Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Shoulder-length light brown hair with dark brown "streaks"
  • Light brown eyes
  • Tan skin
  • Medium in height, about average for his age
  • Physically fit with a scrappy build, although he seems far too lightweight for his height and build

Clothing Style

Calik's clothes almost always torn at least mildly from too much dangerous activity. Every time he gets a new pair of pants they get torn somehow, usually because of crashing on his skateboard or bike (or the awful dog that lives across the street). Calik almost always dresses very casually with a mild skater style, although he's not into logos or specific brands. He greatly prefers earthy colors over bright or vibrant hues. He almost always wears gloves, a headband, and knee and/or elbow pads under or over his clothes, usually under if he's not specifically doing physical activities like skateboarding or biking or whatever. He'll also often have a pair of protective goggles on hand, or on his head.

His most common look consists of a light brown long sleeved shirt with separated sleeves and a single brown diagonal stripe across the abdomen. He wears this with a pair of pants with multiple stripes across the legs (the pants can be light brown with green stripes or green with brown stripes), along with two belts around his hips. He also wears light brown fingerless gloves, brown shoes that have the traction completely rubbed off from too much use, and a brown headband. He tends to wear brown the most so getting dirty doesn't show up quite as easily.

Personality

Calik is a fun-loving and excitable young man who has a habit of injuring himself frequently while seeking out thrills. He has a daring and somewhat reckless personality, and he tends to be pretty inattentive and winds up getting hurt so often that the people who know him well hardly even react to it anymore. However, he tends to shrug off injuries rather easily, and even the ones that actually take him out for a while don't seem to affect his usually optimistic mindset and cheery personality. He is an incredibly honest and sweet boy who is a bit innocent and naive for his age, but he always means well and tries his best. He's fairly good at remembering things that don't involve busy work or most core subjects in school, otherwise he has trouble retaining information and tends to come off as an airhead. He doesn't do very well in school, but he always puts forth his best efforts and does better with hands on work rather than being taught something verbally. Calik is extremely active and has trouble sitting still, and he tends to have a rather short attention span unless he focuses entirely on the task at hand. He can be quite the handful to keep up with, but he is very loyal to those he cares about and is very earnest with his affections.

The main thing that most people note about Calik is his amount of energy and how he jumps into thrilling activities without really thinking ahead. He rarely seems to look before he leaps, and it's extremely common to see him crashing into obstacles or other people on his skateboard, while running, or even when his apparently lack of regard for physics just decides he's not going to make a safe, clean stop. Calik seems capable of taking impacts without much trouble, such as falling off of things or getting hit by cars (which has become a common sight in his neighborhood), although he wouldn't be able to tell you why. He comes off as very much a hyperactive child who bounces back rather quickly when things go wrong, but he can be pretty easy to get along with and can chill out rather quickly when in the company of others who simply ask him to do so. Calik acknowledges he's not a very intelligent person, but he has the impression that he's better off following the instructions of others when they are given to him since he probably doesn't know what's best for him. This does mean he can be a bit easy to manipulate, but he's moral enough to not mindlessly go along with something he knows isn't right. However, it's clear that among his friends he tends to be a follower and takes orders rather well, and he does his best to cooperate with others and likes for everyone to get along if possible. He can be a little bit shy around strangers, but otherwise he is usually outgoing and very approachable and friendly.

Abilities

  • Eterniti rifting - rank 0/5, can reach deity levels when connected to Lord Dalia; hasn't figured out how to rift on his own yet
  • Crystalia rifting - rank 0/5, can reach deity levels when connected to Lord Dalia; hasn't figured out how to rift on his own yet
  • Extremely high pain tolerance
  • Capable of surviving injuries that would normally be fatal for no discernible reason
  • Extremely fast at running/sprinting
  • For whatever reason he hardly seems to obey the laws of physics, especially not friction
  • Skilled at playing various percussion instruments, particularly drum sets
  • Skilled at dancing and singing, particularly for the spontaneous musical numbers that pop up at school
  • Skilled at skateboarding and riding bikes, but even though he can do a lot of tricks and can get pretty technical with them, he still crashes a lot
  • Fluent in English and Egyptian Arabic

