Milo

⚝ PERSONALITY ⚝

Milo has a bad sense of humor and an even worse work-life balance, driven by his double-edged perfectionism that causes him to pour hours of work into stuff he knows he's good at, like the sciences, but avoid anything new that he doesn't have an immediate grasp of, like everything else (as well as anything he is good at that he made a minor mistake in). This isn't the only thing driving his workaholism, however- he also bases almost all of his self-worth on his job performance, and really his intellect in general. This tends to manifest itself in a general argumentative nature (though he truly doesn't even realize he's arguing half the time!), partly because he genuinely thinks it's fun but mainly because he's addicted to the feeling of being right. He's usually pretty good natured about it though, and will back off if someone points out that it's kind of annoying, but y'know, old habits die hard- it doesn't last more than a few days. Milo also tends to be pretty stubborn, meaning he tends to fight to the death over something he knows (or at least thinks he knows) is true- however, he does know objectively that he can't know everything, so when it comes to subjects he doesn't know much about, he'll happily let himself be corrected. His stubborness also likes to manifest itself in pretty strong grudges- he doesn't forgive, and he certainly doesn't forget, though he'll at least put on a smile and try to be amicable when necessary. Milo's a pretty curious person, too, which serves him well in the research aspects of his career, but has gotten him into trouble in the past when he's stuck his nose into other people's business.

Generally, he can certainly accidentally be an asshole, but he tries to be a good person when it doesn't get in the way of his job. Not that it's hard for him- it takes a lot to get him angry, and not many people are able to take him to his breaking point. He also has no common sense or basic social skills, but that's just a given with book-smart people.

• He has a speech impediment- all his s's are pronounced as sh's.
• He struggled with anorexia for a large part of his life. He's recovered since though, for the most part. On the topic of mental disorders, he also has depression, and is also on the spectrum.
• His father's legally dead- they talk through letters, sent through an underground network. Not that Milo will tell many people about that, of course, why would he?
• His cultural background's based on Dominican culture- not an exact match, of course, since it is still a fantasy world, but it's pretty similar at least.
• He named himself after a baseball player he had a massive crush on when he was 11. The crush has since faded, but the name's stuck.
• He's bilingual.
• I guess he could be considered mixed? His maternal grandmother is white, which would make him a quarter white, but I have no idea if grandparents' races are taken into account when it comes to determining whether or not someone's mixed.

⚝ BACKGROUND ⚝

Milo was born in another country south of Pentestotal's borders, and was unceremoniously uprooted from his life at the age of 3 upon the onset of a deadly pandemic, whereupon he and his mother were just barely able to cross into Pentestotal to live with distant family before the borders were closed entirely. That's where the fun ends, though. After that, his life wasn't super remarkable- sure, he met some juvenile delinquent and got roped into helping him hide from the cops before his mother stepped in, and he graduated high school at 13 and went on to become a tenured professor by his late 20s at his alma mater, but it's not really that big of a deal. Nor is the fact that he ended up almost dying a couple times from his run-in with anorexia, and how the only reason he recovered was because he rediscovered his past childhood friend who took him in as his sugar baby and paid for therapy and his transition. He's just here to click the keys of his typewriter in pursuit of a goal he's not even sure exists.

⚝ CURRENT SITUATION ⚝

Now everything's starting to fall apart, he needs a hobby, and his boyfriend completely refuses to go to couple's therapy. Maybe his mother was right. Maybe that Coquelicot kid is bad news.
