It's not confirmed for certain what Colette is. A demon? A spirit? Colette prefers to just label herself as a "living doll". She's a wanderer who's only companions are the three small spirits who follow her around: Ojo, Bouche, and Pipistrello (Pipi for short). She doesn't show emotion very well, and can easily come off as stiff and unapproachable. The truth of the matter is that she's really just very shy and cautious around new people, as she's never quite sure who will react kindly to her. Once she gets to know someone well, she becomes somewhat clingy, wanting to hold hands or hide behind them if she's in a peculiar situation. Not easily flustered, but she is prone to be apologetic and overly polite. Emoting is not always the easiest for her, although she’s very honest with her words.

Story

Bloom

Around 100 years ago in the country side of France, an old woman lived by herself. Because of her reputation as a "witch", she was without any friends or companions. A very lonely existence, she decided that she wanted to have a daughter to raise and to care for. And so she set to sewing, combining whatever bits of material she could find to create a beautiful, life like doll. The "daughter" she had brought to life was given the name of Colette, and for several years they lived happily together. The woman was as kind of a mother as anyone could ask for, and taught Colette practical skills (sewing, gardening, preserving fruits) and those that were purely for fun (dancing, singing, and designing new outfits). Colette in exchange helped ease the woman's loneliness and assisted her around the house. It was a simple life, but a happy one nonetheless.

Wither

However, growing tensions and wariness among the people who were afraid of "the witch" eventually caught up with the two, and the house that they lived in was set aflame. The woman was able to save Colette and help her escape, but at the cost of her own life. Unable to stay at the risk of being destroyed as a "witch's familiar", Colette left to wander on her own. No longer indulging in the fun that the woman had taught her, she simply wandered to survive. Along the way, while staying at an abandoned house, she came across three scared spirits. Soon, these three spirits became her closest friends: Ojo, Bouche, and Pipistrello.

Regrowth

Even now, she wanders from place to place, picking up whatever odd jobs she can in order to pay for food for her friends, not particularly sure of what there is that she wants to do. She feels as if she must find some sort of purpose so that her mother’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain, and yet she feels as though she doesn’t deserve one. For now, she’ll do what she needs to to take care of the spirits.

Trivia

  • Ojo, Bouche and Pipistrello mean "eye", "mouth", and "bat" in Spanish, French, and Italian respectively. Of course, their names correspond with what they resemble.
  • Colette always carries a sewing kit with her in case she tears her outfit or herself, as can be seen with the stitches on her legs.
  • Very protective of her spirit friends. Calls herself their "mother" and treats them as her own children.
  • While the casual outfit is her favorite, she has several dresses and outfits with her, most that she has made by herself.
  • If she tries to smile consciously, it'll come off as awkward or creepy. However, she'll sometimes smile without thinking, and it's the only time that it looks right.
  • When she was created, her mother made sure to use magic to make her as close to a human as possible. This meant very realistic center of her body while her limbs got off a little less well by remaining made of fabric. Kind of like those dolls that have porcelain bodies but soft extremities. So sex and reproduction still work relatively the same way for her! (Although having children would be more difficult to actually happen/on her body for her than most)

Nobutaka Deguichi [ husband ]

When she came across Taka--bloody, wounded, and left for dead--Colette couldn't leave him there alone. Stitching up his wounds, she found herself intrigued to the mobster she had stumbled upon. She hadn't expected to find herself falling in love with him as well. Even though the new found feelings frightened her and his dangerous position worried her, Colette kept finding herself drawn to Taka. This time, she knew she wanted to be brave enough to stay with him.

Colette loves her son, but she's extremely worried for his well-being due to the dangerous nature of the mob. She feels as if she can't do much to really protect him, but she tries her best to take care of him where she can.

Like Colette, there's not much known about how these three spirits originated. As far as Colette can tell, they were house spirits of an old abandoned house that she once took shelter in for a while, and dwelled there long after it had fallen into ruin. While they were mistrustful of the doll at first, they quickly became endeared to her and refused to leave her side. They think of Colette as their mother just as much as she thinks of them as her children.