Strengths

  • Optimistic, compassionate, and moral
  • Honest, loyal, cooperative, and mellow
  • Supportive, nonjudgmental, and humble
  • Easy to talk to, a good listener, and trustworthy

Weaknesses

  • Basically useless in most fights and is extremely accident/danger prone
  • Naive, not terribly bright, and even very basic concepts sometimes go over his head
  • A daredevil that is always seeking thrills and usually ends up injuring himself somehow
  • Has absolutely no idea how to use his supernatural powers on his own

Backstory

Calik was born in a protected, secretive rifter community in Egypt where the population was hidden from non-rifter societies, yet they were aware of the Eternity outside of Taliac. He grew up with his parents, Joseph and Alliyah, and his older brother, Erik. His father worked for a computer company based in America and worked remotely in Cairo after they moved there from the rifter community.

When Calik was 6 years old, his father traveled to Japan for work related business, and Erik managed to convince him to take him along. Although the trip was only meant to take a few weeks, an earthquake in Japan disrupted flights out and delayed them returning home. It was also during this time that Joseph and Allison had intended to move to a rifter community in Nebraska, since that community had more resources to properly train their sons to use their rifting. Even though Joseph and Erik were unable to return home on time, Allison and Calik had to take their flight out without them. She raised Calik in Nebraska on her own, worried for her family's safety since she had no contact with them after they first departed. However, they were able to regain contact with them after meeting Joseph's older sister, Kristine, who lived nearby the rifter community in the next city over.

Calik has been living with his mother in the Hateulots community ever since and attends the private school for rifting families. He is slowly trying to learn what's so special about him, but he still hasn't figured out quite how to access his rifting yet. It's obvious though that they've been passively making him stronger and more resilient since he seems to survive severe injuries and recover from them rather quickly (and he has a terrible habit of getting hit by cars, so it's a good thing too). Apparently he along with his brother and cousins are the first of the recent Dalian bloodline to show any rifting capabilities, meaning one of them is likely to be Lord Dalia's next host. However, his oldest cousin, Derek, seems to have no noteworthy rifting abilities, Erik was attacked by the Deyth Element during their separation and now has a dangerous connection to the deity, their cousin Kally was killed years ago, and their last cousin Alec seems unable to control his abilities along with having an unstable Soul Prism.

At the moment, Calik is the best potential host, and although his powers retain their full potential and he would be fully capable of taking on the role with training, he still had to overcome the issue of being unable to actually tap into his rifting. This all remained unknown to him growing up though, and up until he turned 14 he just assumed he was another kid who was having trouble finding his rifting potential. Only time will tell if he'll be ready for the looming war rising with the return of the Demriles and Yashana's double.

Trivia:

