Profile
Supernatural Abilities:
Dream walking - Todd is able to physically enter and exit the dream lands at will. As well as pull the consciousness of other people into the dream lands with him. Leaving limp conked out bodies on the floor until Todd brings that person back. Any injuries sustained to a person's consciousness, or Todd in the dream lands also affects the physical body.
Illusions - Another trick up Todd's sleeve (or lack there of) is illusions! He's capable of making convincing illusions to create waking nightmares for people, or to blend in with the crowd when he goes to order his favourite drink from Starbucks. He can't quite focus on more than one illusion at a time. So he wouldn't be able to keep up a disguise while he's making someone think the spaghetti they're eating is actually a plate full of worms.
Special Eyes - Todd can see clearly in almost any condition, despite not having any physically apparent eyes to see with. These conditions include darkness, bright light, thick fog, and murky water.
Natural Abilities: Flight - Large leathery black wings carry Todd where he needs to go.
Extensive Eldritch Knowledge - He's been around the dream lands for a very long time, and has learned a lot about the eldritch horrors that dwell within it.
Multilingual - Todd's first language is R'lyeh, but he's also capable of speaking English, Canadian French, and Russian quite well.
Weaknesses:
Can take damage from normal weapons, (this also applies to weapons in the dream lands!)
If he's not fast enough to get out while someone is waking up from a dream, he could potentially get stuck in that dream until the person goes to sleep again.
Cats, he's allergic to them.
Tetris, he's really bad at it. He's never been told you fill the rows, not match the colours!
Personality: Todd is a troublemaker, who enjoys messing with people and working them up for his own amusement. His favourite thing to do is snatch up people and introduce them to some of the unspeakable entities hanging out in the dream lands and watching their brains turn to jelly as they try to fathom such beings. The ones that don't completely shut down right away, he'll send back to their bodies, and watch them take on their new role of raving lunatic. It's not impossible however to get him to stop his antics towards particular individuals. Deep down Todd is lonely. Friends are hard to come by when you're basically a boogeyman! Humanizing this night gaunt is a quick way to get him to stop what he's doing and maybe care a little about who he was just trying to spook.
History:
Todd isn't quite sure of how he came into the world, he just kind of started existing one day, he's not entirely sure if he was born, or hatched. All he knows is he used to be a tiny night gaunt, that had to learn how to use his abilities and maneuver around the strange twisted lands he lived in. It was a lot of trial and error, and watching other young night gaunts that weren't so lucky and making sure not to do what they did.
what could be considered his teens, was when he really got into checking out the dreams of strangers. He would find the glowy doorways and peek in, at first he was just there to watch, but when he discovered he could actually interact with said dreams, you bet your bottom he started messing around with people a lot!
One such excursion lost him his tail. See he used to have a long spiny tail with a prickly barb at the end. But during an exciting game of hide and seek with a tween who'd just watched a really scary movie before falling asleep. It got caught on a moving saw mill blade! It was then when Todd realized that he could actually get hurt during his adventures. Other night gaunts called him stubby for weeks after that!
Thankfully that name didn't stick, but what he hadn't anticipated was getting a name from a kid he was gonna scare! He took it one step further, crawling out of the dream world and then out of the child's closet to give them a real good fright. But the child didn't scream, instead they stared, fear still quite evident on their face, they opened their mouth and uttered "Todd" quietly. "I'm gon' name you Todd." said the tiny thing.
Todd has a name, though it is just as impossible to say, as it is to spell. But something fascinated him so much about the kid naming him. It was unlike any of his usual reactions. Rather than trying to spook the kid further, the night gaunt left without a word, and since then, whenever someone not of the dream lands ask him his name. He'll use the name Todd.
