Akinosuke

Akinosuke - A young adult man (he/him) with shoulder-length brown hair that he keeps tied up in a ponytail, and sharp pink eyes.  He’s a few inches shorter than the average height, and he’s far from the most intimidating silhouette with his smiley and laid-back demeanor, but the worldly knowledge he’s gained through constant traveling as well as his sheer technical skill with a crossbow makes him a genuine threat to anyone who might cross him.  Almost always, Akinosuke prefers to wear clothes made from his home village in Shuzo, even if it might be more convenient to wear garments from wherever he’s currently visiting.  Simply put, he’s incredibly picky when it comes to fabric textures, and the hand-made materials from back home are really the only thing he feels entirely relaxed in (though he will put up with anything for a day or two if necessary).  For similar sensory issue reasons (and also for genuine practical reasons), he never wears jewelry or any unnecessary ornamentation, and he tries not to be sentimental about anything that might get in the way of his work, which requires speed and stealth.

Akinosuke was born on the road to a wonderful woman named Yui; a well-known and respected traveler from Shuzo.  After giving birth, she settled down for a few years in a small island village on the border of Shuzo and Plato, but as soon as Aki was old enough to walk, the two set off once again to wander the globe.  Akinosuke’s childhood was very unique because of this nomadic lifestyle, but he adored every moment of it, and he truly thrived in the constant change of scenery and the new and interesting people he got to interact with.  By the time he was a teen, Aki’s mother decided it was her time to retire and settle down in their home village.  Akinosuke stayed with her for a while, but ultimately decided to continue traveling on his own for the first time.  At first, he didn’t really have any problems.  He was well-experienced and mature enough to handle most every difficult situation he came across, and this newfound freedom away from his mother actually allowed him to try out entirely new things for the first time, but at somewhere down the line, the Dreamweaver began to have nightmares, and the wondrous world he was familiar with started to turn on him, and traveling alone meant risking his life at every step.

Akinosuke decided to visit his home village to ask his mother for advice, and maybe take a short break while the dreamweaver’s nightmares worsened, however, not long before he arrived, the village had been violently attacked by nightmarish creatures from The Fog, and although the village guardian, Tamamizu was able to eventually defeat them, many lives were lost… including his mother.  After this, Akinosuke vowed to take revenge against the Dreamweaver, and he’s been in Plato searching for clues of their current whereabouts ever since.  He’s joined a bounty hunters guild (legally operated) to learn their techniques, and to have travel companions as he traverses this new dangerous environment, but his one and only target is the Dreamweaver, and he will do whatever he deems necessary to take them out.

Name Origin: Named after the main character in the Japanese folktale “The Dream of Akinosuke”.

Motifs: He usually visualizes people, including himself as bugs and insects in his own mind (though he’d never say that out loud, because he knows it sounds a little creepy), this includes Mantises (himself), Ants (most other people), Bees (his guildmates), Butterflies (his loved ones), and Spiders (the Dreamweaver).
