Appearance Description: A petite young man, Jason is only 5'2" and skinny, with hints of curves. This in addition to his high-pitched voice often makes him look younger than he is. He has pale skin, short black hair, and blue eyes. He smiles often, trying to appear open and confident, though it rarely reaches his eyes. Jason's not usually outwardly self-conscious except in certain situations, like when he catches himself walking with a sway.

Jason hasn't quite discovered his personal style yet. He prefers darker tones and always wears pants rather than shorts. He also always covers his arms with bandages when he's too hot to wear long sleeves. He can partially shift horns and wings.

Dragon form - Jason's dragon form is coloured in shades of brown. In this form he has two large wings, two legs, a long tail, spines along his back, and two horns. When he's not hunched over, he's about the height of an adult grizzly rearing up on two legs. But he usually hunches over because he's not used to this form and it feels weird being technically naked all the time. 

Personality Description: 

Aesthetic Board

Jason tries to come off as an average guy. In school he kind of faded into the background, neither popular nor an outcast, with a small circle of friends who he hung out with. Not particularly academically inclined, though he does well when he can write about topics he's interested in, such as various mythologies and dinosaurs, Jason is also not a jock. He was in figure skating and did okay at it, but he didn't enjoy it much; just did it to keep his parents happy and be part of a team.

Living as the middle child with unsupportive parents, Jason always felt obliged to keep everyone else happy. His nominally Christian upbringing only added to his confusion. He still has the tendency to not want to make waves. In an attempt to keep his masks and wrestle control of his body Jason has harmful habits of hurting himself, undereating, and overexercising.

Since the curse Jason has become more insincere in his interactions. He feels like there's no point in trying to be honest when it just makes everyone think he's a liar. He still tries to tell lies as close to truth as possible because he can fake sincerity when he's actually lying. But this is exhausting. So he throws himself into fakery to take it off his mind, tries to have fun with lying when he can, makes up stories, pretends he's okay.

One of Jason's only comforts are the few things he can be honest about (even though some people still don't believe him anyway.) This led him to come out as trans when he arrived on Manta Carlos. And he gets happy whenever people use his chosen name. He has become slightly more open but also somewhat fatalistic. He can't see a future for himself and has given up on his dream of becoming a paleontologist someday, maybe with a family and kids of his own. 

Active Abilities: 

Dragon/Human Shifting - Can shift between dragon and human form. Can also partially shift wings and horns. In dragon form is strong enough to throw a large cow with their mouth, can fly as fast as a peregrine falcon, scales are tough enough to resist small arms fire, and claws can slice through bone like butter. Partially shifted can only glide.

Muddy Breath - Can breathe out a stream of mud that could cover an adult human in seconds. Just normal adobe-type mud.

Passive Abilities: 

Can't Force Truth - Anyone attempting to read his mind would just get white noise. Magic, such as truth potions, that would force truth render him mute for the duration.

Weaknesses: 

Pathological Liar Curse - When he attempts to tell the truth he's forced to lie instead. He can still write true statements. But he can't indicate he's under a curse or forced to lie in any way, including in writing. Can't remove curse with null bracelet. It can only be removed by original caster (Or a more powerful deity.) Curse does not apply to any questions of his identity - name, gender, sexuality, age, species.

Biography: A Canadian, born and raised in a small town in Alberta, Jason was the middle child of a middle class family of nominal Christians. He had a fairly average childhood, which probably would have been pleasant if he hadn't been raised as a girl. At school he pretty much stayed under the radar, had a few friends, wasn't overly bullied, and just seemed "normal."

Jason was closer than his siblings to his archaeologist aunt who was always traveling and who his family disapproved of. At some point in his early teens he came out as a lesbian because he thought that might explain his confusion. His family just said it was a phase and pursued him to be more like his older sister instead of his aunt. He believed he was lucky because even though his family was ignorant and dismissive enough that he felt he had no one to turn to, they were never obviously hostile.

The summer after his graduation he was allowed to travel with his aunt on a dig. A mistranslation of a small amulet in a tomb made him believe it would solve his problem, so he took it and wore it. He wasn't even going to steal it, but he'd already woken the tomb's guardians and one of them struck him with a curse and took back the amulet. The other guardian felt sympathy for Jason, finding him to be a kindred spirit, and not particularly liking the first guardian either. They only managed to partially nullify the curse, so they granted him his dragon form and sent him on his way.

After the trip he returned to his home, intending to go to university. Jason didn't get accepted into university and his job search did not go well. He got into uncomfortable arguments with his parents. Things started to fall apart as people moved away after graduation, and meeting new people with the curse was nearly impossible. He began getting away by finding isolated places to transform into his dragon form. Then he was eventually not careful enough and got caught. Scouts brought him to Manta Carlos not long after that.

Jason hasn't been on Manta Carlos very long. He told his parents he got a special opportunity elsewhere, but just took the first job he could find. He still hasn't come out to any of his family either.
