About
Valerie is a florist for hire and apprentice photographer. Additionally, if it wasn't obvious, she has a real penchant for emo and scene fashion. She got it from her older sibling, Gabby, whom she confides in quite often. She's very, very shy, which makes it hard for her to stand up for herself or even speak to people at all. The only people she talks to often is her siblings and their friend group... and even then, she finds it hard to talk to some of them too. The only thing that helps Valerie leave her bubble is floristry and photography -- in terms of her work, she's a very hardworking go-getter. With her customers at her florist shop, she finds it quite easy to talk to them about business, but small-talk is nearly impossible for her.
Generally, Valerie is very passionate about their work. In terms of floristry, Valerie loves to experiment with arrangements to see what works and what doesn't. When hired to make an arrangement, they plan it out right away, and then almost jump into their work. They love what they do, and in all honesty, they do it pretty well. As for photography, they've taken an apprenticeship with a professional photographer, who shows them the ropes with photographing nature (which is Valerie's specialty), people, and pets. They're really excited about this opportunity, and are really grateful for their mentor.

Backstory
past
Valerie's early childhood was really rough. She and Gabby's parents were very neglectful and abusive. The two siblings often had to fend for themselves, which was a very big struggle for Valerie. She's quite weak and very timid, so it was very hard for her to do anything at all. She only really found solace in playing outside, particularly in her neighbor's garden. At the age of four, she ran away with their older sibling Gabby, where they were promptly found and taken to a children's home. Several years later, they were adopted by an American family, and thus moved overseas to the United States. At the facility and with her new family, Valerie found it hard to speak with people, due to her major timidity.
Present
Nowadays, Valerie is working hard to overcome their meekness and become more comfortable with talking to people. They haven't made much progress when it comes to small talk (save for the fact that they're comfortable with talking to their siblings' friends), but when it comes to work-related conversations, they're coming out of their shell just a bit. They could talk on and on about floral arrangements with their customers, but finds it virtually impossible to talk about non-floristry created topics. As for photography, they're comfortable with talking about it with their mentor, family, and friends... but not anybody else. Still, they're very passionate about their hobbies, and use them as an easy way to break past how timid they are. As for their school life, they're a high school junior, but they take photography classes at the university their mentor teaches at. They don't really do well in any STEM classes, nor are they good with history, but they do excel in English and art classes. They really can't wait to graduate to focus on photography.

Gabby Rutherford [ Older Sibling ]
Valerie's older sibling and best friend. They've shared almost all the same past hardships, which obviously makes them incredibly close. Valerie tends to depend on Gabby for a lot of things, considering that they're much more outspoken and confident than she is. As a result, Gabby is rightfully protective of their younger sister. Valerie is really grateful to have someone as dependable as Gabby as an older sibling -- she really loves them a lot.
Alice Massey [ Sister ]
Valerie's (and Gabby's) adoptive sister. The two get along pretty well, but Valerie is a bit annoyed by Alice's enthusiasm for Valerie getting out of their shell. Because Alice is so extroverted, and knows that Valerie would like to learn how to talk to people, she tends to really try to get them out to talk to people. Valerie is happy that Alice wants to help, but they feel like she is a bit overbearing. Still, despite this, Valerie and Alice get along very well, their sisterly bond being particularly strong. Like their older sibling Gabby, Alice also tends to look out for Valerie, which they greatly appreciate.
Valentine Harvey [ Friend ]
Valentine is Alice's girlfriend. Valentine is very sweet, kindhearted, and has wonderful intuition, so she knows how socially anxious Valerie is. Because of this, she tends to do what she can to make sure she doesn't make Valerie uncomfortable. Valerie really appreciates this, but is still a bit shy around Valentine. Either way, she considers Valentine to be a friend of hers, and the both of them understand that Valerie just needs some time to warm up to her sister's girlfriend.
Reese Lyndon [ Acquaintance ]
Gabby's coworker and friend. Valerie met them while going to work with Gabby one day. Valerie thought Reese's style was rather interesting and cool, but naturally, they are pretty shy around them. Reese understands and is as friendly as they possibly can be to Valerie, which they greatly appreciate.
Penny Löfgren-Cremona [ Acquaintance ]
One of Gabby's other friends. Valerie met her when Gabby invited her to their house, and in all honesty, she was terrified. Although Penny is about as talkative as Gabby is, Valerie is still a bit perturbed by these mannerisms coming from people who aren't Gabby. Penny tries to be friendly with Valerie, but it just doesn't entirely land well. Valerie is horribly afraid of Penny, but eventually she'll come around.
