Finch was born and raised in Sanlow and, like many of the merchants and criminals there, made his way safely in the world primarily because his family was close friends with some of the more dangerous crime lords in the area. They formed something of a symbiotic relationship, his older family members lying when bounty hunters came looking for criminals and in exchange receiving their support. It’s true that there is no honor among thieves, but on Sanlow he and many others there formed something of a very rough, pushy community. That aside, however, people tended to give Finch’s family a wide berth anyway, since they were always filled to the brim with barely contained psychic power.

Finch, in particular, often struggled with maintaining his immense psychic energy, eyes often glowing with the overflow of it. As a young man he discovered the most effective way to divert his power was as simple as chasing adrenaline. He took up a number of dangerous hobbies, varying from tampering with explosives, to pulling off high speed stunts, to picking fights with much larger Pokémon. He served as a bounty hunter for a time, ironically, moving away from his home town to chase after his latest dangerous pursuit. But a close brush with a particularly vicious foe gave him a distaste for Bounty Hunting work going forward. He needed to have his wounds extensively tended to after the fact, during which time he became particularly enamored of the doctor who saved him. Hoping to stay closer by him, and looking for work that was still dangerous (but perhaps not bounty hunting level dangerous), he found his way to the budding Team Lands End. They weren’t particularly impressive, but their relatively small team size meant he’d more likely be able to get away with his reckless shenanigans.
