his herd was going. It swayed some of the wolves, but not all of them. The most ferocious wolf of them all had been set on killing anything it could see, so it sprang forwards to attack Eli. Finally, he ran. Bolting across treacherous terrain, Eli rushed up and down cliffs to try and escape his attackers. Losing all but the ferocious wolf with wits and determination, Eli was cornered at the edge of a cliff by his final attacker. He swore it was over, until something came out of the mist. A stallion attacked the ferocious wolf that threatened Eli's life. His father. Eli watched in awe as his father battled the beast, earning several scratches across his face. He took the wolf and threw it over the cliffside, finally sending it to its death. His father was overjoyed to see Eli still alive. He praised him for wits and bravery, and took him back to the herd. Ever since then, Eli had been inspired to be just like his father. But, he couldn't help but want something more.

As he got older, the herd-life slowly grew boring to him. After two more migrations, he realized that this is all this life had to offer. He knew there had to be more out there. He had dreams of venturing out into the world, seeing if it was truly all just rock and snow. And one day, he finally decided to follow those dreams. Coming up to his parents, he announced that he would be leaving the herd. He wanted to see the world, to see what was out there and what more there could be. Hesitant at first, his parents concluded that they would have to let their son go. With a teary, heartfelt goodbye, Eli bid his herd farewell.

"Come back someday, tell us what you've seen."

And that he promised. Looking back one last time, he saw his parents stuggling not to cry. They looked to him, even then, being proud of him. He had nodded his head, and finally left.

Upon beginning his venture, he came across a green, patterned scarf roped around a branch, blowing in the wind. Seeing it as a sign that he made the right choice, he took it and put it on, following where the scarf had originally been pointing. The night of his travels, a terrible blizzard broke through the mountains, making it nearly impossible to walk. Eli struggled and struggled, slowly beignning to crumble under the pressure of the storm. His breaking point was when the wind tore his scarf from his neck, blowing it over a set of cliffs. Defeated, Eli was convinced that maybe this life wasn't for him. As he turned around and began to walk back to his herd, a loud sound echoed out past the wind. It was odd, and familiar. It sounded like a goat. Turning back and looking over the cliffs, he discovered a goat standing on a ledge, holding his lost scarf. It had a mysterious bell around its neck, and it was happy to see him. It was at that moment Eli knew, he was a traveler. Naming the goat Finn, the two were immediately inseparable.

Ever since then, Eli and Finn had been venturing the wilds. Leaving behind the mountains and seeing new lands, meeting new faces. They encountered savage beasts, friendly horses, mysterious dungeons and so much more.

But yet their adventure has only begun, and it still has so much more left to explore...

The two ended up having a lot in common, so they became traveling companions over time, venturing treacherous land and meeting strange faces together. Eli originally was someone who wandered alone, but he's grown to greatly enjoy Opal's company, to the point he may have just fallen for her, head over hooves.
