Dex is a struggling university sophomore desperate for money after losing the scholarship that got him into school in the first place. He is a bit moody for his age and finds most things exasperating, consequentially his old friends have distanced themselves from him.

- Though he started school hoping to someday be a doctor, he changed his major to Philosophy in his 3rd semester.
- Exclusively prefers to be referred to by his nickname, though his older sister insists on calling him Dexter.
- His sister accuses him of wanting to be "mothered" by everyone he meets.

Previously they went to the same college, but Niyan dropped out before Dex to become a palm reader, which they are supposedly quite good at. Dex refuses to let them read his palms on the basis that he thinks it's a bunch of bullshit. Niyan is Dex's only friend from school that has stuck around through his irritation and moodiness.