  • Calik getting hit by cars is a running joke at this point. If asked why he doesn't look both ways before he crosses the street, he always insists that he does. The problem is he doesn't know what those "both ways" should be and he assumes they're forward and back.
  • Calik's favorite activity is sky diving, especially without a parachute. Most people ask him how that works, and he just says it's a lot like free falling. Because it is. That's all it is.
    • Don't ask how he hasn't died from it yet. He makes it a personal challenge to make the most artistically shaped hole in the ground when he impacts.
  • He usually gets to school on his skateboard, and he has never gotten there without crashing into something.
  • He and Nicole seem to have some kind of disastrous magnetism for each other and will end up crashing into each other without fail when in the same area.
  • His incompetence in math is somewhat unbelievable. He's trying his best, okay? He receives a lot of tutoring, but even the most basic concepts tend to stump him. He has no idea why it's so beyond him, and it's probably the author's fault.
  • If he's not skateboarding to school, he's usually getting a ride from Camel. Camel tends to be the only one who can keep Calik from hurting himself while getting from point A to point B (excluding any of the instances when Calik just falls right off his back).
  • Calik is about as clueless with romance as he is with any other aspect of his life. He doesn't really think about it and tends to just like whoever he likes without looking any deeper into it.
    • His first kiss was actually from Darian because of a dare. Calik's not entirely sure what to think of the matter aside from the fact that Nicole got mad at him for kissing Darian before she could. Darian hardly remembers the event because he didn't think much of it at the time.
    • When they get a little older, Calik kind of gets the sense that he is "in a thing" with the Gal and Darian, but he doesn't really know what to call it. He knows he's best friends with both of them, and Darian gradually gets into the habits of saying that both the Gal and Calik are "his" and usually remarks that "they're both mine." Calik isn't really sure if he can call either of them "girlfriend," "boyfriend," or "galfriend," etc. But he doesn't really think too deeply about it.
  • Calik originally was made from a separate character that hung out with Camel. This character was simply referred to as "Slurp Mon" (as in "Slurp Man" pronounced a bit off), and Calik's general design was made as a less goofy version to interact with more of my other characters.
  • He's not entirely sure why, but he really enjoys going shopping with his friends. He rarely actually buys things, but he likes going places and seeing things that they could buy. He particularly likes clothing stores despite not knowing really anything about fashion. He just enjoys seeing a lot of different kinds of clothes and assembling weird outfits with his friends, usually the Gal or Darian, without the intention to buy them.
    • He likes seeing other people browse stores since you can get a feel for what a person likes and how their personality works judging by the things that catch their eye.
    • He also ends up accompanying his mother on shopping trips frequently, so he comes up with a lot of ways to entertain himself while there.
    • It’s a running joke that he slips and falls down in every store he walks into. It usually happens the second he steps inside, although he’s not really sure why.
  • When he was originally created, he had a bit more control over his rifting and abilities related to Lord Dalia, although he still had a little trouble getting it to work every time. His signature attack of sorts was growing crystal claws from his hands, similarly to how Alec grows the crystals from his shoulder down his arm as a weapon. At first these claws were more "poison" aligned, but they turned more crystal-like once I developed Lord Dalia's lore a bit more.
    • He no longer has this ability since he was developed to not be able to use his abilities and rifting at first, but he might still use his claw abilities when he grows up and gets the hang of things.
  • One of his favorite games is called "Jump Over It or Get Demolished." It's not difficult to guess the rules of that game. It's been banned on school grounds.
  • Camel is somewhat of a babysitter for Calik since he seems to get himself into a lot of trouble outdoors. When at home, Tabby tends to keep an eye on him if he has no other supervision.
  • His birthday is on July 18th.
  • Accidentally dropped his mother's piano off their apartment balcony once, and it almost landed on the Gal and Darian. Don't ask how he managed to accidentally drop a piano when he wasn't even trying to move it anywhere.
  • Pretty much all the pants he owns are ripped in some manner. He says it's a combination of ripping them from his various physical accidents and also the mean dog that lives across the street that always ends up ripping any non-ripped pants he might wear outside.
  • Calik really likes karaoke, although he usually can only do songs he knows well ahead of time because he has trouble reading in general, so reading lyrics he doesn't know already can be a little difficult sometimes.
  • His favorite color is green.
  • His favorite kind of animal are kangaroos.
  • He has a condition he calls "uberarachnophobia" which is apparently the fear of extremely large spiders. He's not afraid of regular spiders, but once they start becoming larger than a dog, he has problems.
