"Angel Game"--It's said to be a game where one could gain the ability to control powerful elements by having a magical, circle-shaped symbol on their left hand called the "Angel's Heart". However, it was discovered that the price you pay to play this game is by having a certain "misfortune"; and that alone became the reason why the game is frowned upon society--saying it's the source of these misfortunes or the sign of an upcoming war between mankind. One day, Kokoro found herself owning the rumored Angel's Heart...after facing her biggest loss...

Being very skilled and knowledgable in Angel Game, Sakane seems to have two known sides: a girl that often helps others to get better at the game, as well as someone who participates in them with a very competitive intention. Although, behind that facade, she holds a number of burdens that only she knows...
Personality
Realizing that she's nowhere near perfect: Sakane often thrives to improve herself regardless of her weaknesses, both in her family matters and in Angel Game. Sakane genuinely loves her family more than anything and wanted the best for them, even willing to sacrifice anything for the sake of lessening her family's burdens. In Angel Gaming, while she's seen as someone who's very skilled and strategic, she never hesitates to shares her knowledge with other Gamers, regardless if they're novices or experts. Sakane often seeks to help others who are in trouble--with no other intention than mere generosity--and she hardly ever ask for anything in return. Although, when taken seriously, she can be quite bossy or strict; especially when giving harsher advice and lessons.
However, one thing that Sakane often hides from everyone around her is her fragile self. She kept every negative thought alone--regardless of how much she's close to a person--to the point it leads her to constant self-deprecating and depressing thoughts, sometimes even dangerous ones. How Sakane takes Angel Game in a competitive manner shouldn't be underestimated, either. She can become very aggressive during matches and will not let her guard down easily. A part of her does care about victory or losses in Angel Gaming to a very personal level, that any kind of negative outcomes will take a huge toll on her mental emotions.

Backstory
Sakane doesn't like talking about her personal life, but one thing she can never hide is her family's situation--which is something that also upsets her when brought up by anyone. Although, the reason behind her self-depreciation is actually more than that single fact...
Sakane was one of the Angel Gamers who was born with a "Heart" from the start; and her signs of misfortunes would happen in a chain of events throughout her childhood: her mother who's struggling with low-income for many years, being forced to drop out of school due to financial issues, her lack of physical growth, and her father passing away when she turned 10. All of these combined made Sakane felt responsible, often wanting to compensate their deeds by finding every possible way that would repay her mother, both financially and mentally.
However, she often felt like her contributions aren't helping anyone and just causing more troubles for those who are dear to her. Sakane still couldn't find stable jobs and income due to her lack of education in addition to her child-like physical appearance, which she felt guilty of. Using her only field of expertise, Angel Game tournaments is currently her only way to gain monetary rewards that would at least help her family's financial issues, even if it's just a bit. Her mental well-being has also been decreasing ever since her father passed away--who was the last person she used to rely on.
At some point, Sakane also found out that she's actually an adopted child, as her actual parents already abandoned her a long time ago and she was adopted by her current family out of sympathy. This fact adds more to Sakane's self-loathing thoughts that her presence is nothing but a mere burden to her family, and no one has ever wanted her to exist in the first place.
Current story
Repeatedly feeling like giving up, Sakane often tried to continue her daily life while keeping a smile on her face. However, after meeting Kokoro and the others, Sakane realized that a part of her wants to improve on another thorny path: to become more honest with her feelings. At least this time, she wouldn't be alone, as she's slowly opening up and believing in her own friends.
Even if a part of her more competitive side that forgets the meaning of "fun" still lingers in herself, Sakane is still aiming to control her emotions better and become more self-appreciative. Being the coach and strategist among Kokoro's circle, her loneliness is fading away as she tries to get along with her new friends, who she knew that despite their different upbringing and story, all of them are sharing the same fate: facing through their harshest misfortunes together in order to achieve their desired goal.

Facts
- Her last name, "Mikano" means "three fields".
- "Sakane" uses the kanji for "hill; sound". It's also a play to the Japanese for fish, "sakana".
- When alone, Sakane tends to draw or doodle things to distract herself from any depressing thoughts. She also likes staying in the bathtub for hours.
- While not as prominent in terms of plot as Kureha or Rai, Sakane was considered a primary rival of Kokoro until she eventually became one of her companions.

Kokoro Hidamari
Friends, rivals
Sakane first met Kokoro as another novice that became one of her "apprentices". However, much to Sakane's suprise, Kokoro has vastly improved to the point that Sakane considered her as a threat to her winning streak, leading them to an aggressive rivalry. The rivalry didn't last long, as Kokoro have now became one of the person that changed her life and guide her to where she is now, in which Sakane is forever thankful of.
Kozue Higurashi

Sakane admires Kozue for her backstory, but also doesn't hesistate on being harsh on her during lessons and the likes. Kozue, Kagami and Sakane are often portrayed together for having a family-like dynamics.
Kagami Matsumoto
Friends
Sakane highly respects Kagami, and they both often exchange knowledge for having a strong field of expertise in Angel Gaming. However, much like Kozue, Sakane never holds back on scolding Kagami due to of her lack of confidence...
