Basic design and color scheme based on the Pokémon, Gyarados.

  • Light blue and white "hair" that is more fin-like in texture

  • Has a few scars from fights
  • Extremely tall in height, to the point where she towers over buildings

  • Flat chested and has only a slight figure (mostly because she's well muscled but also because she's a sea monster and doesn't need boobs XP)

(sea monster form design TBA)

Clothing Style

The sea monsters of Aaquanixie have no need for clothing, so during her time living on Aaquanixie, Regina didn't wear any. Her body is primarily covered with scales in her humanoid form. However, after moving to Emdrica she wears a simple top, usually a bikini top or tank tube of some kind, along with shorts (which obviously need to be specially ordered for her size). She doesn't particularly like wearing clothing, but she does so to work with the new society she lives in. The colors tend to match her color scheme, meaning what she wears is typically white or blue.

Personality

Regina is an aggressive and stern sea monster on land who doesn't take crap from anyone. She has a very dominant personality and can be rather stubborn and unyielding. She loved getting into vicious fights with other sea monsters to prove her strength, yet she's not terribly fond of interacting with strangers otherwise. While living on Aaquanixie, Maelstrom was a rather enigmatic and elusive creature who left no survivors to tell direct accounts of encountering her. She was feared by all kinds of the land and sea, and she was a scourge on the harpoon fishers that frequented her home region. She hated these fishers with a passion for their past hunts of her kind that nearly drove the sea monsters to extinction. Maelstrom was an aloof and unsocial creature that few knew much about.

Following her first encounter with her current mate, Maelstrom has mellowed out just enough so she doesn't kill others when he is around, although the two prefer to be alone together. She is rather aggressive with her mate, and the two are just as rough as they are affectionate with each other. He was the only one she really socialized with, and she slowly came out of her shell because of him. Although Maelstrom is still not one to cross, she's much more tolerant of others now and is much more reasonable.

Maelstrom always had a curiosity for the world above water, for despite her hatred of fishers she was more mild in her opinion toward any other surface dweller. It was this curiosity that eventually drove her to venturing out on land to see more of the Eternity. As of late she prefers being on land, mostly because she loves how tiny everything and everyone is compared to her and how imposing she can be on the usually-terrified land dwellers. Since moving to Emdrica and finding work with De Jack Zilvas, Maelstrom has become a relatively mellow bouncer that intimidates almost everyone out of causing trouble in the inner city. Despite most people being frightened of her, she's relatively well liked by the normal non-trouble makers since she protects the citizens from threats like the Enlightened. For certain people, such as the many regulars at Emdrica Fly, Maelstrom has developed an almost motherly demeanor around them and does what she can to keep the tiny folks safe. She's still rather aloof and doesn't let many people know her too personally, but she's capable of being talked to civilly without threat of her wrath.

  • Fire and ice breathing
  • Shapeshifting - sea monster
  • Giant in size and skilled in hand to hand combat

  • In her current living situation she rarely has any privacy since she's so huge
  • Extremely loud due to her size, which causes even more issues with having private conversations

Backstory

Regina doesn't talk extensively about her childhood on Aaquanixie, although from what she's mentioned she was forced to fend for herself at a relatively young age due to the excessive harpoon fishers that were driving the population of sea-serpent type sea monsters toward extinction. She likely lost her parents and/or kin to these hunters, and she did what she could to learn from the other remaining sea monsters (of any kind) how to fight and avoid the hunters. However, over the years it was clear the threat of the hunters wasn't going away, so Regina started teaching herself how to deal with them through her own observations. By her early teen years she had perfected her aim and reflexes in catching launched harpoons in motion, and as she got older she only got better and was capable of stopping even the largest and most deadly of their weapons.

