MEPHISTOPHELES MENELAUS

aren't morpho butterflies the best....?

Overview

Mephisto is a relatively younger Blueheart with the power of a Plasmarian Blueheart, an unusual case considering modern Bluehearts are no longer used for combat. Apparently, he had initially been some sort of project for one of the higher-ups to experiment with, using the purest mana available to humans.

A bit mysterious or odd at times, he rarely interacts with anyone that isn't the person he is bonded to. He dislikes showing any sort of affection while in public, and can be regarded as amicable but a bit distant. In private though, and only with his wielder, he is vastly different. It's said that Mephisto refuses to talk to anyone else but the person he's bonded to because he's the only person that Mephisto's ever known for a long time.

Allow me to fix this. No need to exert yourself over this, no, it's just a minor inconvenience. Ah- let me take care of that too. And this, and that, and...okay. I think you can assist me with this. Wait, no - did you mess something up again?

Demeanor

Quirks & habits

He has a tendency to add flair to his movements during attacks, making them seem all fancy and cool, when they could be performed in a blunter way and much more effectively. He sacrifices some practicality for beauty, but not enough so that his abilities are rendered half-useless. This can also be seen when he is serving people, although to a much lesser extent (because he doesn't want people commenting on his actions.)
He also likes to eat cucumbers. During movies or the summer, he can be found eating entire cucumbers as a snack. He finds them deliciously cool and refreshing, as well as a healthy snack. He once tried to convince his wielder to eat cucumbers with him like this, but it failed.

Communication skills

Mephisto's voice is naturally quiet, so he can often seem softspoken or bashful. He is netiher of those things, but he struggles to scream or speak louder than just a normal indoor voice.
He finds it unbelievably easy to talk to anyone when it comes to business, although he avoids talking about his personal life. Even so, he refuses to talk to anyone unless he is absolutely made to.
In his spare time, Mephisto likes to research synonyms of common words in order to make himself sound fancy and sophisticated, to match his appearance.

Showing affection

Mephisto heavily dislikes PDA of any kind. He does not like being given pats on the head, kisses on the cheeks, or even handholding in public. When alone, though, he enjoys all the actions mentioned above, and will actively participate in hugging, cuddling and showing other affectionate actions.
It's said that if he has to perform some sort of affection action in public, his movements become very stiff and robotic, and the action barely lasts for more than a few seconds.

Creation and the Pre-War Era

  • Mephistopheles, have you come to answer our call for peace? Not as a demonic messenger, but as a higher being that we can put our faith in?
  • Wake up, Mephistopeheles. You have a job in this world, break open from the cocoon and spread your wings.

Mephistopeheles originated as a deity in response to the potential war that was brewing between multiple factions. The unrest and tension between the Diurnal Foundation and the Tales of the Fortunate was a concern to the people, and so they raised their hands, clasped together, in the air, praying for a miracle to appear. They begged the gods for something to appease both factions' desire for power.

Indeed, he was made to be the miracle. He was supposed to be a protection charm in the form of a minor celestial being so that the people had something to believe in. For years before the War, he was the god, the supposed saviour, the guardian, the healer. He had a massive following, several shrines dedicated to him - truly, they wanted to believe in him, they wanted to be assured that he would make sure that the war would not happen.

His deity appearance - to the human eye - consisted of a swarm of morpho butterflies, all gathered around, forming some sort of humanoid shape. It represented the gathering of a group, unity and freedom. For a while, it was believed that if you saw a morpho butterfly perched close to you, Mephistopheles was watching you and protecting you and your loved ones from harm.

It's difficult to gauge whether he enjoyed the attention or not. Deities are difficult to understand as a concept by itself, let alone their inner workings and emotions. As a younger deity, however, it could've been vaguely understood that he tried, he tried to make sure that the people that worshipped him had enough to survive on, to make sure that they were safe and healthy. He tried to exercise his powers to grant a state of tranqulity to both factions...

To no success.

Fall From Grace and the War

  • You failed. You failed us all, Mephoistopheles. How can you call yourself a messenger of unity when you could barely tie a singular string of connection?
  • Humans are fickle beings. As soon as they believe their god has failed, they move on. To appease them, however, you must be punished. Your sacrifice will be the end of this War.

Even if he had been ambitious, there was a lot of pressure for him to succeed. And still being so young at the time, nowhere as wise as his peers, he succumbed to the cries of the people.

It was like acid to a butterfly's wings. The corrosiveness of the substance ate through whatever it could, working its way into his thoughts, the thoughts that were usually incorruptible by a deity's subjects. He tried to appease everyone at once, leading to everyone thinking that Mephistopheles was on their side, that they had the power of a deity that would assist them in their battle. They believed that they would become victorious, and as such, they fought in order to become the superior faction. This lead to the creation of Bluehearts, powerful humanoid weapons that were used as an advanced form of technology. They were made sometimes in the light of a god, as if to replicate the power of that god on a much lesser scale.

