Appearance

Kalidasa is a unicorn. He has a thin, golden horn set with rubies protruding from his forehead and a long horse tail that's partially braided. His eyes are a magenta color. Despite the fact that he lazes around all the time, he's pretty muscular and healthy-looking just because he's a Devora and able to alter his appearance. Being too lazy to put his clothes on properly, his outerwear is usually fallen around his waist. He rarely wears shoes because he finds them restrictive and anyway he tends to hover a little above the ground as opposed to walking directly upon it.

Personality

  • languid/lazy/sleepy
  • graceful
  • critical/intolerant of others
  • introverted/soft-spoken
  • sadistic/unempathetic

His manner is very languid, but Kali's movements are graceful and efficient because he doesn't like to waste energy. He has impeccable posture and manner though he often gets too sleepy to sit or eat properly. From time to time, his head will droop due to the weight of his horn being too much for his neck to hold up. It's a common sight to see Kali slumped over a table with his head down.

Kali mostly keeps to himself and generally dislikes other people, but he makes an exception for other Devoras provided they aren't too loud. He doesn't talk a lot, preferring to listen to what others say, and is fond of stories—especially ones about travel. However, Kali's easily bored so he won't hesitate to float away if he finds a story too dull. Kali spends quite a lot of time reading and daydreaming.

He feeds upon wasted potential—people with great talent or fates who for some reason or another spend their lives not living up to it. If he can tempt someone to be slothful and squander their potential, he always will. Kali particularly enjoys watching people despair when they find out all that they were destined for but could not achieve. He has a great eye for talent, particularly creative, and is drawn to those who have it. This makes him somewhat more dangerous than other Devoras because he doesn't seem to care even about preying on other Devoras since it's the wasted potential itself that he likes to see. In humans and Venias, the result is a corrupted soul that he can eat, but that's not his aim. He is basically a corruptive influence without even trying and he doesn't care who he influences or tempts.

History

Kalidasa is very old and is rumored to be the inspiration for unicorn imagery in ancient times as seen in Indus Valley Civilization culture. He enjoyed the poems of the Classical Sanskrit writer by the same name in the 5th or 6th century, so he took the name upon the man's death. It amuses him that the unicorn legacy among humans paints them as majestic creatures who love innocents when he himself loathes ignorance and innocence in anyone.

He spent a long time wandering and latched himself onto poets and musicians primarily, tempting them away from creating masterpieces or pursuing meaningful relationships with other people. This is possibly why a lot of genius creatives die alone and destitute. Though his sin is Sloth, he is more than happy to lead people into other vices because the result is the same.

In the present day, he spends a lot of time in both the human world and Elysium Fields, pulling away easily-tempted Venias with the promise of great knowledge or power just because he feels like it. It's rumored that Kalidasa is one of the most powerful Devoras, but no one has ever seen him fight and lived to tell the tale. He often crashes at Aeneas' place in the human world.