To train herself to master such a technique, Regina would purposely go out of her way to find these ships, and eventually she was capable of taking down any hunting ship that dared to enter their territory. She learned many useful skills while figuring out the best way to approach them, how to counter their various weapons or snares, and how to do so with deadly speed and force. This along with her practicing her own fighting techniques ended up giving her an edge over other sea monsters in territorial disputes or just fights in general. Regina never went out of her way to fight with her own kind, but she found a lot of amusement in fighting other kinds of sea monsters and proving her dominance. Over the years she gained the reputation of being the most fearsome creature to roam the Aaquanixie seas, and none who faced her in combat survived to tell the tale. However during this time, she also became rather elusive and a bit of a recluse, and although she still kept an eye on her home region to ward off any persistent hunters, she didn't socialize much even with her own kind in her quest to show everyone that she should be feared.

At some point in her adult years, she encountered one particular opponent that was surprisingly her greatest challenge yet. Although she had fought plenty of larger and presumably stronger monsters before, no one gave her quite a fight like a unique red-scaled sea serpent named Rosso. The two fought for nearly a week straight before Regina narrowly came out as the victor. However, she opted not to finish him off if only to keep a worthy opponent out there for her to face again. A few months later, they encountered each other again, and they fought once more, although both sensed they were holding back a bit and the conflict stopped quickly. They ended up talking for a short while, she wondering about his unique scales and he wondering how she became Aaquanixie's most feared beast of the deep.

They encountered each other many other times afterwards until they eventually stopped greeting each other with battle. To her surprise, Regina noticed she was starting to warm up to Rosso, since she didn't usually talk to anyone this extensively and on a continued basis. At some point while wandering the waters where she frequently met Rosso, she noticed a large ship of skilled hunters had managed to incapacitate him with charged nets and a harpoon that left him gravely injured. Regina made quick work of the ship and hunters, and Rosso allowed her to take him back to his lair in order to tend to his wounds. It was after this that the two became mates.

After some time, Regina was starting to get bored of not having any worthy challenges to face anymore. There was a lull in hunters in the waters, and Regina had this odd idea to go onto the main land that she just couldn't get out of her head. As much as she hated the hunters, she was honestly rather curious about the main land and was entirely neutral about land-dwellers overall. Her curiosity eventually became so great she decided to just go and see what it was like. So off she went.

Although it's not entirely clear how, Regina somehow made her way to Emdrica while causing only minor mass hysteria and destruction. She was approached by De Jack Zilvas and asked if she needed some accommodations to make her visit more comfortable, considering nothing was properly sized for someone as giant as she was. Jack was also willing to teach her a bit more about the world (since most people were too intimidated to give her any answers or information) and help her adjust to the overall culture of the world on land. She ended up liking Emdrica enough to stay there long-term, and she's been working as somewhat of a bouncer for Emdrica Fly while living in a lake in the forest behind the building. Although she wonders how Rosso is doing and sometimes misses him, she's not interested in permanently returning to Aaquanixie anytime soon, and she's sure he can take care of himself anyway.

Trivia:

  • Regina's name was picked because it is kind of a play on the word "rage." Maelstrom comes from a Gyarados of that name from my Pokemon Pearl game. The Pokemon one came first, and Regina is a Gyarados gijinka, although I've tried to make her a little less Gyarados looking in her redesign while still maintaining the main distinctive details.
    • Her mate, Rosso, was also in my Pearl game, and I specifically hunted down a shiny male Magikarp in order to be her boyfriend. She deserves the best.
    • My in-game Maelstrom was the first time I actually attempted to train a Gyarados for real instead of just evolving it for the Pokedex entry. She was very much my baby girl and I did my best to train her up well. I even kept her healed during gym battles so she could defeat things on her own as a weak and flimsy Magikarp.
  • Old Charahub blurb: "The most infamous and vicious sea monster of Aaquanixie that for some reason lives in the middle of the metropolis of Emdrica."
  • Often called "the Gatekeeper" by the people of Emdrica.
  • Even though she loves scaring/terrifying people, she genuinely enjoys having normal conversations with people without anyone acknowledging she's a giant terrifying monster woman.
  • Absolutely despises cowards.
  • Her favorite color is red. I wonder whyyyyyyy
