About

Allie McLaughlin is a 19 year old Irish woman living in Dublin. She is a reserved and nerdy person, who never used to talk at school due to much ridicule. She loves almost everything 80’s and 90’s, and has a vast knowledge of vintage video games and obscure trivia from these decades. She is very fearful, which led to much teasing in her younger years and caused her to develop a very bitchy persona. Allie loves making sarcastic comments, and often gets in trouble for it. She is quite smart, and was in all of the gifted classes when she was younger. She also was able to skip a grade, and is in the same grade as the rest of them despite being a lot younger. However, she would never raise her hand in class because she was too shy, and her teachers were disappointed in her lack of participation, as they knew that she knew the material. She plays the bass, and was in a band with her best friend Felix in high school. The band hasn't technically disbanded, however they haven't practiced all together in a couple years.

Personality

Allie is a fairly salty individual. She has a very dry sense of humor, and usually cracks a lot of jokes (to varying degrees of success). She is a very genuine person, though, if you really get to know her. She thinks she hides it well, but she's a huge nerd, and has many, many posters (some fan-made, some official) of some of her favorite female characters. Allie gets scared easily, but hides it under her tough exterior. She'll watch horror movies with Felix, but she won't be able to stop her imagination later that night. She hasn't dated anyone before, and isn't really sure how to get out there. Felix made her a Tinder account after hearing her complaining about not having a girlfriend for the millionth time, but she's kinda scared to even touch it. Allie believes that her music defines a lot of her personality, and likes to share it with whoever will listen. She's a big fan of anything bass-heavy (think Primus) and harder rock.

Allie's favorite things in the world are her bass and Dungeons and Dragons. She loves these to death, and often brings them up as much as possible. Allie never goes anywhere without headphones, and will often purposefully put them in while others are talking to show her disinterest. She coasted through school without having to do anything for an A, but once she reached college she suddenly had to struggle to keep up. She's too proud to ask for help most of the time, but since Emil is in a few of her classes she can lean on him for help. Allie has pretty high self-esteem, since she figured out how to stop criticizing herself and embrace all the dumb things she does. Besides dogs, Allie also has a bad fear of heights. She is severely allergic to peanuts, and has to carry around an epi-pen wherever she goes (Emil carries one around for her as well).

Sexuality: Allie always hated the idea of getting married while growing up. She could never imagine herself with a husband, even though her mother would always wax poetic about her future wedding. It wasn't until much, much later in her life when she realized, "ah. girls." She still hasn't dated a girl, but she has hooked up with a couple women for... less permanent things.

Music: Allie's dad introduced her to the more out-there bands that she listens to. She always loved the sound of the bass, and when she was nine years old her dad bought her her first bass. While she currently has a better one, she loved that bass and used it for years. Her current bass is named Charlie.

Dogs: Allie has a deep fear of dogs after she was bitten by a stray dog while walking home from school. She has tried to get over her fear for years, but has failed every time. When people ask, she says that she is just severely allergic to avoid having to explain herself. Allie believes that her friends will hate her if she tells them she hates dogs.

Family: Allie isn't on very good terms with her mother, but she does love her father very much. Her mother refuses to accept the fact that her daughter is a lesbian, and still tries to convince her to just "settle down." As a result, she doesn't visit either of her parents very often. She finds it more worth her time to visit her friends instead.

Story Summary

Allison McLaughlin was born in Clonakilty, Ireland. When she was younger, her mother treated her quite coldly, leading Allie to resent her, and eventually completely distance herself from her. Allie didn’t know why her mother was so distant, although her father blamed her addiction to gambling, as well as many other... morally questionable interests. As a result, Allie was raised mainly by her father. She looked up to him, and gained much of the same interests that he had. He was really into science fiction and fantasy, so she grew to love those genres as well. She didn't have many friends in elementary school, but there were a couple people that she played with at recess. However, since she skipped a grade, she was much younger than the rest of her peers and had trouble interacting with the older kids. In 5th grade, she was attacked by a stray dog when she got too close to its food, and it slipped away before anyone could catch it. She still fears dogs, but won’t let many people know this since dog haters are “looked down upon.” Starting in middle school, she joined a tabletop RPG group that met after school. She loved it, and for the first time she actually felt like she was part of the group. Before high school, her parents moved to Dublin after her father got a new job. She was sad to leave the group behind, and protested leaving the town she'd grown up in. However, she had to leave.

When she started going to high school, she was incredibly scared that she wouldn't make any friends. However, one of the boys in her first class noticed the Star Trek keychain on her backpack, and complimented her on it. She ended up sitting with him and one of his other friends, a short, squeaky-voiced Asian boy. The boy from her class introduced himself as Emil, and his friend as Felix. During her freshman year, she became really good friends with Emil, especially after she found out his interest in Dungeons & Dragons. She also became surprisingly close friends with Felix after they both trusted each other enough to come out. A short while after this, Allie lived at Emil's house for six months after getting into a really bad fight with her mother over her sexuality and career plans. Since there were no more bedrooms, she slept in Felix's room. This is where they came up with their band, named "The G-Spot" because... well, they have the maturity of twelve year olds. Their tagline is "we're online, but you'll never find us." Allie likes saying this a lot. Emil's suicide attempt shocked her, as Emil had managed to completely hide his depression from both her and Carmen. Felix brought her to visit Emil in the hospital, after a little bit of time had passed as Emil didn't want to be completely overwhelmed. Allie didn't learn everything about Emil during these visits, but she learned... more than Emil probably wanted her to know. After the fact, she decided to casually sneak questions about his mental health into conversations. She thought that her "direct" approach would have been too odd, however, Emil didn't really seem to notice. He doesn't really open up to her, but she trusts Felix to help him.

After school, she moved to Dublin to be closer to her friends. She attends the same college as Emil, however she plans to move off-campus as soon as she can. They're roommates, which leads a lot of people at the college to make assumptions about their "relationship." Her and Emil don't share many classes since they're doing two different majors, but they still help each other with their studies. Allie isn't used to actually trying in school, so she's a bit overwhelmed by the workload. She hopes to become a therapist after finishing college, although she is also interested in performing arts. She still plays tabletop RPGs with her friends Felix, Emil, and Carmen almost every weekend, or whenever it's possible, due to the time difference.

Relationships

Felix Ōno

[ best friend ]
Allie would consider Felix to be her closest friend. They originally met because of Emil and a really weird game of Shadowrun, but they really became close in sophomore year after coming out to each other (because if Felix actually comes out to you, you know he trusts you a whole lot). Allie still enjoys hanging out with Felix when she can (outside of weekly D&D) because they can just be real with each other and it's really refreshing to her.

Emil Harper

[ friend/favorite DM ]
Allie never became super close to Emil during the first year or two, but during their third year they got much closer. They wouldn't necessarily consider each other best friends, but they definitely enjoy each other's company.

Carmen

[ friend ]
Allie isn't really sure if she had a crush on Carmen or if she just found her aesthetically pleasing, but either way Allie thinks that she's pretty hot. They were never really too close, though.