While technology would immensely advance during the War, Mephistopheles had been practically ruined. He had failed the one purpose that he was meant to serve, and so he was...useless. Instead of being seen as a deity, he was seen as a useless figure, resulting in things that were made for him to be destroyed, and he would quickly lose power and influence due to people turning away from him. The people that once prayed for his protection now prayed for his downfall. The deities, who were disturbed by the unrest that their subjects now had, used Mephistopheles as a tool to end the war - by making sure that the Diurnal Foundation (a faction who had the favour from the gods) was capable of capturing him.

The Post-War and Bluehearts

  • I am a Blueheart, I am Rhopalocera-08. I was created to serve humans, to defend them. I will not disobey them. Do I look like a deity? That must be a coincidence.
  • He has become the end of war, even if it hadn't ended in peace and instead in surrender by the other faction. In a way, he has achieved his purpose, even if our people do not know that.

Once he had been captured by the Diurnal Foundation, he was tortured, experimented on and reduced to little more than one of their own creations. He was forced into a porcelain humanoid suit, given the title of a Blueheart. He was used (given a different shell from the one he resides in now) as a superweapon by the Diurnal Foundaton, resulting in a victory that could've been seen from years away. Mephistopheles was much more powerful than their other Bluehearts, and struck fear into the hearts of their enemies. Once the war was over, to avoid detection of the deity inside the shell, he was made to forget his and was put to sleep.

He does not remember his past, and as such, no one remembers the existence of the deity known as Mephistopheles. There are some artifacts left from that time, yes, but they were buried or destroyed from his downfall.
The scientist made to watch over him performed little experiments on him here and there as he became weaker and weaker. He would only wake up a little more than two decades after the War, once the scientist had decided that he should be made to serve someone again - the only son of a family friend of his that he was quite fond of. Some of his influence remained when the son decided to call his new guardian the name of the now-forgotten deity...Mephistopheles Menelaus.

Mephistopheles, although he does not remember any of his former glory, enjoys his life now. He is content with making sure that his wielder is comforted, well-fed, clean and well-rested. He enjoys his master's presence more than anyone else. Strangely, he is the only one that he truly trusts, and he loves him as though he were some sort of god to him. Maybe it might be his past, but it does seem like a strange coincidence.

With any Blueheart, a pact is made between wielder and Blueheart, whether it be mechnical or by blood.
Mephisto's Bloodpact, when the weapons from his body are unsheathed, provides improved dextery, improved vision and more strength.

MANA RESTORATION: MORPHORIC

Passive ability / active skill

At all times, he can summon small, blue glowing butterflies that generate mana and absorb it from the environment. When dim, there isn't as much mana collected, but when glowing brightly, they're filled to the brim.

These butterflies can used for a variety of purposes. It can repair mana-based things, such as wounds on humans, or using it to power up his attacks.

However, it can also be used to cast minor spells outside his specialty, such as teleportation by turning into a swarm of butterflies, or using them to attach to people to absorb their mana directly or in some cases, even read their thoughts.

Weaponry skill: Fiery Rhopalocera

active skill

Difficulty
Mastery

This refers to Mephistopheles' main weapon, his double swords. His head feathers can be pulled out to reveal two swords, both of which have a seemingly glass blade.

When the word 'fire' is spoken by his wielder, these blades are seemingly set on fire with a blue-mint flame. In this form, the blades are infinitely expandable and can be twisted, turned and bent in any direction. Mephisto himself can control these blades, but it is mostly controlled by the wielder. These flames can easily cut through almost anything, burning anything it touches except for Mephisto and his wielder.

The one thing that is difficult to master about this skill is when to activate the fire properties of his weapons, how to control the direction of what the blade takes and how far the blade should go. The fiery properties drain a lot of Mephisto's mana, which causes the fire to slowly decrease in power, and if he runs out of Mana, he will fall into a deep coma.

Mephisto, in as little words as possible, loves him a lot. Maybe a little too much.
Servis is his wielder, so obviously some respect and trust must be in order. However, their relationship itself is deep and they share a strong bond and connection. Mephisto enjoys spending time with him, going on d- I mean outings with him, cooks him only his favourite foods and worries himself sick whenever Servis gets hurt (although his wielder will sometimes make him forget an injury ever happened).

He appreciates Servis for being the one to wake him up from his slumber and giving him a purpose in life, as well as allowing him to explore his own interests and personalities. He is perfectly content even if everyone in the world disappeared except for Servis.

Do you think they've explored each other's bod- ahem.

It's not that Mephisto hates Versace, really - it's just that he struggles to trust anyone that isn't Servis.

Although Mephisto enjoys Versace's fluffiness and enthusiasm, he does find them annoying sometimes, and he definitely does not show them as much care or affection as he does with Servis.

Mephisto only knows Charon because Servis knows him and they talk regularly. He sympathises with Charon being unable to socialise, but outide of that, he doesn't really know what to think of Charon.

Sometimes, they'll talk about small things such as the weather.
