Summary

Distant, volatile and socially unbearable are all equally valid ways to describe Kinwell. Tolerant of few and friend to far fewer, the people nearest to Kinwell might be tempted to call him "hard to get to know" or "fundamentally broken but not dangerous" but to anyone who knows him even slightly less he is "terrifying" and "nightmarish" and "often just takes food out of people's hands and eats it in front of them because he knows he can get away with it."

Kinwell has little sense of consequence and an even smaller sense of his own place in the world. He knows he's scary, or at least he knows the go-to reaction from people tends to be fear, but other than that he doesn't really see himself as someone with a real cosmic impact.

D e t a i l s

Emotionally Distant  || Kinwell is nothing if not 'doesn't relate to people well.' He has a hard time empathizing, sympathizing, and just generally trying to relate to people who aren't willing to give him a colossal amount of leeway.

Grumpy  || Kinwell doesnt know a lot of things. Both due to a lack of education and a lack of memory space for most 'stuff' Kinwell doesnt really know shit, and when that gets thrown in his face in even the slightest ways (which is a multiple times daily occurrence) his only response is to be kind of a grouchy dick about it.

Protective  || If you get on Kinwell's good side, congratulations, you have a six-foot-five chunk of raw meat who will throw himself, claws, teeth and muscle into any single thing that threatens to cause you harm. Kinwell is picky about who he defends (children notwithstanding, as he would defend any child at any cost) but once you're on his list its hard to get off of it.

Volatile  || Kinwell bites. This isn't an exaggeration for funny comedic reasons, he actually bites. And it hurts! Though he's gotten better over time, Kinwell's first reaction to most unexpected or new situations is to hurt (or ideally kill) them as fast as possible. Avoid sneaking up on, teasing or yelling at him.

Curious  || A lack of education does not make Kinwell any less inquisitive. Often his questions go unanswered, as most routes to finding answers are closed to him. Even still, as he's gotten older he's taken a stronger interest in actually finding out why things do what they do, instead of holding onto countless preconceived notions that he came up with as a child and never ever questioned after that.

HISTORY

Kinwell was not raised so much as he was set loose, and with that freedom came a lifetime of mistakes he now lives in the middle of like a fucked up spider web of disaster. For both survival and a lack of anyone telling him not to, Kinwell ended up in a life of crime very early, and ultimately in prison at a very young age. As a man already riddled with trauma and no words to describe any of it, and no one to listen even if he could, imprisonment broke something deep within Kinwell. He turned very quickly to violence as a defence mechanism, to keep anyone at all away. This often led to worse consequences and longer isolations, leaving Kinwell very deeply scarred by the time he was released. He fell very quickly back into a life of crime, facilitated by the man who had helped to get him released.

It proved to be fairly easy to weaponize Kinwell. It quickly became a situation of point and shoot, but with a far more dedicated bullet. He became something of a small time legend among the criminal network, especially for other hit men, and was feared for his ferocity and apparent lack of self preservation in a fight. Despite the reputation and stories that followed each grizzly event, under the right supervision Kinwell was quite docile while not on the job. At least for Kinwell's handler and said handler's nephew, who all formed something of a bond with Kinwell.

It was only when there was a shift in power dynamic at work that helped Kinwell graduate from borderline-feral creature whose morality is purely dictated by chow mein, to someone who you could feasibly hold a conversation with. His then-handler-now-boss significantly loosened the reins keeping Kinwell in check, and a slightly more socialized Kinwell was allowed to live in his own apartment and buy his own chow mein for once.

He has friends now, kind of. He even has a boyfriend, which is cool. He has a phone and can either be seen loudly and badly using voice-to-text or sending long strings of emojis to the coworkers who he's grown closest to. He knows how to play videogames and gets way too into COD but that is better than shooting real people. Which he still does. A Lot.

Relationships

Castle || Best friend, lover, and one of the key reasons Kinwell knows how to act like a human

John || Boss, former handler, John is the only person who intimidates Kinwell.

Alice || John's nephew, small, must be protected. Friend who knows the most about video games

Grammar || Non-Boyfriend-Best-Friend, that sounds like a real thing. Grammar is the first person Kinwell calls when Anything happens.

James || A friend of Castle's, a coworker who likes spending time with him. Unheard of.

Noelle || It's really hard to put the complexity of Kinwell and Noelle's relationship into words, honestly.