    • You'd be surprised how frequently he's encountered these things.
  • His go-to exclamation of positivity is "rockadelic!" Also tends to call things "rad" or "radical," or even "radidelic" if they're super raaaaaaaad
    • Calik has a kind of a mix of a skater/surfer dude manner of speech just because as a child he watched a lot of movies about extreme sports. The "cool dude" stereotypical manner of speech has rubbed off on him a lot.
  • Although he doesn't speak Egyptian Arabic much now that he lives in Nebraska, he still sometimes speaks it with his mother, especially if she wants to privately tell him something with others around. He sometimes speaks it around his brother too, and more sparsely with his father since Joseph is much more rusty with the language and wouldn't have considered himself fully fluent in the first place, whereas Erik and Calik learned while growing up in Egypt. Calik is probably more fluent than Erik simply because Calik lived with their mother and was able to learn from her throughout his life.
  • Calik's not exactly sure what he wants to do in the future, aside from probably having to fulfill his role as Dalia's Host. He thinks maybe he could put his death-defying existence to good use by being a stuntman, since he enjoys doing adrenaline-pumping things in general and already is quite the stunt junky.
    • Some of his classmates refer to him as "Daredevil Dalian."
  • Extremely ticklish and pretty giggly in general.
  • His family would probably be in horrendous debt if Jack didn't cover all the medical bills he racks up from all his injuries.
  • Calik ends up being very close friends with Tobi almost immediately after Tobi moved to the school system and they started classes together. They probably have the most similar energy when it comes to doing exciting activities while out and about. Tobi had a habit of jokingly flirting with Calik due to how much time and “good chemistry” they seemed to have, although Calik was always oblivious to the flirting and never understood the joke (or even registered it as a joke at all). This only led Tobi to be a little more overt and ridiculous with his mock flirting to see how far it needed to go before Calik understood what was happening. He never quite gets it though. ^^;
    • As they got older though, Tobi’s flirting was a little more genuine as he got more comfortable with his sexuality. By this time he was already in a relationship with Moni though, so his flirting with Calik is still somewhat teasing in nature. Moni has no issue with this, especially considering he‘s been doing it for so long and Calik still doesn’t really get it.
    • There is a song on both Calik’s and Tobi’s playlist that I associate with both of them just by musical vibe. Oddly enough though, if you listen to the actual lyrics, it’s a kind of romantic song. So it being associated with the two of them kind of implies they slept together just from some of the lyrics. XD It’s not the case, but Tobi would certainly joke about it.
    • ”Yeah, maybe we did sleep together. Calik is a great cuddler. And that’s literally it. I think Calik thought we were having a sleepover... I’m not sure how he missed all the context clues, but it doesn’t surprise me.”
    • Tobi has stated for the record that he would only “do anything real” with Calik if two conditions are met. 1) Calik has to bring it up first, which honestly will probably never happen. 2) Moni has to give him permission first. Moni doesn’t actually care either way, so it’s mostly on Calik. And Calik remains pretty oblivious to it all.
    • He has joked that “kissing Calik requires getting permission from like 4 or 5 different people first, there’s just too much paperwork.” The people he’s referring to are probably Calik himself, Moni, then Darian and the Gal, and then jokingly probably also Calik’s parents or even Camel.
  • As an adult, Tobi has a running joke of when he encounters Calik anywhere, he will teasingly/flirtily make some comment along the lines of: “Oh hello~ Who is this pretty little thing?” He finds it funny that Calik commonly responds with: “Tobi, you know it’s me. You should probably talk to your doctor about that,” in a completely genuine manner.
    • Calik at first commented to Moni, “I think Tobi should go back to see his doctor, he keeps forgetting who I am. But that’s okay, he always seems excited to see me anyway.” Moni told Tobi about it, and he finds it hysterical and perpetuates the running joke out of curiosity to see how long it takes Calik to catch on. And of course, he never does. It probably takes several years before Tobi finally explains that he’s just teasing him.
  • Tobi will sometimes teasingly remark to Darian whenever he is flirting with Calik that he is “stealing your man.” Darian usually only comments back with something like, “You slut.” He doesn’t actually care, of course. Calik interprets it as “stealing him away from Darian“ in terms of taking his time, rather than “stealing your lover” in any sense.
  • There is a running joke that Calik doesn’t know any “curse words“ because everyone is so careful to not curse around him, for he is apparently too pure and innocent for such things. Part of the joke is that even if someone does manage to curse around him, Calik either doesn’t even hear it or he apparently “blacks out” for a few seconds and doesn’t register it at all. This “blacking out” can either be him spacing out or he will literally faint upon hearing foul language. This might be the Creator being dumb about keeping this clumsy cinnamon roll from learning bad words…
